Johnny depp is master at doing weird characters
Nidheesh Kumar I think of Johnny Depp as a character actor disguised as a lead actor.
And Tim Burton is master at doing weird stories.
The amount of people NOT saying that the Inventor was the late, great Vincent Price is criminal.
yeah he was a master of horror himself, from Edgar Allan Poe movies like Masque of the Red Death, Fall of the House of Usher, the Last Man on Earth, and of course my childhood Disney villain voicing RATIGAN.
Even more criminal is not showing his finale moment when he tried giving Edward human hands made from foam plastic then suddenly, he just drops dead on the floor while the plastic hands gets destroyed by Edward trying to take it from him... Sooo heartbreaking.
The message Tim Burton was conveying here is that the real monsters are the ‘normal’ people in the suburbs and not the freakish outcasts.
Mr. Burton admits this was a very autobiographical tale for him. He himself has felt like a freak and an outcast. That is why his films are so distinctive and idiosyncratic.
He has a large body of work and I can’t really think of anything he’s done that I couldn’t recommend.

Honestly not a fan of his newer work. He’s the sort’ve director who, when you give him a massive budget, he loses all restraint. He goes way too overboard with the CGI these days.

I think its why the story appealed to me so much. Being the disabled "freak" of the school made me become a hermit who had anxiety about social intereaction for a long time.
Johnny Depp also felt like an outcast and cried after reading the script, that's why he really wanted to make this movie

Hollywood legend Vincent Price was so ill during the filming and still put in a beautiful performance. That voice is still so iconic.
When Vincent "The Inventor" Price dies in the movie, many of us who grew up big fans of the greatest horror film actor ever felt part of us die with him. (Burton also was a huge fan. Check out his short, “Vincent,” which is an homage.) This was Price’s final silver-screen movie before he died three years after it came out. As others noted, you should watch other Burton movies in this vein. He had his little cinematic universe and vibe, and this film epitomizes it, a mix of darkness and sweetness all tied up in a bow of hopeful melancholy. Others in this general realm include “Beetlejuice,” “Nightmare Before Christmas,” “Corpse Bride,” and “Frankenwienie.”
I think you cut out the iconic scene where Vincent Price showed Edward human hands made from plastic then all of a sudden he just dies on the floor in the flashback.. :( That was heartbreaking.
This is my favorite love story. I have always dreamt about finding a person to love the way Edward loves Kim. Ugh I just love love! 🥰

Edward Scissorhands is a fairy tale done in modern times so you're over-thinking some details like Why does he need to eat? Or will he live forever? It's basically an elaborate beautiful children's story about where snow comes from.
Such an underrated movie. People mock Depp for being repetitive in the Pirates movies but he does have many good movies.
IRL, Johnnie Depp and Winona Ryder Were Romantically involved. He Even had a Tattoo with "Winona Forever" on his Arm. After They Broke up, he had the Tattoo Altered to say "Wino Forever".

_Edward Scissorhands_ is a modern allegorical fairy tale, and as with all fairy tales it doesn't do to apply to it the logic and laws of the natural world.
Honestly, Edward Scissorhands is Tim Burton's best film. The combination of color and darkness, humor and drama, love and tragedy, it's so perfectly written, directed, and acted, it made stars out of everyone involved with it. Danny Elfman also absolutely nailed the score for this, the theme is so memorable and haunting.
It's very good. I don't know if it's his best though.

It's a fairy tale so you don't really have to worry about all the details to much.
I've loved this movie ever since I was a kid. Edward was such a sweet awkward character and I think at one point in our lives we all feel like Edward.
Tim Burton directed Johnny in another movie where he was a Barber, that you must watch durring scarry movie season.

The thing that bothers me most about this, is all the times someone says to Edward "Hey, I know someone who could help you with that..." Every time, getting a pitiously hopeful "Thank you." And EVERY TIME, failing to follow up on it.

Inventor is being played by a very famous old sci-fi and horror actor Vincent Price in one of his last movies. Winona Ryder plays the girl (before her troubles with the law.) Those women all love Tom Jones.
This soundtrack is pure enchantment. It's a Winter Holiday staple for me. Always feel a sense of wonder and magic with the music and falling snow.
I'd recommend Big Fish. It's Tim Burton and Ewan MacGregor. It's right up your alley.

It's my personal Tim Burton favorite - and, dare I say, his best?
Tim Burton has a unique way of making creepy movies where the main character is creepy but also at the same time is likable and you begin to care about them after losing his father Edward is basically a child being taken from his lonely attic into the Big Wide World, I'd be his friend but I'm not sure Id trust him in giving me a haircut.
Or trying to bully him just because he cannot use his hands for normal stuff like dressing up or picking stuff up from the floor.
Tim Burton has a wonderful body of work to explore. While the films can be a bit up and down (they can't all be winners after all) his vision and art direction are always extraordinary.
For October, _Beetlejuice_ (1988) would be an excellent choice. It is a supernatural comedy thriller, starring Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Katherine O'Hara, Jeffrey Jones, Winona Ryder, in her first major role, and Michael Keaton as the title character.

Most of the filming for this movie was done near where I was living in Florida at the time. I was 19 when this came out in theaters and it was the first film I went with a girl to see; her name was Deanna. I loved and still love this movie. I especially love the Ice Dance scene when Kim was dancing in the snow from Edward carving the ice. That scene was beautiful and so was the music. Another reason I loved seeing this in the theater was that this was the last film role for the legendary Vincent Price(The Inventor who made Edward) as he passed away shortly after this film was finished. Lot of memories and nostalgia for this movie.
10:38 The reason Edward has scissors was subtly revealed earlier. The Inventor already had a machine used for chopping vegetables. He modified that machine into Edward rather than building Edward from scratch.

It was weay too late for Kim telling the truth to make a difference. Too much had happened, too many accidents and damage. He didn't belong among those people... he was too good for them.

Less than one minute in and Duaffy's big, loving heart is already going out to Edward. ^ _ ^ Relatives told my mom to bring tissues to watch this movie when it came out, but both of us came out fine. We understood the message about the so-called normal, average suburban people being the real monsters and also couldn't quite get past Kim never telling the truth either. A charming story to be sure, just not the tearjerker some made it out to be.
fun fact: Tim Burton's First film was Narrated by Vincent Price. Vincent Price's Final Film, is this. a Tim Burton Film.

I grew up with this movie and for years I didn't know that was Johnny Depp. That goes to show what a great actor and chameleon he really is.

Definitely check out Diane in Lost Boys, an 80's horror classic.

I remember seeing a show about this on TV years ago, and one of the people talking about it said "If anyone other than Johnny Depp had played Edward Scissorhands he would have looked like a slasher movie villain" that has always amused me because this would have made for a good horror concept but I like that they went for a more of strange tragic almost fairytale like story for this character instead .
Ambrosia salad is either something you love or hate. Definitely a staple in my family though. Its dessert salad I believe is made with marshmellows, maraschino cherries, cottage cheese, pecans and cool whip.
Marshmellows and cottage cheese killed it for me….sounds about as appealing as pigs feet….also, diabetes.

Duaffy you're so sweet.. but sometimes, you just think too much.
The very fact that all this story is literally told to a little girl by her grandma indicates this is a fairy tale, not only for the little girl, but for us, viewers, too. The color palette and the music also support that idea.
And in fairy tales, you don't ask yourself how the Wolf can talk, or how a man can survive in the belly of a whale. It's just fairy tale magic/logic, and you accept it. Here it's the same for Edward being able to live without maintainance or energy supply.
And somehow... I want to say... just don't change ! We love you like you are !

Jake Toll Me too, and my first Johnny Depp movie, then "Nightmare On Elm Street", and then "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" (1998) which made me a fan of his though it took me a while to realize it was the was same actor in all three movies.
Mine was Pee Wee's Big Adventure. Tim Burton's first 6 films are all great.

This story is a combination of "Frankenstein" and "Pinocchio". Tim Burton's films are amazing. I enjoy all of them. This film is also the final movie performance of the late, great Vincent Price - The Master of the Macabre. He has done numerous horror films which are perfect to watch during the Halloween season. You should ask for recommendations. I like "House of Wax" and "The Last Man on Earth". Also, I highly recommend Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and/or "Sleepy Hollow" for the Halloween season. Another great reaction Duaffy. Keep 'em comin'! 🕷🎃💓
I think it's really more "Frankenstein" and "Beauty and the Beast", what with the castle on the hill, an angry mob, a jock who battles him and gets thrown out the window, etc. I guess there are some Pinocchio parallels as well.

The thing with the mother selling hard is something real salespeople will understand. All people are potential customers, you don't sell to people you don't pitch to, being consistent and persistent will pay off eventually, and ALWAYS be closing (ABC). She's actually knowledgeable about her product and can put it to use. Selling sucks but some people are really good at it.🤷

I love this movie. My favourite Tim Burton film. I think this movie was Tim Burton at his best, in being able to balance fantasy, with realism and emotion. And the soundtrack is absolutely beautiful.

Michael Jackson was supposedly approached or considered for the role of Edward.
JedHead77 He was also considered for the role of "The Goblin King" in the movie "Labyrinth" (1986) though I couldn't see him as that character.
Thanks to this movie I met the great Johnny Depp and since then he is one of my favorite actors. this is my second favorite movie of the actor (the first is "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory")

I would LOVE to be in an Edward Scissorhands sequel! If the sequel happened, I would play a character named Jennifer Peterson, whose being misunderstood and tortured by her neighbors in Suburbia because of her autism and Cerebral Palsy. But after she meets and falls in love with Edward, Jennifer finds her voice to fight for her acceptance and right to be understood by others.

The colorful suburbia despite being bright color and populated, its sterile and empty, everything is the same for conformity, while Edwards house while dark and foreboding is unique and individual...
Unfortunately, novelty wears off... and often leads to resentment, derision or fear. Its a good film, Tim Burtons early works are good before he went a bit woohoo, Sleepy Hollows another really good one of his.
In the U.S,. the product for painting nails is indeed 'polish.' I think in Britain they may call it 'varnish,' and I know I've heard somebody speaking English also call it 'lacquer.' (pronounced lack-er).
In my opinion the ending is great. However I do agree that they could of explain the police and the town about the situation because the town going against edward in a instant really bug me. Also, I think edward is kind of like frankenstein. Put together in different body parts and other artificial parts and being misunderstood by the people.

Watch Conan the Barbarian. It was written by Oliver Stone and it's a modern adaptation of Moby Dick. Most people sees Conan as a action movie only, and even if its a lot of action in it, it is actually a tragedy. I would like to see your analysis of the movie in the thoughts section.

An excellent Tim Burton movie is "Big Fish" (2003). I can't tell you more. It's a Tim Burton movie, but amazing acting and story. Some tissues may be necessary.

I find that ironic that, in preparation for the role, Johnny Depp studied Charlie Chaplin films because apparently Robert Downey Jr. (who would soon play Charlie in the film "Chaplin") was interesting in playing Edward. Seeing bits of "Chaplin," I think Robert would have been good too, but (with no disrespect to him) I'm glad we got Depp instead.

I have noticed 2 reactors that don't like Kim.It is so strange to me that they don't recognize how Jim was controlling her and she was scared of what would happen if she spoke up.

If you're interested in checking out more of his films, might I recommend "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure" (1985), and "Ed Wood" (1994)? They are two of my personal favorites and some of his more underrated movies, in my opinion. Both very funny. Oh, and if you want a REALLY good Halloween to watch this year also take a look at TIm Burton's "Sleepy Hollow" (1999).

So obsessed with the fact that Kim didn't tell the truth about what happened at Jim's house, but that wasn't her fault either, it was Jim's idea. Stop it, no one else but you cares about that, the important thing is that Kim loved Edward.
I know that many things in this movie don't make that much sense, but that's because they are symbolic, so don't think too much about it, just enjoy the movie for what it is, it's such a beautiful movie, it's like a fairy tale, a fable.
This is probably Tim Burton’s funniest film, it’s absolutely hilarious!!!! From the religious fanatic to the horny neighbor and clueless dad!!!!
And Anthony Michael Hall as the bully is brilliant!!! Almost unrecognizable here, so different from his character in “The Breakfast Club” and “Weird Science!”
You should also watch “Sleepy Hollow,” with Johnny Depp as well! Another Tim Burton Halloween 🎃 classic!!!
