Indeed, she was a lovely lady and a superb driver. I'm not in any way shape or form any kind of expert regarding motor racing but I enjoyed the little that I've seen (please don't shoot me down -) on Top Gear, where Sabine was a guest... Driving a _van_ around this track, of all things !! I was sad to hear of her passing. Rest In Peace Sabine.😥💔

One word of warning if you go there as a tourist from overseas. You are not allowed to drive on the track with your rental car form Sixt, Avis etc.. These companies will block you worldwide if they get aware (and they likely will), that you "misuse" their cars + they will bill you the "extra wear". You can rent a car at the Ring to drive there but it won't come cheap ;)

There are bad news for the German drivers as well.
I talked in the past days with someone responsible from a big German car insurance company. They plan to exclude the tourist drives as well. Those became too costly. Not due to more insurance cases but more really expensive cars involved.

The thing that i think is missing for someone how don't know, this is open for public and everyone can go there with there own cars. So you can not only go there if you want YOU can also drive there yourself. Tho most rental car companys exclude this ring from there rental agreement. Tom Scott has a great video on it.

Its still fun, though. And i love it. Even if i have no chance to compete with all these porsches, heck, even the E36s are realy fast here. I just do my thing, let them by (wich can be very scary if you get passed at the end of the foxhole at 200+kmh) and just stay focused, engaged and safe.

  • @Satori-Automotive

My favorite track. Anyone, who wants to drive it, should start in a simulator and count the number of his crashes in the first 4 weeks of learning how to drive.
No matter how good u are in the simulator or even on the real track, something can always happen and u land in the sidewall.
Mischa Charoudin also crashed multiple times, and hes a expert on the track. Its defenitely the hardest but also most fun track in the world. It never gets boring.
And when u drive at night, its a totally different kind of challenge. Especially the blind corners where u really have to know where u have to go and how fast u can go.
The green hell is the perfect description, altough it also feels like automotive heaven.

The Nürburgring is open to the public to test you skills and braveness. You can buy a ticket and test you drivers capabilities. Any serious car manufacturer proves the capabilities of their cars on that track. It is the ultimative test for the undercarriage of the car they made. You, as a visitor, can even go on a ride with a professional race driver in a Porsche, Mercedes or BMW.

The thing many people tend to forget when they get to the Nordschleife is that there is ALWAYS someone faster than you. No matter what car you drive, if it's your first time there, be ready to be overtaken A LOT. You might have a La Ferrari or a Koeniggsegg Jesko or Bugatti Chiron - doesn't matter. You WILL be overtaken by a built Mark 1 VW Golf or an R34 Skyline. Any car with 200HP or more in the hands of a driver who knows the track will always be quicker than the fastest car in the hands of someone who enters the ring the for the first time.

Now check out the Mountain course used by the Isle of Man TT. A street course nearly 38 miles in length with 300 corners and elevation going from sea level to nearly 2000ft. The Nürburgring run off areas are very generous compared to the Mountain Course where instead of those you get stone walls. In 104 race meetings there were 270 fatalities and since 1935 there has only been one year (1982) during which nobody died.

    • @RustyDust101
      @RustyDust101 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yes, the Isle of Man TT is insane because they race with motorbikes not on an actual race track but on converted everyday roads. Similar to Monaco being everyday streets but used for racing. Only that the Isle of Man is a tiny island that is otherwise a sleepy reclused spot vs an ultra rich mini kingdom. The Nürburgring was designed as a racetrack and never as a normal road.

What's not mentioned is that the track is open most days to the public as a toll road..
No training, no safety briefing or equipment required no experience.
Just a car and a driving licence and a toll fee and off you go..

Keep in mind, the majority of the fatalities happened way in the past, before the 1980s. Nowadays its very rare that someone gets killed there, and if so, its nearly always a hobby driver who overestimated the abilities of his car and himself.
One big handicap on the Nürburgring was not mentioned: the weather. As its very hilly there and elevated, the weather can be extremely erratic. It can be nice and sunny in one place, and 3 mls on its raining or snowing. And then driving gets really difficult.
I recommend, when you come here dont try to drive there with a rental car as a total newbie. It can become very costly quicker than you imagine. As the guy said: its very difficult to look good there, but very easy to look like a fool. :)
If you really want to see the Ring, I suggest to use a good racing sim.

After surviving a "Adrenalin Renntaxi " ride during free pre race training day, we went there to have a relaxed Sunday at Brünnchen . We just wanted to have some fun wathcing the guys in their private cars destroying their cars. A few minutes after we were sitting, a guy with his bike impacted right in front of us. We decided to go home after several ambulances came... and finally also the Helicopter. Because of the Helicopter, we do assume that he was not dead, even if it kooled like this.
So this was no funny day, we left the Nordschleife with a sad and shocked feeling.

Go slowly! You had the ü in Nürburgring quite right, your ö in Köln, however, needs some practice. And for that purpose, here are the three words we use for the umlauts in the German spelling alphabet: Ärger, Öse, Übel. Try these often, and maybe do what I did when learning the French pronunciation, practice in front of a mirror. It really helps.

Dear More JPS, Nürburgring the most dangerous racing course in the world. This is today absolute nonsens. The old Nürburgring 24 kilometer track was at all times of racing the most demanding race track, this first of all by the length, second by the geographic condition in the hills of the Eifel and woods. This old course is since years only used for a limited type of racing and racing cars. Before this, racing was very dangerous by the type of cars and their design, especially in formular one and similar classes all the time and everywhere. A bonmot of the 60ties 70ties from race drivers: „I have all the time a black suite in my luggage for the next funeral“. Nearly each weekend ends with a fatal accident somewhere.
Today the old race track can be booked for a private trip from everybody with your own car. And for these „hobby riders“ is the track a challange and very often an overload which ends in the guarding rails. Very, very seldom such crashes ends with hurts or finaly fatal victims. The biggest load of risk have bike drivers, because on each crash their body is the crashzone. The car drivers wrinkled sheet metal somtimes so big that the car is a total loss, but big hurts or death drivers, NO.
