    *State Of Origin highlights: NSW vs QLD*. Origin is I’m gonna say the biggest clash in Australian history and is a huge part of our culture, it consists of 3 games played throughout the year. A New South Wales (NSW) team made up of the best players in the National Rugby League (NRL) that started playing at clubs in the state of NSW and a Queensland (QLD) team made up of the best players in the National Rugby League (NRL) that started playing at clubs in the state of QLD. Highly recommend this as a video and would be interesting to see what your take on it would be

    Great reaction, Joel. I love all three codes of football played in Australia - Rugby Union, Rugby League and Australian Rules. As for the biggest difference between the two forms of rugby, basically Rugby Union is more in-your-face brute force whilst Rugby League is more speed and deception. I know the blokes in Union are bloody BIG and the "collisions" look bad, but the players don't often end up with serious injuries. Somehow the tackles in Rugby League and Aussie Rules are pound-for-pound much more brutal and the injuries more severe. Aussie rules and Rugby League players are on average much lighter and have much less fat and muscle on them than Rugby Union players, and they run faster. These two factors - leaner bodies and greater speed - result in greater chance of damage when two players collide. Feel free to disagree. One thing I am sure everyone will agree with is that all of them are tougher than gridiron players as all the hits are made WITHOUT padding (Sorry Joel, I had to throw that one in). Keep up the good work.

    • @listey
      @listey ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Are you kidding? Injuries from collisions in rugby are generally way more severe than those in AFL.

    • @optimusmaximus9646
      @optimusmaximus9646 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@listey @MGL Yes, I am willing to concede that Union has more injuries than AFL. I think the statistics show that there are 1.5 times more injuries in the former compared to the latter. In Union collisions may be more severe in terms of the energy that goes into them but big union players just tend to absorb it. In League collisions however, the momentum (mass times velocity) or rather the change in momentum, which is equal to force, is often greater which lead to more damage, especially when there is less control. But I could be wrong. It depends on what aspect of the game you are looking at. In League, the defensive see has to retreat 10 metres after each tackle, allowing the next charging ball carrier space to accelerate before contacting another player, whilst in Union the static force applied in scrums is very high, which can lead to neck and shoulder injuries. Both forms of rugby result in concussive injuries as the head is one part of the body that does not have any protection, unless one is wearing a soft helmet which some players do. On the whole, rugby collisions may be brutal but they don’t result in more injuries than other common sports.

    Rugby vs AFL is like army trench warfare vs air force jets dog fight. Rugby is a grind of constant pressure and explosions. Aussie rules is all motion and 360 degree maneuvering. Getting tackled or hit in Aussie rules is generally bad, in rugby getting hit and then laying off is an important tactic inside the game.

    Yes, there *are* a lot of rules in rugby, unlike AFL where v often there don't seem to be any, but here's the good news: you don't have to pick a favourite, because for the better part of 6 months of the year (when all three sports - yeah, there's another major ball-related code you haven't seen yet, and it isn't soccer/football which, while popular, is a distant enough 4th sport that it gets played in a hotter time of year) they are more or less scheduled that if you can't literally watch them all live, a replay isn't too far off for whatever one you missed. Which is probably why we don't take our politicians anywhere *near* as seriously as we take our sport...🤔

    You know the old saw, "Rugby is the ruffians sport played by gentlemen. Football is the gentlemen's sport played by ruffians". Respect for the ref, and for opposing players is important in rugby, which is why foul tackles are uncommon. Tackles are below the shoulder; in junior schools below the chest level. So serious injuries are far less common than in football. In three generations, from me to my grandsons (22 boys in all), all have or do play rugby. Not a single broken bone. Serious injuries have happened, but in football, equestrian sports, lacrosse, surfing, and skiing - never in rugby!

      @TaraSmithson sorry but you're wrong. A helmet doesn't stop brain trauma. It doesn't stop your brain from smashing into the side of your skull during a tackle. The above poster is correct, wearing a helmet is responsible for higher rates of brain trauma. The wearer will instinctively think they are protected so do less to mitigate impact, and the person tackling him thinks the same, they see the helmet and think it is protecting the head and will tackle harder because of it. It's a reverse cause and effect situation. People make the claim that NFL guys require a helmet and padding because they tackle so hard, the reality is they only tackle as hard as they do because they think the helmet and padding is going to protect them. The NFL has already admitted they have high levels of brain injury within their players. There was even a movie made about it, Concussion.

    I’m from WA and I’d say that AFL is a better sport (but we’re not really a rugby state).
    But to watch and comment on I’d say a sport that is solely Australian-Australia wide and that you don’t know the rules to, would be way more fun to watch 😅

    Hi Joel agree with others. Take a look at Rugby Leauge games rather than Union. They are true gladiators in the sporting arena.😎😎😎

    If you were to watch even a small part of a rugby match, you’re likely to fall into a coma due to extreme boredom. React to rugby League. Similar concept but much more exciting.

    Re: "was that against Australia?" Yes, yes it $!&# was....🤬
    And not a club game - that was an international against the Springboks, which is the affectionate name for Sourh Africa. Australia is similarly known as the Wallabies and, as you picked up earlier, New Zealand's annoyingly talented national team are known as the All Blacks for their team uniform, and many other things for their consistent mastery of the game... skillful bastards....

    Rugby is not very popular in Australia,Rugby league or NRL is popular a very different more brutal and rudimentary game. Rugby is big in Kiwi land AFL is big in the southern states and NRL big in NSW and QLD .To be fair you need to check out some Rugby league.

    You want to react to Rugby *League* not Rugby Union which this is. Rugby *Union* isn't popular in Australia but Rugby *League* is very popular.
    Till i collapse NRL big hits should be your next reaction. NRL is the Nation Rugby League competiton played in Australia. It's the equivalent to AFL while the stuff you are watching isn't.
