As we have seen, some will put enough just enough oud in the mix so that they can legally claim that they do but not enough that a trained person can detect it.
I was saying a few days ago that I'd like to hear your thoughts on CDG Wonderwood so imagine my surprise to see that you posted a review of it. I didn't like this fragrance at first for the same reasons you mentioned. It was too bitter and dry. Now it's one of my favs. The dry down for me is where the magic is. It gets a bit creamy because of the sandalwood which I enjoy. Thanks for the review man.
First time I've seen a direct comparison with Rush. And just picked up my full bottle of Wonderwood last week. I love it for how powerfully unapologetically woody it is.Thanks Aaron!!
I hope you would try out Guerlain's Habit Rouge edt, I feel that it is an absolutely lovely fragrance that has the balance which you always harp on (if you can get past the harsh start)

I've got a 5ml sample of this, and it's something I struggle with. I want to love it, but the bitterness that ATH describes is part of the problem. The projection is the other part. It's decent for about 45 minutes, and then it's a really soft skin scent. It lasts for quite a while, but it's super personal.
Interesting. I own Wonderoud by commes de garcon (probably not real Oud but it may have been near some once) and i considered sampling this back when i bought that but have since fallen down the fragrance rabbit hole and bought a load of others. I'm tempted to get a sample now but but after all the things i've tried now, i'll probably think its crap.

Conceptual art. Modern, urban and easy to wear masculine woody scent. No sweetness (thats great for me).....if you like Encre Noir (masterpiece /unique perfume) you ‘ll love this. Comme de garcons is such an underrated brand between youtubers though very appreciated by loyal fans.....GDC2 is such a legend unique and huge seller!!
This is really nice explanation od sandal wood scent. Many perfumes mention notes like sandal wood or cedar wood but they are way different in each frag. This is the reason why it's not worth to buy base on notes list. It would be gr8 if you could explain some basic substances using to produce notes on different variations. Maybe most popular ones.
This is the closest to a freshly chopped piece of wood it can get with a fragrance. It is a lumberjack fragrance to me, indeed very raw and masculine. I just wish it had a longevity to match the initial punch. Mine is entirely gone in less than 4 hours. I do not like sweet frags, so its dryness is a big plus actually:-D
That (or almost that) is one of my recent discoveries and love. I struggled to find a replacement for Rush for years, had my affair with Azzaro Visit, but that was a tad too metallic and overloaded with patchouli (i love patchouli, just didn't click in that dna). I think that this fragrance was meant to be linear and hmm...monolithic? You should try Wonderoud from the same house. It supposedely contains real oud (sustainable) which I think I can detect a bit, but that is not the game changer - Wonderoud is more balanced into a bit more wet fragrance, and with more (although still discreete) swetness. I lost sense of smell because a coronavirus infection. For a fragrance lover its one of the most dificult and depressing phase in my life I have to face.

It was an influence...Wis wife wore it so he commissioned CdG to do GIRL. Its stunning and dark AF!!! GIRL was overprice on its release so no one bought it. Sad...Its a EDP and its a masterpiece by CdG.
I generally cannot stand very sweet fragrances. Would there be a way to do dry, spicy notes well without adding sweet notes? I love a pepper note, too...
Were can i get Gucci Rush??? I've been looking for a bottle but I'm afraid it's gonna be fake : ( ..... I thought that it didn't smell like Gucci ...been looking for something similar for a long time ...
This is one of the few fragrances that I hate. Sorry, I can help it. I admire the art and craft behind it, but I just can't stand the overly woody quality it screams.

I agree I had the bottle due to a swap but I sold it since it was too dry, bitter and I knew lalique encre noir is cheaper, similar and better IMO

I think being one dimensional robust edgy woody is rather the point of that frag. Not my cup of tea either, just like Encre Noire.
Those fragrances from come to garçon are very simple though they almost all seem unfinished me
