On route to the Central Volcanic Zone, I stop by Kerosene Creek for a hot dip in the thermally heated water. This is a must visit location for anyone travelling in the region.
The second part of the video takes us to the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, where I have one real goal: to find and see the Emerald Lakes. I have a Christmas lunch packed, and a bottle of Mexican tequila to celebrate making it to the summit of the Red Crater. VAMOS!

A great video. Spectacular. I had never imagined that New Zealand had so much geological diversity. What we usually see in movies is the South Island but the North Island is incredible. You are lucky to be going through this pandemic in a country like New Zealand with so few cases and the means to keep tourists out for now. Here in Portugal, in the towns declared to be in a severely dangerous situation, we are not even supposed to be out of our houses after 13.00 today. All shops and restaurants closed at 13.00. Today we had a high of 5º with a bitter cold fog lingering over the town. It is so nice to see you in shirtsleeves even on top of a mountain.
Thanks Ray! Here in NZ it’s as though there is no pandemic. Other than being confined to NZ, there aren’t many restrictions we have since there is not one community case currently. Sad to hear your situation in Portugal isn’t the best right now, let’s hope 2021 brings positive change with the world situation.

Gracias! There was no warning signs about the dangers of the water - I couldn’t believe it. The walk was great but it hurt my knees 😭 (I would do it again any day, I loved it regardless of the pain)

OK.. that does it! You simply MUST come to Oregon for many similar hikes!! We have so many volcanos and mountain lakes and high deserts... the list goes on and on :) I agree we should "LIVE LIKE EVERYDAY Like it is our LAST! YES! with Joy and Happiness , Curiosity and intrigue :) But before you come over finish this amazing tour you are showing us now? The scenery just keeps getting better and better!!! I love the road heading up the mountain and the amazing crater area.. well, really ALL OF IT! :D Mil Gracias for every thing you share!!!
Oregon 2021/22!! You’ve really sold it and I can’t wait to swing by Oregon. If you could be my personal guide that would be perfecto 😃!! My new rough plan is to start from Ushuaia and go up to Alaska’s northern most point while stopping mostly in Latin American countries along the way. I’m excited to see in person the similarities between NZ and Oregon.

Actually having that tequila helped mask the pain in my knees slightly so it was a life saver having it 😀

3:43 : I would love to explore around New Zealand someday.. Looks beautiful. I only visited Auckland once for four days.. I didn't do much since it was the last city of my two month trip. Auckland was nice though.. on that trip I wanted to do an around the world trip. I did New York City, London, Barcelona, made my way up to Paris and stopped in Montpelier and Lyon along the way, and the Cologne, Germany and Nijmegen, Netherlands and then I flew from Cologne to Bangkok and then Singapore and the Melbourne and then wrapped things up in Auckland.. and for that trip I did nothing but hostels and I think that alone exhausted me more so than the jet lag.. so by the time I made it to Auckland I just wanted to chill out.
7:45 : I am sorry for your knees. Is there anything doctors can do for you? I can't think of it from the top of my head, but there's some kind of shot you can get that might help.
9:30 : was there any ash on the ground. I did a volcano tour while I was in Costa Rica, Izaru Volcano. and even in the city of Cartago there was ash on the ground. but that's because that volcano actually erupted.. but that was back in 1962-1965 so that shit does not go away.. not sure if the volcano you went to erupted or not.

Wow I thought so!! There are other hot pools close by to the Emerald lakes which are closed indefinitely due to someone dying in it back in the 90s 😑. Incredible location though.
