Sloth's shout of "Hey you guys!" is a reference to _The Electric Company,_ a show on Public Television in the 1970s and early '80s that used sketches and songs to teach the basics of reading. Rita Moreno would shout those words at the start of every episode.

When my wife & I saw this movie, we never would have guessed that the kid, Brand (Josh Brolin) would grow up to be Cable in Deadpool 2 and Thanos.
Oh, "Phys Ed" means, physical education (also called gym class).
Anne Ramsey was considered to be the sweetest actor in Hollywood and the kids... Well, everyone... Loved her dearly. Her increasingly shocked reaction was very real about pulling all those jewels out of Feldmans' mouth as he really did have all that in there at once and the scene was done in one take.
Thank you, Duaffy for a fun share with us. I'm glad you enjoyed the movie as much as we do. Huge hugs from us here in Texas and I hope you and yours have a wonderful one!

Astoria to me is that one place id love to live, one day... or at least stay in for a while, or hell just visit. Always find those wet coastal alpine areas and towns like that very appealing (reminds me of a more extreme looking version of my own home town, coastal, partially wooded with big swings in weather)). But I doubt it looks much like it does in the movie these days, 40 years can change alot.

Seeing Corey Feldman reminds me of a couple other films you really oughtta react to: Stand by Me (1986) and The Lost Boys (1987).
Stand by Me is a coming-of-age film based on a novella by Stephen King. Along with Corey Feldman, it also stars Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Jerry O'Connell, and Kiefer Sutherland. Personally, Stand by Me is my favorite coming-of-age film, ever.
The Lost Boys is a supernatural comedy horror film. The Lost Boys was the first film in which Corey Feldman and Corey Haim starred alongside one another--they ended up becoming a duo called The Two Coreys, and starred in six more films and a reality show with each other before Haim died in 2010. The Lost Boys also starred Jason Patric, Kiefer Sutherland, and Jami Gertz, among others.

The DVD commentary for the Goonies is a definite must see if you enjoy the movie, extremely good.
They get pretty much every one of the kids plus the director together again on screen to watch the movie together. You also learn a few things about the movie you never knew existed such as there were killer gorillas filmed at one point along with alot of other booby traps well never get to see, and the famous deleted giant Octopus segment just before the Pirate Ship (which the kids mention at the end of the movie). Also in the part in the Fertellies basement as they escape the director finds out for the first time him and his editors missed a big audio goof where Sean Astin calls Josh Brolin by his real name and its still there in the movie to pick up if your paying attention.

This was my childhood staple... along with the 1985 masterpiece “Clue”. It was a fabulous year... I was also born that year so it must have a blessed year! Hahaha jk. But seriously you need to watch clue. It’s a fabulous movie. Quick witted and hilarious.

There is a spiritual sequel that you might like that is a Netflix 2021 exclusive film called "Finding ʻOhana", this time it's a girl that drags her friends on an adventure to find pirate gold, on Hawaii, with references to their culture. They parody "The Goonies" a bit, and even have the actor that played Data make a "slick shoes" reference, but he plays another character. It feels like the middle of the movie is a reboot of 'Goonies'., before it veers off and tells its own story.

When chunk says sloth smells like phys ed in the movie it means physical education or gym class here in America. So he is just saying he smells like body odor. I remember seeing this right before vacation in the movies then driving up the California coast into gold country and finding a old mine. Me and my brother and some kids we were camping with exploring that mine and thinking we were going to strike it rich....lol.

This was released by Steven Spielberg who also directed the Indiana Jones movies, and it was basically a Little Rascals version of Indiana Jones. The character of Data was played by the same actor that played Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

The facts you will need to qualify as a true Spanish Goonies fan (apologies if you mention this later, I´m still watching the reaction!):
    1. In the Spanish version, Mouth ("Bocazas") speaks Italian, and not Spanish, for obvious reasons.
    2. Chunk is called "Gordi".
    3. The one line anyone will recall is Sloth saying "Chocolaaaate".
    Y ya está!

Ah the Goonies, a literal vertical slice of my very own childhood in the 80's... minus the mobsters, real pirates and booty traps, booby traps thats what i said!
Me and the rest of the kids in our end of the street, everyone with bikes, the huge local golf coarse at the end of the road frequented by the rich and snooty people of the area and the expansive native bush park and forest surrounding it AND the local beach 5 minutes walk down the road with the abandoned coastal WW2 bunkers and tunnels dotting the cliffs. lol even just remembered there was the local tennis club not to far from the primary school just across the valley.
I miss being that kid... but ill always have this movie to remind me of those days, even if they werent quite as exciting (although we certainly got up to just as much mischief).

Phys Ed, also know as PE is the period in school where they either make the kids do exercises outside or in the Gym. What Chunk meant is that Sloth's breath smelled like a locker room. American locker rooms are bad enough but European locker rooms really reek. They are even worse in winter.

No, you can't ignite gasoline by shooting it. Probably. Handgun bullets are either lead or copper coated lead. Lead doesn't spark. Copper can, but it takes a lot more than iron or steel. Like, if you held a copper pipe on a belt sander, you might get some sparks. Shooting onto pavement won't do it. (There are steel bullets for piercing armor, but these are rifle bullets, which have a smaller cross section and higher velocity. They wouldn't be much good in a handgun, and it's unlikely the Fratelli's would have had them anyway.)
But... gunpowder doesn't burn all at once. Pistol powered burns fast, but the muzzle flash from guns firing at night is the powder that is still burning at it leaves the barrel. From that distance, it's possible that some of the still burning powder would have reached the gasoline.
But... gasoline isn't actually flammable. The vapor above it is. Gasoline has a very low flashpoint, so an ignitable vapor is nearly always present in a confined area. The hot sparks would have had to linger in the vapor long enough to ignite it, and that's probably not going to happen. They tried to ignite a trail of gasoline with a lit cigarette on Mythbusters and couldn't do it. If a cigarette can't do it, I don't think muzzle flash will either.

So happy to see you reacting to this, Duaffy, and so not to see you enjoying it so much! May I ask, just how good was Clark/Mouth's Spanish? 😁
With the possible exception of Stand By Me, I don't think there's ever been another movie that's depicted kids so authentically! They're noisy, they're cheeky, they're naughty, they swear, they bicker and tease and they also have enormous hearts and accept each other for who they are! I love The Goonies for showing just how much fun the world was when we were kids, even if things might have also been dark... and I love it for the sheer nostalgia of the 1980s, when movies were at their peak!

"Monster Squad" was another 80's sleeper hit that had a group of similar kids like the Goonies that took on Dracula and the other Monsters from Universal Studio's Dark Universe. It was made on a very small budget with a lot of heart and the kids saved the day.

In the 70s and early 80s, carrying a pocket comb was a necessity. We did comb our hair throughout the day. I had to use a pick instead of a comb due to Jew-fro, but it was the same basic idea. I think hair combing was big in the 50s and early 60s too.

Duaffy, i'm glad you liked it, it was a big movie when it came out, you didn't show the end credits? when the song , (the Goonies are) Good Enough by Cyndi Lauper, it was a great 1980s song and her music video had sets from the movie and Sushi chefs? and Pro Wrestlers in it. i liked it when Mouth stuck his tongue throught the painting where the mouth was on the woman in it. and i liked the opening music when the car chase was happening and when Chunk splattered his milkshake on the window of the arcade.

You have seem most of this cast. The older brother is Josh Brolin aka Thanos (his stepmotheris Barbra Striesand), the younger is Sean Astin aka Samwise Gamghee. (Sp). The bad guys were Robert Davi aka Agent Johnson from Die Hard, and Joe Pantoliano aka Cypher from The Matrix. Data was the kid in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Mouth is Corey Feldman of tons of films including Stand By Me and Lost Boys.

Corey Feldman, playing 'Mouth'. What ever you may think of him these days there is no shadow of a doubt he was one of the best kid actors. He is acting rings around everyone with minimal effort. Even Josh Brolin, who would eventually go one to be a good actor. Corey was that good when he was 10... Just compare his acting to the kids in Harry Potter. He's even out acting them lol.

Hi, Duaffy! I know I'm watching this reaction over a year and a half after the fact, but I just had to. It's one of my favourite 80s flicks, and your laughter is a delight to listen to.
In the movie, it does seem that most of Willy's treasure simply sails off, and the kids miss out on it. However, the novelization of this film provides a more detailed epilogue, and makes the happy ending so much happier. As you said, the kids had plenty of money from the gems in Mikey's marble bag to pay off their debts. (A wiki page estimates the minimum value of just one jewel at $50,000.) But in the novel, the pirate ship is eventually towed to shore, at which point marine salvage laws take effect, and --the entire ship and all its contents-- become the property of Mikey Walsh! With his parents, he uses that wealth to turn Astoria into the best small town in America.
I haven't read that novel myself, but just reading about it on TV Tropes is enough to make me 😁
