Never even occurred to me to figure it out in standard tuning. When I played it years ago , I’d sit there cringing and hoping I wouldn’t bust a string while I tuned to open E. Hated to do that to my guitar, but it sounded pretty cool. Thanks SS!
Thank you very much for doing this in standard. There’s so many songs that I don’t even bother with because I don’t want to de tune. If someone took a bunch of songs with alternate tunings and taught them in standard they might get a lot of views. 🧐
Getting the hang of barring the at the 6th fret in the middle of 2nd lick was the most difficult part for me to get down, I wanted to learn it in standard tuning, great lesson. I find it much easier to play in the open E tuning but less convieniant
I've been learning guitar from an instructor but we haven't gotten to picking yet, and I'm a little impatient to dive in so I watched this video and had no problem starting to learn the licks! Also did not know about harmonics yet until I watched this. Thanks for this lesson, it's awesome.

I don't really do a lot of note for note stuff, as there are so many ways to interpret them, and there are already so many great players on TH-cam that do it. I tend to learn bits and pieces of a solo, and then add my own playing in between those. Plus, I try to avoid TH-cam jail for copyright stuff, although I have had my own issues there as well :-)

Nice job. Those harmonics are off tho, and here is how you fix them: hold your E chord, and with your pickingbhand's middle finger, tap the harmonics out on the 14th, then the 9th frets of the 4th and 5th strings.

its ok, but I just dig the song in open E it just adds a more open vibe. But this version is ok if your lazy and don't won't to tune your guitar between songs on a set. Open E is where the money is tho.
+van1976 - this sounds just as good but you can grab any guitar, play it, then move on to the next song without retuning or having to have a separate guitar just for that 1 song.

thats so much harder to pick the intro parts in standard tuning open E is much easier and i think sounds better too i never seen this in standard tuning ... cool tho i guess

Great lesson as always Steve. i attempted this many years ago (yeah i'm old lol ) in an open D tuning. It's nice learning it in standard tuning though ,which i didn't know could be done for this song.Thanks again. You rock! Peace
Robert Lepine You can do it in open D if you capo the 2nd fret. I appreciate this lesson, good info. I personally think it sounds fuller in an open E.

Almost exactly how I played it in grade 10. I didn't have the sheet music so it was by ear and in standard tuning.

It sounds so much better in open tuning though still beats retuning or carrying even more guitars!
Imo one of the greatest songs!! Your the best teaching, thank you so much! Do you have pink floyd comfortable numb solo?
I don't really do a lot of note for note stuff, as there are so many ways to interpret them, and there are already so many great players on TH-cam that do it.
I tend to learn bits and pieces of a solo, and then add my own playing in between those.
Plus, I try to avoid TH-cam jail for copyright stuff, although I have had my own issues there as well :-)

Nice job. Those harmonics are off tho, and here is how you fix them: hold your E chord, and with your pickingbhand's middle finger, tap the harmonics out on the 14th, then the 9th frets of the 4th and 5th strings.

its ok, but I just dig the song in open E it just adds a more open vibe. But this version is ok if your lazy and don't won't to tune your guitar between songs on a set. Open E is where the money is tho.
I agree! I love it in Open E...but not everyone wants (or knows how to) retune it, but I agree with you, sounds better in Open E for sure!

Okay in standard tuning but, it is in open "e" tuning ....sounds much better that way
J Wesson Sr I learnt it in open e by marty and I think that's how it orginally is played
+van1976 - this sounds just as good but you can grab any guitar, play it, then move on to the next song without retuning or having to have a separate guitar just for that 1 song.
I only have one guitar so retuning it just to play one song sucks.
