I was in first grade in 1975, and our school library was in the basement of the building. Our teacher would bring us down to the library, and the librarian would turn off the lights. She played “Who’s Got My Skinny Toe?”. Awesome time, great memories. A different world for kids back then.
I was 7 in 73 and had this record. Great memories listening to this record in the dark during my childhood. I don't think kids have experiences like that anymore, they all have smart phones.
Hey Dave D, I was 7 in 73 as well. Didn't have this record, but was wondering if you remembered watching The Star Lost, a TV show out in 74 about three people wandering around a giant spaceship? Or if you're from Philadelphia area, do you remember the Gene London show? Just wonderin'
@@hopelessstrlstfan181 I am in South Jersey, Philly was our channels. I remember Gene London. His Headless Horseman Halloween show was terrifying. I don't remember The Star Lost though. I'm going to have to look that up, see if it triggers any memories.
@@Jangocat , I don't remember that Headless Horseman Episode, but I remember a lot of spooky stuff from the Gene London show such as Quigley Mansion , the Abominable Snowman (how'd that Yeti get to the Philadelphia environs any way?), and something about a mysterious package sent from abroad. Did Gene L and producers just realize kids liked spooky things or maybe they were riding in the wake created by Dark Shadows? As an adult, I moved out of the Philly area & I worked in Salem MA as an Education Supervisor for a Historic House Museum. That gave me a chance to hold an actual 17th Century document signed by a Witchcraft trial Judge. I also worked in the actual house of one of the other Witchcraft Trial Judges. I miss those days in Salem MA because I never out grew my childhood love of Spooky things. Regarding the Star Lost, some people think of it as creepy although I doubt that was the intention. As you can tell by my TH-cam tag, I love the show despite its many flaws. It started out with the best intentions, but by the time the show aired, its creator ,Harlan Elison, had left in disgust. I believe it retains elements here and there of what Elison hope for. However, the project was mostly a disaster and it is rightly regarded as one of the worst Sci Fi shows ever produced. So bad, its good.
I was in the 4th grade at Heard Mixon Elementary Covington Georgia and I was in our little music room if I’m not mistaken and I came across this album, I gathered some friends, turned the lights off and we would listen until it was time to go home. OMG we had the best time ever. I miss those times. Great memories!!! Thank you so much for sharing with us. I often thought of this album.
I remember purchasing this record in 5th grade along w/ Alfred Hitchcock Presents Stories For Young People! From my scholastic newspaper!! Ty for the fantastic memories!!!!! LOVE IT!
I have this on vinyl in my collection. I bought it in maybe 2nd grade at the book fair. Played it over and over. This and another lp, Great Ghost Stories were always fun to listen to. 👻☠️🎃
Listened to this record a couple of times in elementary school waaaay back when for Halloween time or about it. Gave me the shivers big time and scary dreams. So naturally I liked it. Thanks for posting it so I can enjoy it again.
Oh my gosh, what a treat! I haven't heard Wait Until Martin Comes since my beloved grandma told it to me some 30+ years ago 🤗 Although her version of it was slightly different, and quite funny 😄
Thomas Swafford True. His is one of many great voices of old time radio I often heard on the CBS Radio Mystery Theater. I found the show some time after I got my first smartphone and got back in touch with TH-cam after we pulled the plug on the house computer.
I remember that story well. Who in their right mind would see a toe (whether big or small, fat or skinny!), tear it off of the foot of a dead person, take it home, and eat it? That's just gross, right there! By eating the toe, he incurred a curse upon himself that cost him his life! It's a great story about greed, and the consequences thereof.
It's in a ton of these story compilations for kids. It's probably a folk tale passed down throughout the years. "Dark, Dark, Dark" is an old english folk story and "The Skinny Toe" is basically a retelling of "The Golden Arm" and "The Monkey's Paw".
@@tpd2100 Definitely :). There's a reason these stories endure for so many years. These types of records have an atmosphere that just isn't available in more modern forms of entertainment.

Yeah, as a kid, no one wanted to go in a dark basement with creepy teachers
This is some good clean, innocent fun. What a time growing up in the 70s. Different world, today. It's a shame!!!! Thank you for posting
October 3rd, 2024, expresses thanks for this great, archival upload.

Smart phones, stupid kids

I had this record as a child in the late 70's. It was my favorite! I used to listen to it over and over again. Brings back such scary fun memories!
Love this. Thank you so much for uploading it. I had this record in elementary school back in the 1970s and listened to it over and over.
No problem. Glad you found it to revisit.

Had this record when I was a kid! Great memories! Thanks for the upload!
I had this record when I was about seven. I got it from a friend and listened to it a lot alone in my dark room. Scary fun! Such great memories.
you had a "dark room" at the age of 7?

Had the book as a kid so wonderful surprise to find the audio. Great memories and love the narration.

I was a big CBS Radio Mystery Theater fan for most of it's run. You're right, he was one of the great voices.
Fabulous voice....and narrated very well......
I remember playing this record when I was a young boy at the day care center I went to.It was the first of many records I would play.
I had this record! So cool to hear it again :):)
Thank you for this. Mine melted in storage! Thanks so much
As a kid I couldn’t sleep after listening. 😂

Ralph Bell should tell every ghost story
That sounds like E.G. Marshall...

Clever 🐒🐵🙈🙉🙊🐒🙈🙉🙊lol 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😘😘😘😘😘😘😘
does anyone know who the first and second story teller was ?
Does 11:50PM count? It's not quite midnight, but I'll take it.
Wait until Martin Comes is a retelling of a story from an Alfred Hitchcock LP of ghost stories called Johnny Takes a Dare (Wait until Charlie comes)
WHERE’S MY SKINNY TOE??
I remember that story well. Who in their right mind would see a toe (whether big or small, fat or skinny!), tear it off of the foot of a dead person, take it home, and eat it? It's the Golden Arm for the foot fetish folk.
excellent
Spooky stuff.😝
i want the guy in the beginning to read more ghost stories
anyone know the cassette it was an old story narration it was about a poltergiest green goo and it had creepy muci withen the narration ?
I think the scariest sound in the night is a fart
The first story was lifted from The Twilight Zone episode "The Grave," starring Lee Marvin.

It's still a good story. I missed out on this record when I was a kid. I enjoyed listening.
