He didn't play defence lol. He played high press and brought in two offensive refreshments instead of putting in two more defensive options like Stanisic, Erlic or Vida to close out the game.
We can't start Brozović or Petković the next game if we want any chance of winning. We need Sučić in and Budimir in and then we need to get younger subs in the 2nd half like Marco Pašalić or Pjaca. And Modrić and Gvardiol gotta wake up.

I'm Croatian and a fan of our team and while the situation is serious and complicated, having seen our team get out of many situations even more difficult than this one I still hope and believe we can get out of the group and will continue to believe until I'm proven (if I'm proven) otherwise. Italy is strong, but have a history of bottling it against (on paper) weaker opposition (they failed to qualify for the last two WCs). So I hope on Monday we will see "that" Italy, not the holding European champion Italy. Hopefully it will be an all or nothing game for Croatia and Croatia will win all.

You guys don’t really pick the right attackers based on the opponent, the front 3 that started Vs Spain would’ve been much more suitable for Albania, except Pasalic over Majer. Against Spain, you needed a bit more pace like from Ivanusec, Pasalic and Vlasic to press their full backs and attack on the transition. But even in both teams games, they played well enough to win, but that game management we saw at the World Cup is lacking, the type of goals like Morata’s opener and the last minute equalizer are so not like Croatia in terms of discipline.

I think Croatia might just have to accept that their golden generation has come to an end, and their new generation is not nearly as good as the previous one. The defense has been disastrous, and I don't understand why Gvardiol is being played as a full-back and not a center-back. They also haven't been effective when attacking, which leaves them in a very hard position to make it to the knockouts.
Gvardiol was played in both fullback and centerback roles and he was mediocre in both. Šutalo 'Croatian best centerback and in his prime' but is guilty for 1st Spanish goal and for 2nd Albania goal. But 'Vida is too old' despite playing in starting 11 almost every game in Greece this season and having most clean sheets and making no major mistakes like Šutalo 2/2 in both games.
I think Lovren and his impact in defense during Croatian medal runs in 2018 and 2022 is massively underrated and it's painfully obvious we don't have a commander in defense. Guardiola "ruined" Gvardiol for us since he is now neither a good LB for our NT formation nor is in form as a CB.

Why are the favourites playing bad? Watched every match, england only 1-0 with Serbia, belgium lost to slovakia, france played bad with Austria, netherlands Has almost drawn with Poland, and italy only won with Albania 2-1, and portugal literally scored the winner in the last minute against the Czech republic.
Most of those teams play defensive/bunker with counter attacks, look at Czechia, they knew they will not get the ball that much in midflield, they defended good and a counter attack and scored.

I think one of the biggest problems are livakovic. He was a hero in recent times but now. I don’t know he’s not doing well at all. Also our defense needs work. In the midfield, Kovacic isn’t in good form with city or Croatia, so start a young prospect in “Martin Baturnina” . And up top budimir will start with the attack normal
I don't think Croatia will go to the knock out tournament. Regardless of how Italy vs Spain will turn out, I think it's very likely Croatia and Albania will lose to their opponent in the final match, meaning they'll both probably end up in third and fourth with only one point. Having just one point in third is definitely not enough to qualify.

Croatia had a little bit better group of players then they usually have, a tiny bit of luck, and of course massive overachievement, and now its fading away. Whereas Belgium, still have a massively talented group of players, a so called “Golden generation” their problem is, that they cant play together, and that may have been caused by the language setup that the country has. Its also hard to build a togethereness team after 20 years of constant struggle (outside of football) in the country.

No one to replace the attacking threat of Mandzukic and Rakitic, it was a miracle the team even managed to score goals in WC 2022.

The only mistake albania did was substitute way too late, should have done it when Croatia did it, during min 70 not 85. The substitutes were fresh and did 2 quick goals

I said before the tournament that Croatia would underperform in the group stages, sneak through in third and then play really well in the knockouts. If they do qualify in third they will likely face a tough opponent but hopefully they can make it far 🇭🇷
That would make sense tbh, they are suitable to playing teams like Germany, Portugal and Holland who come press at you.
But the game against Spain is an eye opener, Spain beat Croatia to their own game.

I think Croatia might just have to accept that their golden generation has come to an end, and their new generation is not nearly as good as the previous one. The defense has been disastrous, and I don't understand why Gvardiol is being played as a full-back and not a center-back. They also haven't been effective when attacking, which leaves them in a very hard position to make it to the knockouts.

Gvardiol was played in both fullback and centerback roles and he was mediocre in both. Šutalo 'Croatian best centerback and in his prime' but is guilty for 1st Spanish goal and for 2nd Albania goal.
But 'Vida is too old' despite playing in starting 11 almost every game in Greece this season and having most clean sheets and making no major mistakes like Šutalo 2/2 in both games.
I think Lovren and his impact in defense during Croatian medal runs in 2018 and 2022 is massively underrated and it's painfully obvious we don't have a commander in defense. Guardiola "ruined" Gvardiol for us since he is now neither a good LB for our NT formation nor is in form as a CB.

Why are the favourites playing bad? Watched every match, england only 1-0 with Serbia, belgium lost to slovakia, france played bad with Austria, netherlands Has almost drawn with Poland, and italy only won with Albania 2-1, and portugal literally scored the winner in the last minute against the Czech republic.
What about Portugal, they only beat Czechia 2-1 and one of them was an OG
Most of those teams play defensive/bunker with counter attacks, look at Czechia, they knew they will not get the ball that much in midflield, they defended good and a counter attack and scored.

Croatia is getting too old, their known defense is crumbling, the never really had a forward and even in their “golden generation” which feels over, Livakovic peaked at the World Cup like many other GKS like Ochoa, Croatia probably will have a golden generation again like they did in 98’ but I can safely say that their run has ended and they probably will join the likes of Türkiye’s, Albanias, Bosnias, who knows if they even qualify for the next World Cup which would suck but I think Croatia peaked at the world cups, but I guess that’s football. Maybe Euro2028 we can see Croatia in a tournament, but I think long gone the days of beating teams like France, Brazil, etc.

I think one of the biggest problems are livakovic. He was a hero in recent times but now. I don’t know he’s not doing well at all. Also our defense needs work. In the midfield, Kovacic isn’t in good form with city or Croatia, so start a young prospect in “Martin Baturnina” . And up top budimir will start with the attack normal

Regardless of how Italy vs Spain will turn out, I think it's very likely Croatia and Albania will lose to their opponent in the final match, meaning they'll both probably end up in third and fourth with only one point. Having just one point in third is definitely not enough to qualify.

Croatia had a little bit better group of players then they usually have, a tiny bit of luck, and of course massive overachievement, and now its fading away.
Whereas Belgium, still have a massively talented group of players, a so called “Golden generation” their problem is, that they cant play together, and that may have been caused by the language setup that the country has. Its also hard to build a togethereness team after 20 years of constant struggle (outside of football) in the country.
When Modrić, Perisic, Kovacic, Kramaric and all the other old players retire from the national team Croatia are gonna be like Bosnia
