I recently read an article on how the people working at tesla training FSD by driving around, are told to let the car go as far as possible without intervening. At 12:01 I thought you would be just perfect for that job! Collecting data until nearly crashing. You have nerves if steel, good reactions and good driving skills.
Lane assist and dynamic cruise control is the most im ready to trust in a car. Even the lane assist has tried to send me off the road a couple of times so im never relaxed. Not in a Tesla tho but a VW
Tesla Autopilot is probably better than VW even with the already obsolete Autopilot you can see in this video. However I highly encourage you to watch some FSD videos from AI DRIVR! That's far beyond lane assist ;)
Tesla doesn’t really do lane assist. When it’s steering you can’t or you’ll abort autopilot. In my Hyundai I have lane assist and it really helps staying in lane while allowing you to make corrections. It too sometimes reacts to strange markings, but it’s easy to correct and doesn’t disengage. Sometimes autopilot isn’t helpful at all as lane keeping assist. They are just not at the level they can provide a reliable lane assist.
@@apt8012 The autosteer on Autopilot is not a lane ASSIST. It keeps you in the middle of the lane actively steering. With AP disabled it will warn and steer you back into your lane but not actively keep you in the lane, meaning, YOU drive.
@@mousetreat It needs constant corrections when not driving on highways. And every correction disables the system, defeating the purpose completely. Not good enough as autopilot and not an assistant. For me autopilot is less useful than a lane assist.
I think it's super important to know that this is all on basic lane assist not on FSD, note double bars not single bars Basic lane assist should be going around bicyles or making complex decisions like at round abouts
@@robotinreallife tesing for something that its not going to do well... seems a bit pointless, but I understand the desire to experience it... its an old version, so not comparible to USA currently right ? This isn't even EAP ?
Totally get your point! This is indeed the basic Autopilot, not FSD or even Enhanced Autopilot, so it has clear limitations. Testing it in tough scenarios might seem pointless, but it actually serves two important purposes. First, it shows how far current Autopilot can go (or not go) with just lane-keeping capabilities, especially in the EU where regulations and updates lag behind the U.S. Second, and more importantly, it creates a solid benchmark for comparison. When FSD eventually arrives in the EU, we’ll have a clear baseline to see how much the tech has evolved. This type of testing lays the groundwork for understanding the real progress and improvements once FSD is here. Appreciate your feedback - this kind of dialogue helps clarify what Autopilot can and can’t handle right now, while setting up for more advanced testing in the future!
If you had at least EAP and were using it on larger straight roads then the video might be worth watching. Having now tried EAP on fast roads it makes long journeys very safe and comfortable 1000km and I feel like just a 100km drive in a normal car.
Nice video. Thanks for that. Please can you record video where is description of all levels of Tesla autopilot with examples how they work in Europe right now. Nobody has done it properly yet.
Very curious to see similar test in few weeks or months whenever FSD 12.5.x hits EU (with needed certification for open road, hopefully). Thx for your time testing this out in its actual state :)
Whoa, seems like I found the first person more optimistic about FSD timelines than myself! A few weeks, that would be awesome... I'll keep my predictions "conservative" and just continue hoping for a Q1 2025 release :D Thank you so much for the comment, keep them coming!
Hello neighbor! Thank you for the suggestion, we'll definitely explore closer to the borders in later videos and for sure with FSD, the autobahn seems like a cool place to test!
My 5 cents to autopilot: - Having to steer the wheel is crazy in 2024 - If you steer more than it deems acceptable it will disengage immediately (try thinking what'll happen if you are on a turn driving 130) - It's constantly nagging for "steering", way to often - Can't change lanes (the base autopilot) - You can't do anything while it's engaged, I mean you can't take over, steer or adjust. It will just violently (I mean it, it'll shake your car pretty strong) disengage. It's just a bad system. I'm coming from 18' VW Tiguan, which would center itself between the lines without cruise control, and with it as well. I could take over easily. And BMW X5 21' where the cruise control would temporarily disengage to engage again after I overtake or accelerate (it could also change lanes). To everyone saying I can buy enhanced autopilot, it's 5600EUR where I live which is insane. BMW for a MUCH BETTER system charged me 3000EUR. Not everything is bad with Tesla, but in my opinion, it's assistance systems are really worse than 2018 Volkswagen.
I have to disagree with you on that. I had rented 2024 iX3 fully loaded and it has just an adaptive cruise control with lane assist. On the highway it was good, but nothing intelligent there.
Hey, thanks! You can simply make the visualization window larger by dragging your finger on the screen to pull the divider all the way to the right side until the map dissapears. It's all really intuitive!
Have you ever seen anything like this? 🚴

I will pass your compliments to our driver! Maybe when Tesla is looking for EU testers, he can be the first in line :D

I'm amazed at how much effort you put in the videos. I really like them.
Welcome to the channel! Trying to get everything going as best as possible before FSD is released and the real fun begins :D
Sad that FSD is not available in EU. Subscribed!
My man! Thanks a lot and don't worry - the robots are coming for us too 🤖 Just today we got ASS for the first time 🍑💖

Should not*
You're exactly right! However it's still called Autopilot and as such deserves rigorous testing in challenging scenarios :D

@@robotinreallife Considering blocking by UNECE, even Q1 2026 would be optimistic… 😢
You are not navigating to a destination, so how do you expect the car to know where to go at a roundabout?
That's a great point! However anything other than FSD would not be able to handle roundabouts anyways...
@@robotinreallife Agreed. Then you should state that instead of referring to it as a disengagement as if the car is confused.

Nice Vid but i got a question, how are you able to see the visualsation on the full screen and not the map? Is it dependent of the model?
