I appreciate all the update video's as my doctor didn't give me any discharge instructions, no therapy was ordered, and i was sent back to work within 2 weeks. Your videos allowed me to know what to expect.

I just had surgery last week. First rib resection, scalene.. , cervical rib removal, and pec minor release all in one. I have to get all of that done on my left side next as well (September 2021). Right now my scars look nasty. Well they heal nicely? Where is your scar located and how does it look? You have a pic of it? Btw, way I had that ulnar nerve (elbow) surgery like u in 2018. The scar looks great just like yours.

It looks a little scary when it is starting to seal, but my scar healed very nice. I can’t post a picture on here, but it’s one small line in my axilla, fading to my skin color, and it’s not thick or raised at all. Make sure to follow instructions about not stretching it out too early, and yours should do the same!

@@thoracicoutletsyndromether8930 My scar is done above the collar bone. I assume it will nicely heal just as the scar under the arm? What you mean by not stretching it too early? Thank you for responding so quickly. It is not many of TOS survivors out here.

@@singingmanmd if they gave any restrictions as far as lifting, stretching, limitation of movement, just make sure to follow that. Some don’t, and it all depends on the location of the scar, so your advice may be different

How did you deal with scar tissue from forming? Did you massage the incision and along the surgery site? Did your pt take care of it? @Thoracic Outlet Syndrome: The Road to Recovery

I didn’t do anything special to prevent the scarring. On my ulnar surgery scar, PT had done some massaging to help with the sensitivity. I recently learned, though, that you can acupuncture the scar area which will minimize scar tissue! I’d recommend you ask a highly-skilled acupuncturist or your doctor before you decide to (especially since I haven’t done it myself), but it seems like a shot!

Hmm.. i understand the actual incision scar cant be healed differently, but as far as scar tissue inside- have you done anything to manage that? Any preventative stuff to help scar tissue forming from the scalenes or where the first rib is?

@@TruthBounty oh, now I understand! 😅 yes, PT pretty much addresses it. You would want to make sure you have range of motion, that your pulse does not stop when you bring the arm back, and strengthen your arm if you have weakness to it. They did have me do some arm cycling (like pushing the pedals of a bike with my hands) and some light weights to strengthen those areas. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Why did your back get weak? Its been bothering me that my right aide is worse and seems to be weaker, especially in the back and lower extremities. Is my body compensating? Also, did you have swallowing issues and teeth pain?

@@TruthBounty it may likely be compensating to avoid the pain which is why I have one side weaker. I’m currently doing chiropractic and acupuncture work to help re-balance so I can then strengthen. I did not have any teeth pain, and swallowing pain maybe immediately after surgery, but nothing that lingered. I mostly had issues with deep, diaphragmatic breathing. Is it possible you are clenching your teeth, causing teeth pain?
