Tommy has helped so many people over the years that I would personally like to say thank you for sharing your life experiences and helping me with so many projects 😊
That is so AWESOME! Tommy is a bad man! He does it right every time. The man is an Encyclopedia of craftsmanship & you can tell he has a lot of pride & passion for the art. Everything he touches is built to last. Hats off to you sir. We love ya
Tommy has some crazy good skills. Out of square and of plumb no problem for Tommy. Always fun to watch him work on things. I learn something ever time.
Flawless execution, looks easy as butter. Key word - “looks”, because Tommy is a pro, it’s like watching Federer play tennis, looks easy while sitting on my couch watching him play, but …
That home is now worth $15k above market value due to having the artwork of Tom Silva. Now she has to keep it ultra clean because everyone is going to want to see it. Super nice closet.
Turned out wonderful. I can empathize with her as our home had no storage at all. We now have a lot more but need to build more. This has Inspired me on how to get more use from our hall closet. Thank you.
Did a similar project. The only tricky measurement was positioning the clothes pole to keep shirts and jackets from rubbing in the back wall and the sliding door.
All I did when I needed to hang one was grab a hanger, hold it up against the wall where I wanted the hook to hit, and sort of traced it like a kindergartener traces their hand and colors it to look like a turkey. 😆
1:50 - She said she wanted the drawers to be different sizes, but he made them the same. I wonder if that grinds her gears every day when she sees them.
Assuming this is New England, I would have done metal mesh for the drawers and a rubber insert on the floor. The boots are going to have snow, water, mud, etc. They need to breath and be able to be cleaned easily. The wood drawers will get ruined quickly.
This was great and so helpful and I just tried to copy the design but I noticed one thing they left out was how to finish the drawers on the bottom to cover the exposed drawer slides. When they first put the box in the closet the drawer slides were exposed, then at the end it has a great finished look. Any ideas? Thanks
I'd like to see the whole process on how they select certain people for their shows. Do people write in asking for help? how long does it take to be selected for the show? There's obviously a script written up and and it's obviously rehearsed. How long from start to finish? they'd have to come to the house and see the difficulty as well as if selected order all the parts for the job.
I bet a lot of you watch this and think: “well that looks easy! I could do that!” Trust me, you probably can. But it takes YEARS If not DECADES to be as good as Tommy made it look. He made it look easy. It’s not. It looks it, but it’s not. Also, he had one of the squarest closets I’ve ever seen. Kudos to whoever built and dry-lined that.
We have a saying in my trade: The skill is to hide the skill. I've hung wallpaper professionally for 35 years. I make it look easy, but I advise clients that its way easier to write the check than to try to do what I do. Tom SIlva is the man.
As long as there's space on the arbor nut, it should work. I have the DeWalt saw he's using and it works fine, but the dado insert plate is a little pricey so I just made my own.
I have been fighting this linen closet that is backed up to a fireplace. My bedding smells awful musty. I have tried everything. Finally. I moved the bedding and putting something else in that cabinet. I put Kilz in there and it worked great for a year, now the smell is back. I did put Damprid in it and it works! (there was water in them) Is there a suggestion you can give me to get rid of this permanently?
Tie your hair back when using power tools!!! Could not believe Tommy let her do that. Also like how these plywood boxes magically get a face frame somehow.
Looks great but there's one thing he didn't show or say that he did. He cut straps to cover the ugly plywood edge which is why it looks so good and clean
Yea. He basically uses the piece of paper and the square to create a smaller version of the space. He uses the square to transfer the unevenness of the wall to the paper. Technically you can use any width for any side, but he used that specific one. Then you put the paper over your piece of wood and use the same widths to transfer it to the wood
@@scottslotterbeck3796 dust extraction via vacuum. No dust. Really not necessary. Only tool that was used that didn’t have dust extraction was the jig saw. Little, to no airborne dust from a jig saw.
@@chrisburns5691: I saw the vacuum hose, but there's no such thing as a dustless sander. I don't see the point of sanding inside the home, especially without drop cloths or other dust protection. If it's your own home, go right ahead.
Tommy is a master, but one of my favorite things about him is how nice of a person he is and how patient he is
Tom Silva is a National Treasure!
Can’t get over how good he is . Wonderful job.
Scribe with a framing square was genius.
Yeah. He's hired!
Another Tommy groupie, I see. Welcome to the club.
You said it my friend!
Tommy has helped so many people over the years that I would personally like to say thank you for sharing your life experiences and helping me with so many projects 😊
How amazing to have such a lasting piece in your home made by a national treasure.
He makes it look so easy every time. What a job!!
Tommy is a gem. Homeowner was really involved and should be proud of the final product.
Tommy saying "drawer" is enough to make me support my local PBS...lol
"Saw" too lol
It's always fun to watch Tom continually master his craft.
Tom is a Master. At one time I thought Norm Abrams was the best. Not anymore, Tom is overall the top guy!
Tommy always makes it look easy and the homeowner actually was paying attention and good with power tools!
I spent 3 hours yesterday making a cardboard template to fit a wonky closet. That framing square scribing trick would have saved me so much time!
Yeah -- that was my big take away from this one.
That is so AWESOME! Tommy is a bad man! He does it right every time. The man is an Encyclopedia of craftsmanship & you can tell he has a lot of pride & passion for the art. Everything he touches is built to last. Hats off to you sir. We love ya

Clever using paper. Just kraft paper?
@@scottslotterbeck3796 yeah, another way of doing it, we never stop learning.
@@r2rosconcepts231 I would have used a compass or scribing tool, but using paper is clever. Much faster and much better fit.

Super nice closet.
holy moly that thing with drawing out the outline with the square. so clever.
That door opening detail would trip s many up. Just lot of experience and pro work
Pretty slick trick with the framing square if you don't have a scribe!

WOW TOMMY YOU DID IT ALL IN 13 MINUTES. THE CLOWN I HAD AT MY HOUSE TOOK 4HOURS...WHAT A RIPP
Is that a Dewalt job site saw? I didn’t think those could accept a dado stack. Would make my life easier!
Lol came here to say the same. Looks like I'm buying a dado set! Anyone know the blade?
Nice, i have a similar idea for a kitchen pantry so this vid helped lots.

Well Done Very Helpful.
Tommy and Norm are a couple of woodworking gurus. But there was something at the end of this clip that reminded me of that movie "Overboard".
HI TOH , nice transformation on this closet Tommy , I would never have thought she was a boxer until she told him ! 😀🛠
The gap between the drawers at 6:12 looks much wider than the gap at 13:06. Why?
@13:21 Tommy is getting a call lol
What a great project!, gives practice in a good many carpentry skills! 😊
What dado blade is that?
What material did he use to face frame the cubbies to hide the end grain of the plywood?
Can you do some videos on custom closets?
This is clean AF
I could watch Tommy cut box joints all day
LOOKS REALLY NICE

Fabulous. Thank you!
Tommy you impress me everytime ! That was an awesome project.
Wow! Love it!
Really nice job. Do you guys want a job in Newfoundland. Keep up the great work
This aint no DIY, this is a shop build in that customers house hahaha!
Never knew Tommy Silva used the Handyman's Secret Weapon at 3:29
Tommy the GOAT
I didnt know you could put a dato set into a contractors saw! where can you get a set like that and does it work on every dewalt saw?

I use one in a Ridgid contractor's saw.
That's why folks like the Dewalt.
My 10" rigid jobsite saw will take a dado set up.
Tommy is very impressive ,how he build the closet shelf.

My lord that was the koolest thing I’ve ever watched.
The earliest I’ve been to a this old house video was 7 years 😂
Hi Tommy,
We're you able to use a small Dado set on the Dewalt table saw. What model is the Dewalt please.
Look for the 10" contractor's table saw. I think it's about $600. Fine saw.
did they not show the face framing or did I miss it?
I think the home owner developed the technique and she is ready to build the next home's closet all by herself.
I’m really totally liked video channel 👍…
I love the show, but my "to do list" keeps growing every time my wife watches an episode like this.
Amazing project! Unfortunately my wife saw me watching this and now my upcoming saturday is booked 😂
Is he using a piece of pink insulation on saw horses for the track saw?
yup rigid foam board
Norm would be proud of that joinery Tommy.
Always something good to get out of each video.
I need a Tommy in my life! lol
What was the name of the plywood you used and how much does a sheet cost? Can't say I've ever seen something like that at any of my box stores tho.
Looks like a pre-finished birch plywood to me. Probably $100/sheet these days
I you y'all guys 😁😁😁😁💯
Looks great but there's one thing he didn't show or say that he did. He cut straps to cover the ugly plywood edge which is why it looks so good and clean
They did the drawers twice. You can clearly see they're different from when they first installed them and the end b-roll
May be they thought the gap between the original two drawers didn't look good. Nothing wrong with doing over.
@@MTMF.london nothing wrong with a do over. But why hide it. Seems disingenuous
6:40 and 13:04 nice work though replicating here with some help from made to order custom boxes from Lowes
Beautiful. Though I'd recommend a dust mask, especially when sanding.
No need with festool stuff, just turn on the vacuum.
Anybody understand the wide side / narrow side of the framing square trick? 🤔

Nice work passing on inspiration to the next generation. One thing to note is to use generic dyi tools that home owners buy.
I thought he was gonna head to the home center and get some closet fixtures. Next thing I know the tracksaw is out and he's cutting dados. Showoff. 😂
Good one
Ok tommy beautiful job i dont know some how as we age we getting BETER AND BETER haha
Ugh... Seeing her use that circular saw with her hair draping down gave me the willies.
