A film by Chicago Aussie, narrated by me!
The restoration involved a superficial cleaning, the removal of the old varnish, reversal of old and failing conservation work, several stabilization treatments, repair of tears, retouching and varnishing. The techniques and materials employed are all reversible and archival and in accordance with modern conservation practices and the AIC's Code of Ethics.
Emma Gaggiotti (1825 - 1912) was an Italian painter who was active in the United Kingdom. She completed five paintings for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.

Staples tear the canvas more easily since they're 2 little holes with a piece of metal pressed on the canvas in between.

The major criticism of the recent cleaning of the Sistine Chapel ceiling is that the conservators removed layers of what was not accretions of dirt and grime, but painting a secco applied by Michelangelo atop the fresco that added volume and dimension to his figures. Have you ever encountered a situation like that, where a work was supposedly executed in one medium but had features added by the original artist in a different medium, that you had to be careful not to inadvertently clean away?

I just spent 10 minutes of my life watching this...
It was worth it.. I don't know why but it was..

these videos are so satisfying to watch. Whenever I need a pick-me-up I always like to watch TH-cam, mostly painting restaurations, floral foam crushing, instant karma videos, blackhead, cyst and ear wax removals, hoarder house makeovers, and videos of people organising their collections of various kinds of things. I wonder what my ancestors from pre-Internet times would think about that.

Competent walk-through. All extremely sensible and non-destructive. Nice videography, too. Two thumbs up.

What I dig about all this is no matter what you come across you are never bashing anyone for the things they did before you. You just pull your pants up and do what you can to make it as best you can to the best of your abilities.
