Hi Andy, enjoyed your tour of the railway and the reasoning behind some of the scenes which I think is great. I have subscribed so I can keep up with updates on the layout or stock movements. My sister in law moved back to NZ a few years ago after spending a short time back in the UK.

Greetings from the St Louis, Missouri, USA area. TH-cam suggested your channel to me today.
I love that so much on your layout has personal meaning to you.
What is the hobby scene like where you live? Are there train shows and model railroad clubs, supported by model train shops? Or are you a "lone wolf" modeler relying on the internet for your shopping and interaction with fellow hobbyists?

Hi, thanks for your kind comments. The hobby scene here in NZ is very small. There are only a handful of model shops here too, 10 or so. I think the nearest one to me about a bout a 7 hour round trip! There are a few local clubs, I am a member of one of them, but due to work, I don't get to go over to our club house very often. My supplier of choice was Hattons in the UK. We don't have eBay over here instead we have TradeMe which is just NZ buyers and sellers. Through buying and selling I have made quite a few hobby 'friends' and since starting this TH-cam channel, I have made quite a few more. Cheers, Andy

Hey Andy, those opening shots are great. Good to hear your story something similar happened to me with that early purchase of a train set all those years ago.

I was abke to walk a place by the sea by walking thru' 3 pubs, stopping in each of course without stepping into the street....

Hi Andy, looks like we have a few similar trains. I have been in Wellington a couple of times, I am originally from Glasgow but moved to Toronto many years ago.
In the 1960’s an old friend’s family moved to Wellington on the £10 deal.
I nearly moved there in the early 70’s I was a ship’s Draughtsman in the shipyards and we built the Arahanga for the NZ govt and could have gone on the maiden voyage gad I found a job.
It never happened and zi ended up in Toronto.
I am a big fan of LOR and have visited the Weta Cave and Hobbiton and met Sir Richard Taylor.
My friend who moved to Wellington had a job as a salesman with Agfa film and told me called on a young film maker called Peter Jackson.
You really have things packed in there and nice that you have four main tracks to run express trains. That is also great looking fiddle yard, so how big is the layout?
    Thanks for sharing this
    Cheers
    Charlie

Hi Charlie. Thanks for geting in touch. Your story is oddly connected to mine in a round about kind of way! I work for Kiwirail. In fact I work on MV Kaitaki, cruising Cook Strait everyday the same as Arahanga would have done! My grandparents were due to move to NZ, I think on the 10 pound deal, but for some reason that fell through. When we were looking to move from the UK, 20 or so years ago, Canada and NZ were the 2 options! NZ won! I have been to Weta Cave, but not Hobbiton. My wife and I have walked around a lot of the filming locations though. Anyway, back to trains! Yeah the layout has grown, and is due for another upgrade soon. The total running length is around 150 metres. There are 2 main lines, a small shuttle, 2 reverse loops an 18 track fiddle yard and a 3 track shelf layout above, (which I am yet to video as it is full of rolling stock to organise!). I am actually on Cook Strait as I type this, so I should get back to work! Cheers, Andy. Oh I liked and subbed your channel. ;)

Hi Andy, I just found you out after a shout-out by Danny at Ivor Junction. My grandson and I have really enjoyed this video, and we will be checking out somemore of them over the weekend when he's here to stay. My grandson enjoys model railways and films his for his Dylington Model Railway channel, we keep the comments off for his protection due to his age. If you ever come across any of his and want to comment, you can on the Christmas one, or you could do on here. Just mention the name of the video you're commenting on. Anyway, we've subscribed and look forward to seeing your future offering... Cheers James 🙂👍

@Shelvington_Railway Hi Andy, thank you for subscribing it is really appreciated. As you can see, we don't take ourselves too seriously, and anything goes. That being said, we do try to model to the best of our abilities. My grandson will soon be starting to build a 009 layout in the near future, and I'm sure he will be filming and posting updates on his channel as he goes. I have shared your videos with a few friends, so hopefully they will watch a few.We are looking forward to catching up with your videos over the coming weekend, ready to view your future videos as they arrive...Cheers James 🙂👍
