Harley was a friend of my grandparents and I'd see him every once in a while. I remember one time he was helping me with some homework and when my grandpa walked into the room he started laughing and said "what are you telling him"? Harley started laughing too and told me to erase whatever he told me to write down. As a small kid (5-10) Harley always made me feel like a tough guy. He'd tell me to twist his arm and he'd do a summersault or fall down. I didn't realize he was a legit legend until I was in my twenties and it makes me wish I could remember more about the time I spent around him. I don't know why he took a liking to me but he sure made me feel good about myself and we'd have a good time when he was around. RIP Legend
The business would be better if we had more Harley Races today. For wrestlers who complain about their schedule today, Try being Harley Race. Wrestling 300+ days as the NWA Champ, having to wrestle 2 times a day, wrestle a different match for different cities every night, carry an entire company on your back and travel from Atlanta to St. Louis to Tokyo. They wouldn’t survive it.
My husband & I had a portrait studio in Eldon, Mo. When Harley moved his wrestling school there ( WLW), He wanted us to photograph his wrestlers. So we did! We went to so many of the events...got to know him & BJ. They were fun, & kind, and so many memorable moments were made with them. Then when we moved away from Eldon we sort of lost touch. A lot of years passed...and I heard when BJ passed. But I just now learned that Harley passed. Just so sorry that time separates people. He was a soft spoken man...but you just knew he had the command of respect. Yet he was a gentle giant... I’ll miss him. Love you Harley Race!
Harley Race. That name says it all. He didnt ever need a nickname, or an introduction. He is as great a professional wrestler as there ever was. And ever will be. He epitomized what true professional wrestling was. God rest your soul Mr. Race. THE GREATEST THERE EVER WAS, AND WILL EVER BE....
I really like Lex. Rooted against him all through my childhood and it hurt my heart when he became a Horseman. Seems like the most sincere, nicest guys in these interviews. Hope he stays well and I'm rooting for him now.
My favorite is Mick Foley’s story from Legends Roundtable & it involves some accountant telling Mick that WCW won’t cover his medical injury because he was busted open outside the ring. Harley walks in and tells this guy “It was a HEADBUTT…INSIDE THE RING” The poor guy goes “But Harley we got it on tape” Harley: “IT WAS A HEADBUTT…INSIDE THE RING!” Accountant: “….ok Mick we got you covered!”
It wasn't a accountant, from WCW it was a doctor from the Maryland boxing and wrestling commission. The doctor was stiching Mick up from a chair shot outside of his Ring. He told Mick it was a shame the it didn't happen inside the ring because the commission would cover it. Harley look at the doc and told him it 2as a headbutt inside the ring. The doctor said come on we all saw him get hit with he chair out side. Harley looked at him again and said I told you it was a headbutt inside the ring. The doctor said ok Harley it was inside of the ring, the commission would cover it
When Lex Luger of that era specifically had so much respect and love for Harley Race then you know Harley was the man. Lex Luger is a different guy nowadays and I'd guess some of the respect he grew for the business had much to do with having Harley around him.
Harley Race was a legit badass, there other champions who may have won the belt numerous times but Harley Race was the hardest working champion, ever!!!
He was a master technician, could brawl, and was a pioneer off the top rope. Harley did not have to prove that he was tough, you “knew” he was. Race could work with anyone, from Stevens to Andre, from Brisco to Brody. He was not showy on the mike, but he got his point across, often without raising his voice. Race was a professional, as you have never heard another wrestler state that he took liberties with them.Simply put, he is one of the top ten performers in the history of wrestling.
@@tanishawhite9141 not true. Harley was a shooter and legit strong as a bear. As soon as he got those big hands on those young guys he would have taken them to school.
Harley race was a rough guy. King of the vertical suplex. He would hold an opponent up forever then drop them right straight down on their head. One of my favorites along with dick the bruiser and bruiser Brody.
I never realized following wrestling since I was a kid how tough and capable Harley Race was. (such as Meng). To go through so much real life shit, as well as pro careers, is remarkable. All respect to those men, IN EVERY WAY. Which BTW is sorely lacking nowadays! 🙏
Harley’s left hand is a stuff of legends. One my favorite quotes from Harley is: “If I hit my opponent with my left hand, and he doesn’t go down, I’ll walk behind him and see what’s holding him up” I mean that’s badass
its almost impossible to hear what flair is saying exactly, but you know there is so much respect and admiration and the crowd is hanging on every word. amazing

Seen Harley wrestle in Vancouver 1x back in the 1970s. He had that manly confidant look. His body was quite tall & very powerful looking. Think he was just passing thru the area as I think he just wrestled here 1x or very few times...possibly.

They put Harley with Vader for many reasons, and the teaching was a big part, but also to keep Vader in line because of the respect factor. Harley did a lot for Lex and tried to a lot for Lex. Billy Graham ended up having his respect factor go through the roof with NWA fans for doing a time limit draw, wish he could have seen what that did for him.

When Andre The Giant and Haku/Meng say you're a badass I'll take their word for it. Even when he managed Vader Race looked like he could kick your ass.

Harley spent time in Puerto Rico in the 80's, Bad Dude.No one messed with him.
