Here’s our review of Snowrunner - I remember reviewing this original game back when we were starting out (here if you want a laugh th-cam.com/video/TlX3M2GV28g/w-d-xo.html). What do you make of this one? I guarantee it’s way more addictive than you’d think! Mark
I may be one of those oddballs but pop in never really is something that hurts a title for me as long as I am enjoying it. I have dealt with that sort of thing on basically every console Ive ever played. I feel they did a great job with the draw distance and as long as the overall game play is good then this port gets a win in my book.
Have this game on the PS4 (bought it literally days before it was announced on the Switch... D'oh!), and it really is fantastic, a unique and compelling experience with lots to do, fascinating and tense moment-to-moment gameplay. Luckily pop-in shouldn't hinder the gameplay too much given how slow all the trucks are, might even be worth a double-dip to get it portably, can't think of many driving games that would be better for a long-haul flight now that things are opening up again!
You can enlarge the text by simply touching the screen in handheld mode. A nice magnifying glass effect pops up. This is explained in the tutorial somewhere.
by the way you can tab the screen to zoom in to a section of the screen to make things bigger so you can read those small text your talking. it was one of the first thing they mention when you load the game.
Part of my actual job is actually driving some of the biggest stuff on the road through snowy, muddy, and rough places. One of loads you apparently have to move in this game is a coil tubing unit, which I bust around all the time. I don’t know why I would want to game what I actually do for a living, but here I am
LoL I drive for a living and it baffles my wife to see me at home on my SIM rig when I finish work! How do find the game compares in realism to your real life experience?
I’m amazed how well this runs and plays on the Switch. I already had this for the PS4 and couldn’t resist getting it for the switch as well. No regrets. Playing Snowrunner in handheld mode is a dream come true.
It's great too see other people discovering this great game. Had it since day 1 on xbox and absolutely loving it still. Wish I had a switch so I could play it on that 🤣
Hey, if you are having trouble reading the screen in Portable mode, tap on the screen, it makes a magnifying glass which zooms in on what ever you tapped on.
Thank you guys so much for making sure to include handheld information! This helps Lite owners like myself make easier decisions when it comes to purchasing games!
My cell phone screen is almost exactly the same size as a switch lite screen so I really appreciate the sections marked handheld footage. Gives me a great idea of what it will actually look like if I'm watching your video on my phone.
@@atomsmasher703 Ok, it's youre theory.. Low resolution and pop-in bush doesn't look nice for me.. One reason to buy it, is playing on the go. But shit grafic and hight Price.. No thanks🙈
"For the switch" - agree, but that says it all. There is basically no graphically complex game on Switch that would look "semi-decent". Maybe Grid, but that that's a... 7 years old game? Everything else, from Doom to Ori took a serious hit.
One of my best friends and practically brother in law (him and my sister were pretty much married without being married if that makes since) just passed away. He loved the game on Xbox, I’ve never played these type of games but I’m going to try it out on switch. Thank you for this great review
And here I thought I could relax. Now I have another game to add to the collection. Switch is overtaking my PS3 as the most used system and with the largest collection of games.
So happy this is now on Switch. I’ve played a ton of hours of it on Xbox and PC. As you noted in the review, the only real negative so far (I’m playing on Switch Lite) is the oh so tiny text. But as I’ve played before, the only trouble I’ve had is from the Nintendo reversed button mapping thing. Off to lose many more hours to this great game. 😃
Most of the comments are along the lines of "I would never normally consider this game, but it looks good!" I had this experience and thought with the first one. So I saw the new maps and the more in depth customization and said "sold!"
I literally was crossing my fingers, talking to my wife, saying that I hope that you guys do a review on this one! Thank you, Mark. I am slightly concerned with the font size, but I think I’m gonna get it anyway and hope they patch it!
I was literally just looking at this game but didn’t want to buy not knowing gameplay etc, sooo thank you for the awesome review! I’m going to try it out myself!!!
I've said it before, but I love you guys. Best review site on the planet. Also PLEASE MAKE A PODCAST. I only got ign garbage for podcasts, can't find any that aren't tainted with san fran ideologies. You guys rock. Also I have been on the fence with this game until watching this video, and it's on sale on eshop right now. Got it for 28 bucks. Going to play it between shining diamond and arceus breaks. Keep up the great work!
For anyone new to Snowrunner I highly recommend buying the Navistar 5000 MV for $1.99. It is great all around in the different terrain. Especially the first map.
Brilliant review! Bought the game straight after watching your review, loving it! I do have the engine sound, looping in game though, and have also heard an ambient loop too, I hope the developers can fix these small glitches.
I've been on a driving simulator binge lately. I don't know why. Farming Simulator, Bus Simulator, American Truck Simulator have been what I've been glued to. They're boring, relaxing, and I keep coming back for more. I didn't know the Switch was getting this one. And it's at a fair price!
This has become my favorite switch channel. The specific information about handheld performance and following up on game updates with extra videos is just amazing detail! Please keep it up 👍
If I liked the version of Mud Runner for Switch, I will certainly like this one too and maybe more. It seems to me that in this version there is a lot more to do than hauling simple logs in the sawmills across the map, and it was already fun that way, at least for me.
If you’re struggling with text in handheld mode, you can tap the screen to bring up a magnifying glass, then pinch to zoom in/out. Not a perfect solution, but it’s there if you’re having difficulties.
Very nice review. How have they solved the lack of analogue triggers for throttle. Do you have to tap the digital trigger all the time, as in Trails rising or are you allowed to set it up to use throttle on one of the sticks, just as in said comparison game?
I prefer the international loadstar. Put it in high to keep your speed and momentum and it just powers through the mud and snow and is a reliable scout on the harder maps like Imandra and Amur. I play on the series X so not sure if the switch version comes with those maps?
Getting this tomorrow if I can find another 20 bucks. Not just for me, but to play with my dad, who LOVES this sort of stuff. He's a hard-working mechanic who loves the show Ice Road Truckers, and I love sandbox games with even the lightest of RPG elements, so I thought we'd both have a blast. It feels like a perfect opportunity to show him how cool I think he is. Love ya, pops.
Glad you did a review for this, it had me intrigued and I feel I'd enjoy the slow pace progression when I want to take a break from the usual fast paced action titles. That file size, though...
