Enjoyed this video Gary and a lot of people won’t explore their technique once settled and have shot one way for years. A brave move but one I’m sure will reap rewards. You look like you have space there to create a furnace mill type shooting position to practice from so do it! Create a slightly inclined position and force yourself to practice up the peg
Another corker of a video Gary, I love your honest reviews of technique and that even when the results don't always replicate how you want them too, you still put it in the video with a dash of your humour...wonderful stuff, don't ever change🙂
Hi Gary. I’m in my 70s and aren’t a great shot. Thus I shoot for pleasure rather than podium finishes. There are occasions when I’ve shot a lot worse than my “poor” normal, and for the life of me couldn’t figure out the problem. I’m starting to put it down to my advancing years which flows on through to the technical aspects of shooting a springer. But I’ll keep on trying to improve but won’t let it frustrate me or my enjoyment.
Hi Gary another great video in your last video you were shooting your standard tx straight from a service and you thought you were better thinking you had gone to far with all the adjustments so yes give a go look forward to joining you on your journey (not on the train) as you do great videos take care don't stop at any stations and you'll get home early to make another video regards alan
Enjoy your videos. Had similar problems with pcp airguns. Finally got it down to support hand anticipating tigger hand movement and causing a slight pull in my case to the right (left handed). Still do it occasionally buy now know what to do. Hope you get it figured.
Good stuff. I shoot my 97 up the peg & in the shoulder for HFT and it’s consistently good. If you want to try up the peg exclusively for a bit do yourself a favour and move the buttpad as high as it’ll go which will sit in your shoulder better up the peg 👍good luck Gary
Having said that though, the best springer shooter I know shoots up the peg, the second best shoots off the deck so whatever works for you… just bear in mind that to give ‘up the peg’ it’s best chance you may have to adjust the gun more than just what I suggested for the buttpad, eg maybe move the scope back a touch, adjust the weight for balance etc. worth a try though! Looking forward to seeing the results, Cheers, Matt
Drop your cheek piece a bit to compensate for going up the peg and try shooting thumb up as apposed to thumb through it relaxes the grip of the trigger hand so less likely to pull the shot. Hope this helps
I was told years ago that if you change something on your set up and you stop performing as good as you normally do then go back to how your set up was. For as nice as your stock is if it’s not helping you………
I’ve been struggling with my shooting couldn’t perform consistently. Had an eye test and found out I’ve got a slight cataract in my right eye. Now waiting for an operation.
Hi Garry, I interesting video. I think there is no magic bullet mate, it's probably a number of things like.... dare I say old father time catching up a bit with us, sure go back to the old stock it will be like putting on a comfortable pair of slippers you've had for a long time. But I do think that confidence is a big thing. Like in snooker if you start to doubt it's hard to get your head back in tune with your body. In our sport there are so many variables from wind to poor batch of a fav pellets or barrel fouling a bit, to just plain having an off day. That's what makes it interesting. Shooting at pre measured distances should be a doddle for someone of your calibre maybe get a friend to mess your private range up a bit to make it more of a challenge. I will watch the next instalment with interest. Cheers bud enjoyed the content. 😎👍
Hi Gary. It was great to meet you at Furnace Mill on the Sunday. It seems you had trouble seeing where the pellets hit in your video demonstration. Obviously I don’t know to what range you are shooting out to, or the magnification on your scope, but that could be the problem. Our eyesight does deteriorate and is tough as it may seem, it may be time to up the magnification. If you have a second focal plane scope, you may well need to recalibrate your holdovers and hold unders. Whatever is going wrong, I am sure you will be able to get back into the swing of things. Then your competitors can watch out. 😊
Me and the mrs are regular visitors to furnace mill ( members ) but there's never anything up to say when there's an HFT comp on , ain't done the course yet , spend our time on the plinking range and cafe' .. interesting vid with good tips , will bump into you one day and say hello .. ( thinking of using the shooting stick variation of HFT )
I was a little concerned that you couldn't see where a couple of shots went. It could be your old mince pies Gary?? Sounds like you need to compare results with your old stock asap. That could be revealing.
When i was shooting black powder we never rested on the side of a tree or stake , try shooting from the other side and see what happens , keep the weight on your hand . by the way good video .
if I was to pick anything.... when on the deck your cheek-riser allows you to lie your eye straight into the scope, when in the shoulder it looks too high.. your cheek looks more on the side of the riser...
You may have bought a Ferrari (stock) to do an off-road course, Gary. I think you may have hit the nail on the head, there. I’ve seen you shoot with the old stock and was amazed. As you say, you haven’t won with this stock so either change back or try to alter the new stock, if you like it for other shots, to replicate the old magic. Something is different. Good luck, buddy.
The difference off the ground and up the peg may be due to an astigmatism in the eye? As your looking though the scope at a different angle, the video also showed that you could not see we’re the pellet hit?? Try a different parallax , also when you load the gun and shut that crowbar leaver thingy, you slam it shut, that may be knocking something out of alignment, Just try been a little bit more gentle and caress your gun a bit😘if non of these ideas dont help then can I suggest you try tiddlywinks they don’t go were you want either
surely to god trained snipers/gunmen shoot from the ground not for accuracy but to remain a smaller target, what do i know.. thanks for the great vids👍
Garry I spotted a few things but better explain at misfits if I get there and the hospital don’t kill me again on Wednesday like they did a few weeks back
Gee so far i counted 3 different reasons that you can not hit the target HMM? yea its you, you do suck, time for a regroup and head home, I put a springer riflein the burn barrel because of such problems.
Hi Gary, I wear spectacles in HFT competition. Try shooting with them on, I do! 😎

A superb video as always. Would be good to compare results with your old stock.

Great video Gary. I like the looks of the green stock, but I think it would be worth trying the old stock to see if you get a different result.
I was very surprised that I couldn't see to the pellet strikes. Getting my eyes checked next week.
Very interesting video Gary.
excellent video Gary. Greetings from Florida USA.....bew safe and shoot well....
all my love to the Sunshine state :-) - Chilly

I wonder if that chunk of lead directly on top of the barrel is affecting the harmonics?

Hi Gary, we met the other weekend . My name is Jason.

I’ve noticed the same, I fitted a vector optic 4/24/44 Veyron, would it not be suitable for my TX 200 HC?.

so change your stoke and give it a whirl it’s the only way to find out mate 👍

Perhaps remove the foam padding that you installed inside that stock?
You not so long ago changed your scope just a thought
not being cheeky but maybe you are not breathing as you did a few years ago. it may just be an age thing.
That's a good shout, worth thinking about
Round the peg off & sit on it!. As they say one up the Bum no harm done LOL
U a wrong un😂
I shoot the lead into my Misses regardless of the position!! She always gets me back when I'm Pissed. She Pegs me! OUCH

Part of the fun is working out why I've gone from World Champion to an also ran.
