@@richardcline1337 Back then the price of the flight was also 10x the today's price. You can even fly for 50$ or less today. They put more seats in, so they can lower the price per passenger, consequently offering less leg space. You can always fly first class and have all the legroom you want if you are spoiled. Governments should set an international aviation rule specifying what the minimum legroom, seat width, and aisle width should be, putting health and safety above everything else.
And if that means airliners have 1/3rd fewer seats, and economy class tickets triple in price, so be it.

Protector H i bet as soon as u got to altitude it was time to come back down but must of been an amazing experience for a young boy. I never got to fly until I was 17 when I joined the UK 🇬🇧 Army n I had no idea what to expect but I tried to play it cool 😎, not sure if it worked lol. I’ve always been an aviation but the strange thing is that I was terrified of flying until I got to the age of around 40 n something just clicked n now I’m ok but still a bit nervous. I always got on the planes n just stayed quiet but inside I was actually terrified, more terrified than what was waiting for us when we went to various war zones. I think it was a control issue. Not being able to do anything if something went wrong, basically stuck in a metal cigar tube waiting to hit the ground 🙈. But like I said I’ve gotten over most of that now.

@@perbertelsen2860, in 1963 Boeing came out with the same tail stairs on the tri-jet 727. I used to fly on 727 mail-cargo many times during the month on schedule and was responsible for mail documentation and critical mail. We did not have internet then, not even in a dream, so letters and else had to "travel". I was the one to open the huge cargo door on the side of the fuselage, receive the cargo (pallets), sign doc's, etc. The jump seat behind the captain was my seat. We used to make those flights in the wee hours and with four people in the cockpit and the rest of that tube with cargo to the brim it was as fun as hell, literally. The best nights were when we had to fly thru bad (tropical-Brasil) weather with the windshield covered with Saint Elmo's fire while lightning and thunderbolts would illuminate our way thru the clouds. It was an adrenaline trip hard to forget.

Never got to see one of these fly; I have heard the Caravelle was one of the noisiest airliners around. The elevator placement reminds me of a Sud Vautour or a Super Mystere. And the window shape-best combination of see through-ability and keeping the windows intact throughout God knows how many pressurization cycles throughout the life of the plane. You see this distinctive and sexy looking airliner (yes planes can be sexy) and you see today's frumpy, harsh riding Airbuses. The caravelle was built in a different time; I can imagine the machine work and construction quality are light years ahead of today's airliners. Flew in this plane from Cork to Toulouse around 1993 . Was going skiing in Andorra. Remember sitting in the seats which face each other. Went back to Andorra the next year. Again flew with Air Toulouse but this time they used a very old 737.

Some of first rides (military stand by) on commercial jets was on a Caravelle - Milwaukee to Washington National. The climb-out looked like 45° from my window seat. It was all first class, and I was served a fillet. Those were the days (-:

Mark Himmler & me... I think joy rides out of Las Vegas to ? Anywhere... have lunch & back to Las Vegas would be so cool. Or use as regular plane service to Los Angeles? It would make the trip here fun, throw in an Old 707, I think Saha Air was still flying 707 a few years ago just like it was 1968. How about a 727, de Havilin

I had a had maybe two rides in 1969 on one of those. WOW! what a experience! I had a window seat, and it looked like the horizon was 45° or more as we took off from Milwaukee KMKE for what was then Washington National airport. I was flying military standby, and I think once I paid full fare which was 1st class. Fillet mignon and an hour and a half to D.C. Sweet memories. Other rides on the MKE to DC trip was on the Viscount turboprop those were equally memorable as well.

The airplane’s history makes me remember of a Danish song from 1967. In one verse the text goes (translated):
"Every Sunday the priest meets at 10 AM
There he is alone and abandoned without an audience because
On Saturday everyone in Tjæreborg (a city) went to the dance
What does a priest do in such a situation?
He drags the entire congregation to Mallorca in the Caravelle
So he’ll earn on the swings what he has lost on the carousel
    "
The priest mentioned started a travelling agency, Tjæreborg Traveling, in 1950, and in 1962 he founded Sterling Airways, first owner 7:46 of this Caravelle OY-STE in 1968.

Now that these planes have long since reached the end of their useful life in the air, one can really appreciate every nut, bolt, electronics, hours of construction, pilots & crew skill, etc. that made it possible to safely transport countless passengers to their destinations all over the world. Talk about Service to Humanity - we are truly Blessed. Thank You.

I flew in an Air France Caravelle from Heathrow to Ajaccio (Corsica) in 1976. I also built one from an Airfix plastic kit in the 1960s. The Airfix notes explained that although the aircraft had only 2 engines, it could glide for 200 miles with both engines out. I also have a vague memory that the toilets may have had a window. Is that correct? Nice aircraft! Many thanks for making this video!

Took me back to my first flight, June '69 with SAS from Tromsø to Oslo. Have since flown on more or less every jet made, except A380 and A350, and on most common transport turboprop too.
In my mind the Caravelle was the noisiest of them all. I had to yell to communicate with the stewardess. Can't say I miss it. Nice video though.

As a 10 years old child, I had the pleasure of flying one of these Syrian Air super 10 Caravels. It was a one stop flight with an airline change in Beirut. The Trip lasted only 15 minutes in which we where slung over both The Eastern and Western Lebanese Mountain Ranges. An entering flight that was a take of and landing only. That trip is one of my happy childhood memories. Please share a similar memory if it happens that you do.
