Just watched this movie. I'm a 90s born person but I like rishikesh Mukherjee and satyajeet ray film even in 2024 I feel the same while watching this movie. We have found two great movies recently 12th fail and laapata ladies.
Laapataa Ladies, a feel good satire, set in the late 90's rural North India, drives home the message assertively and gently at the same time. Nuanced performances from 'real' actors (casting was spot on), straight forward but compelling storytelling, subtle humour, which makes you smile while it whiplashes the irony of life and social taboos on women. Laapataa Ladies is a well written script. The bride with brains and education is misplaced into a family of illiterate people, with silent 'Jaagte raho' happening and the bride with traditional upbringing gets lessons of life at the house of an independent woman. The film makes poignant speeches about old traditions of brides, such as not taking husband's names, not getting an education, not making careers, and covering the face with a veil. 'The veil' is what causes all this fiasco, and it's a metaphorical take on the issue. Iconic scene: Man searching for his wife shows a picture from his wedding, with the bride's face covered with a veil. Other man says, "Isme toh chehra chupa diye, chehra chupana matlab identity churana " The next moment, that man's wife comes out of the house, her face covered with a hijab. There are many such thought provoking moments in the movie, which will linger in your mind after the movie is over, in a good way. Movies of this genre are rare to come nowadays and I recommend this movie as a "Must Watch"!
Looks its basically marrriage between teenagers age around 16/17 years which used to happen in india in early 90 it is on wan but still prevelent among india
