    Nice one. The old-school coloured sawdust for scatter. It still works.
    For soil I use, well, soil from the garden sifted very fine.Also, a great alternative for ballast is crushed walnut shells.
    They are available very cheaply and apparently are used for polishing metal. A bit of paint of whatever colour you need and voila! Cheers!

      Hi. I experiment with soil, but our soil at home looks fake when its on the layout! Good tip about the crushed walnut shells. I didn't know there was such a thing! I have just looked on the internet, and 1 KG of crushed walnut shells would cost me around $30 NZD. New Zealand is a great place to live, but it very expensive!! Cheers, Andy

      @@Shelvington_Railway Ooh! I got 900g for about half that. Enough to fill 5 of the Wooldland scenic bottles:)

      @@ausfoodgarden Thats NZ for you!! And to get it at $30 per kilo, I would have to buy 4KG. If I want just 900g that would cost me around $50. Like I said NZ is great but expensive!!!
