Hi! We are already an RC family! I printed alpha phonics today and was planning to print the readers but when I looked at them it looks very wordy. Overwhelming, even for me 🤷🏻♀️ Is there a link that has them in a bigger font?
One thing we are doing with our children is...their first year of reading after learning the basics is a free reading year before beginning the Robinson list. Dr.Suess and early readers are ideal for this time period. They still read aloud to me from McGuffeys but they begin their independent silent reading daily from easier books. Early readers really help with learning sight words in usage.
Exactly what I needed to hear today! Thank you! I had already started this with writing the initials awhile ago and somehow it got out of the routine. Bringing it back out today to start with the next round of kids. Love how thorough yet simple it is.
With Saxon having only 120 or so lessons per book even if you wait until 10...they can easily do 2 books per year at that time doing math 6 days a week year around. So really there is no hurry to start Saxon 5/4 (we start with Rod and Staff 3 as a gentler start though) as the later they start the easier it will be. If they are working hard still learning to read well independently a little older there is no need to worry as once they get it they will go so so fast through the early books.

We have used it for five weeks and love it. I used mom delights pages and made a spelling book and we practice writing our alphaphonics words and there's room for a doodle at the bottom we do one word a day and he fills one column with that word. I put in other pages for the occasional copywork from readers and a doodle. I will be gone a few days and this is easy enough anyone like dad or sisters can fill in while I'm gone I'm prefiling in the spelling words for him and on that subject they need nothing else but a good stash of bonus readers for some fun, I use a cd for the computer I have for hooked on phonics spelling, it's like a game and he likes that and it really helps merge the phonics and spelling together because it's all about sounds
Where can I order your "Our House RC Phonics Flashcard Guide"? Would this Guide plus the RC Phonics Flashcards be a good substitute for Alpha-Phonics for an above average student? Thank you.

It’s basically math textbooks, writing every day on whatever they wish and going through a large book list. There are only a few Christian books in the high school years but of course a lot of the books are heavy on good morals as books over 100 years old tend to be. There are families from all sorts of backgrounds that use RC.

Thank you for your videos! Question.... When your kids are learning their math facts, how long do you have them spend on each set of facts? Do they sit and memorize in one sitting until that specific pile is memorized? Or, do you give a specific amount of time each day for memorizing, and if they need more time to have it memorized, then they wait until the following day?

I admit that I am definitely one of those moms that wants my child to be academically advanced. I have been convinced by other youtubers who have successfully done it with their children so I wanted to try it out for myself. I used alphabet flashcards with my daughter (flashing each letter while saying the sound it makes) and it was very effective - she knew all of her letter sounds by age 2. Before age 3 she mastered blending three letter words containing short vowels (mat, fin, dot, etc.). She is just over 3 now and can read some sight words and read four and five letter words containing short vowels (stop, sand, truck, etc.). Seeing how capable she is makes me want to move forward HOWEVER, she is showing signs of resistance. She has no trouble with learning new words, but she simply doesn't want to. She has no desire to read at the moment and that is something I need to accept. I have pushed her a little harder than I probably should have to keep going, because I thought maybe once she saw that she can actually read a beginner book she would get excited and that would motivate her - but nope...she still resists. I don't want to ruin reading for her by associating it with me forcing her to do it too young (or when she has no genuine desire) so I will wait. I actually asked her if she wants to wait until she is older to learn to read and she said "yes" with a bit of relief in her voice. It made me a bit sad to hear that (because of how capable she is), but she is only 3! It really shouldn't be this difficult for me to accept and simply wait. I just need to keep praying in Jesus' name to help me do what is right and best for her no matter what I want; what I want doesn't matter in this particular situation - especially at her young age. I have been binge watching your channel and have decided that the Robinson Curriculum is right for our family. All aspects of it make so much sense to my husband and I. We both just watched your video titled "How to Homeschool in 2020" and my husband is fully on board. We purchased your RC for Littles course too and it looks awesome so far! I think it will help me out a lot with calming down about rushing things. Thank you so much for all of the content you release for us (free and paid)! I am so excited to start RC, but have to be patient since my daughter is only 3 haha. The birth of my second daughter in about 4 weeks should help pass the time though. :)
I was forced to learn how to read at 3 in a rather...stern, I guess I'll call it...way. And I didn't hate reading because of it. Before I became a stay at home mom, I was a freelance writer for 9 years and I love reading today. BUT at nearly 35 the memories of that experience stick with me, and I would never do it to my children. I would've had a love of reading no matter what since I grew up in a house full of books, forcing it so hard wasn't necessary. I said all of that to say, I think you're doing the right thing by easing back for a bit. I have 5 children, 13 yrs to 9 months old, and I've been homeschooling for 7 years. I get wanting your children to have a solid education, just keep reading to her. Grow her love of reading and her imagination, make sure she grows up learning scripture...she'll be just fine.
@@silvernblack21 Yes! Her favourite books to ask us to read to her are 2 childrens devotional-style books. She asks for them everyday & already has a lot of God/Jesus facts memorized. Its so cute to see her casually explain her understanding of Christianity in her own words.
@@Dreblueskies I do have some different stuff I am using. Karen’s remedial course for my older kids and Don Potters stuff and someone sold me a very cheap logic of English book I may use too .

I highly highly highly recommend you read “Reading Magic” by Mem Fox. I think it will help you see the big picture.
