Joe is doing exactly what he should be doing. He's playing what Eddie wrote, but he's playing it as Joe, not an "Eddie clone." Sammy and Mikey are giving fans one more chance (maybe even the last chance) to hear these tunes live. Don't like it? Fine, stay at home. For a those of us that loved that era of Van Halen, this is a great chance to enjoy this music live again.
Actually, this is a pretty good comment. I went to the Satriani/Vai show. Having only seen these two online, Joe absolutely blew me away playing live. I was expecting Steve to be the one.
Having said that, you are right. People really need to see Joe in person.

One of the best live shows I’ve seen in a long time. Loved hearing this VH music live again. Agree 100% on Joe’s playing, honored the music but played in his own style. Would love to know if Wolfgang has checked out any of the clips of this tour.

I think Joe is really trying to come as close as possible out of respect....I think the shit is just that tough....Eddies tone is hard to replicate too
5150 might be the most underrated guitar riff ever. The beginning riff is what I call completely "self-contained". What I mean is, Eddie tells the whole story with it, even before the rest of the band comes in. And of course, when they do it sounds great. These guys are killing it, but the absolute perfect live version is of course the " Live- Without a Net" one. Really wish I could've seen these guys live, though

When a singer covers a song, they get props for “making it their own”. Why not for Joe? He honored Eddie’s style and made it fresh with his own vibe. I know Eddie loved it!
Out of all of the songs they played on this tour, this is one they absolutely NAILED.
Mozart wrote music and orchestras are performing it daily. Eddie wrote music, but there is only one band that can do justice to it: this one. One guitarist who can touch the heart and soul of Eddie’s work : Satch. We are blessed to have Satch. Hats off to the master for keeping the spirit of 5150 alive.

Not to be lost is Jason's drumming. He does an excellent job of emulating Alex's sound. All around A+++ effort from everyone in this band.

I never saw Eddie play in life; But I guess even though Joe did his thing, as far as tone coming out of his amps; HE GOT IT, 🥺I went to the Phoenix concert, it was insanely heat, I would have liked to record this song, but thanks, you did it for me, I cried when I heard these first chords, the energy and feelings they generated leaves me speechless.

Sammy is 100% right on this-- this song is a masterpiece. Inspired from the mind of the Universe itself, channeled through Sammy and Eddie, and it came out as a masterpiece of music.

Great tribute to VH, Joe did a fantastic job. However I never doubted. 😁 I saw the 5150 tour in 86, still stand as one of the best concerts I've been to during my course of years, and I've been to a BUNCH, too many to count. Still have the tickets to several..., back when you could buy a REAL ticket, instead of a piece of paper, or a barcode.
And you had to stand in line to buy a ticket. I bought all my best tickets that way. Not online now, like I can't even buy a ticket online because they sold out by the scalpers.

Really really appreicate you sharing this. So wanted to see this tour but it just didn't work out.
I am just listening to this live show now after Alex said that they wouldn't do the band justice...Uh...I think he is bitter and out of touch. This was fucking awesome and filled with energy! I actually prefer the Hagar era. I think its because there was a certain maturity of sound with Sam, and the VH brothers got to do what they loved, which was play more keys and other things. The old Dave stuff just gets old. You can only listen to those classics so many times. Its sort of like listening to Dont Stop Believing at every damn wedding party. It just gets stale. Great songs, just gets old. With Sammy stuff, it still sounds fresh to this day. At least for me. Its too bad Alex couldn't have done drums, and wolf guitar, but seems like the hate is deep. Probably from Sam's book my guess, so this is sort of like Alex's revenge..Since he seems the most immature out of all of them.

Last played in 1993 not 1987. Edit : they did it once in 1995.
Their doing the same thing as Pantera Phil Anselmo Singer and Rex Brown on Bass the only two original members since the Abbot brothers are gone. Touring in a Pantera celebration tour And Sammy Hager singer and Michael Anthony on Bass the only two actual members touring on a 5150 tour not as Van Halen but in celebration. Love it!!

Nonsensical comment you spewing here kid since Joe is not a jump all over the place kinda guitarist.🤦🏾♂️ Want proof look at his performances with his own music. The same way he moves when playing his own music is the same way he is moving when playing Van Halen's Music. That is Joe's style, part of his identity on stage. Why do you want a quitarist to copy Eddies moves and use it on stage as if it's own? That would be some serious obsessive psychotic sh*t.
That said as far as i am concern Satriani's performance on this song was awesome and just because a guitarist isn't running all over the place (which expends a lot of energy🤨)while playing guitar is not indicative that they are heavly concentrating(childish immature thought process as far as i concern). A lot of guitarist would tell you that they dont get all too crazy with movement on stage because they dont want to injure themselfs or band members or pull the cable out from their guitar if they are not using a wireless system. Additionally here is something to ponder: Eddies been playing his own songs for decades(massive amount of time to get comfortable).
