  • Substance abuse, among others, is turning out to be an emerging and major social concern, especially among young adolescents in Nagaland today. By all indications, drug use is making resurgence, attributed to an enigmatic yet clearly felt ‘Sunflower’ drug.
We take an in-depth look into the issue through the first-hand account of former users who reveal striking information about the drug. At the same, authorities and church leaders have also provided their inputs on the matter and ways to tackle about this ‘human crisis.’

Total recovery takes time, needs patience and strong mentality. It took me 26 days and 26 nights without a single minute of getting sleep to recover from the itch and pain in my bones to subside and slowly after a month or two l was able to fully recover. Happy that l was able to overcome, but still the social stigma among the Nagas brings back depressing memories, sad to say that even among from family members, even after 3 yrs now that l left calls me a drug addict, some not all. We need a helping hand, not a discriminator.

Kindly, do not force your brother or anyone to completely stop consuming drugs 💉💊if they are already addicted 😢it's like you're telling them to completely stop eating food. We also need to understand and acquire the medical knowledge etc. Don't simply send them to prayer centre also (I'm not against of prayer centre but along with the spiritual guidance we also need physical process of healing.) Please most of our nagas what we do is we simply force them to stop consuming at one goal or forcibly send them to prayer centre or even put them in local jail 😢let's fight together for better solution 🙏don't also be simply pressurised by believing all the prophecy and send them to some kind of prayer centre. Seek guidance from doctor prescription as well.

      You said it right.
Forcing/Condemning will only make it difficult.
But Speaking from experience, Fasting and Prayer actually Helps. The human body kind of resets or renew itself during prolonged fasting.
Fasting is not easy LOL but the benefits far outweighs all that intense hunger & irritability.
If I can do every 3 days fast per week in my own home, then You can do as well.
This is a hard, one discipline but you will Rise above it in Jesus name.
With God all things are possible!
      Take care...

CONDEMNATION & DISCRIMINATION is the MAJOR REASON which allows users to become more attached to the ‘addiction.’ Instead helping them to recover, make them feel motivated, by encouraging them to ‘they can do it’ words. Do not discriminate them, discard them, demoralise their existence rather support them in the de-addiction process, find ways to let them neglect their old habits and build new habits.
“Rome was not built in a day” and thus, remembering that, give them time to build themselves for better.
That’s a personal view of mine towards the ‘fight.’
May good days in the lives of the brothers featured, be restored soon. 😊

Addiction is a disease and should be treated like any other disease. They need family and friends support. When they are sick, struggling and fighting this disease the least the patient need is criticism and discrimination from society. We need more professional counsellors and therapists for sunstance abuse.
Also the Church should have a Professionally trained and qualified Counsellers (not self made counsellers) because church is a safe place to ask for help for many.
It's high time that 'Mental Health' be given ample importance just as physical health. It's killing us emotionally and mentally because we don't talk about it.
Like one of our brother have mentioned, the schools also need to impart awareness on these lessons.
God bless our brave brothers for opening up. The biggest step is seeking HELP.

It's really a heart breaking to see our dear and near ones with this. The struggle is so real, all we can do is whisper a prayer, encourage them and watch them helplessly. If you find anyone addicted to it, hate and condemnation is not the solution, many of them go depression because of the rejection they faced, instead Love them despite of their wrong doings. May our good Lord strengthen all those people who are struggling. 🙏

There was a trend of excessive opium use before sunflower/brown sugar was introduced. I have also seen and dealt with its users during my stint in student union. Almost all opium users shifted to SF. It's very disheartening, many youth have fallen slave to drugs. Rehab and recovery centre is needed to deal with it's menace.

Using drugs is like playing games and leveling up to higher level... The higher level it goes the better it feels also the josh... I also have a friend we are good buddies, we do the same things together...but this friendship didnt last for long.. we use to do this and that shit together from smoking to drinking, I have also tried weed along with this friend if mine but the kick scared the hell outta me... My friend was an addict of it... After seeing the kick in me... He made up his mind not to touch it anymore and he quit weed but after a week he started using again... i asked him why?? He giggled, i could not control... Slowly i started to stay away from him... After some few months he started taking this so called SF...after he got introduced to this new drug he quit drinking also smoking weed... I saw the drug its a little bit pinkish powdered substance... I warned him again not to consume this...he would say okay bro... But he cannot control himself... On the days he dont use he would be like mad, have skin irritation... Only the drug would make him quite... He got new friends and we never mingled for a long time... I went out of state and when i came back i heard he was arrested for consuming as well as peddling SF drug to end users in small quantities... I heard that he is currently in a rehab centre somewhere in the state.. i dont know the exact location... All i can say is "come back as a new you" i dont need the old you bro... "be the light to the darkness".
******Im sure the drug users are the ones who steals too, sad but true water pumps and others and sells to buy their drug*****
The drug needs to be stopped and all other illegal activities would be stopped automatically.

This has become a menace or like diseases in our society which is a big problem for all of us because even i heard that most of the upcoming youths have been slowly yet continously thronged into this addiction. However, what i heard from some reliable source is that, it has become a good business for some Naga political workers because they're always spying for this traffickers or users(sounds good to hear as if a guadian) and when they caught them they call their parents or relatives and demand a huge amount of money as ransom or fine which the parents have to bear upon. You guys think its good and fair to demand money from the innocent parents just because their sons guilty? Could this bring changes to the addiction or traffickers? I dont think so but its happening everyday in our society. No punishment can change the users but only by educating them like in the rehabilitation centre through our support and prayer. Should we not stand up and fight against this menace through our prayer and support so that we could eradicate this from our society once and for all? May God help.

Exactly. Instead of helping the addicts quit, they're more interested in money. They take this as an opportunity to get easy money. I mean if they really care they would help the drug users quit by sending them to rehab or taking other initiatives but instead they demand money, as if the addicts will stop after paying fine. These so called undergrounds are all blinded by money.

If the abusers are to be cured of the menace, there's no need for sending to jail. Government can provide fund for healthcare so that they are cared by psychiatrists. The borders and check gates to be strict. The airport, railway station, bus station and all the vehicle entry points be well equipped with personnels stationed. Why VIPs be given XYZ security whereas our childrens are dying. Use the security personnels for the right job. Most important parents love and care is needed.

I really like chairperson pastors......our church leader and our society is not helping a drugs user.... instead everyone looks down'...we discriminate them......we should helped them and encourages them.......firstly spritual help is most important.....we should go to every house to heal them and counseling them......yes church leader should move first instead of ignoring them......church leaders is helping.....but not every church leader.......

Dear.bro.n.sis.plz don,t put any stigma in the society for drugs abusers. They are like us but due to some curiosity among their peers they take some substances of abuses when they realize it was already become late.Societies should not discriminate them on their basis of their past deeds, they needs love and cares from dear and near ones and from their society.

The state govt., is not doing enough to keep the young people from drugs. We see children as young as 12 years using tobacco products. 15 to 25 years using drugs. There's no proper rehabilitation institutions in Nagaland despite the surging rise in drug users in the state. Churches, NGO's and formal institutions are not doing enough to safeguard the young people. Save our youths. Save our state.
