Easiest but usually more expensive is to just buy a short bed in the first place! The short beds are so popular everyone is cutting down the long bed trucks . Great tips for all the procedures to get great results! Thanks David!!
Now I'm wishing that I had a 60-66 gm truck. Oh well, I have a '68 and a '76, so I'm happy. Here's a helpful tip. Cut on the inside lines of the tape. The reason is if you cut on the outside edge of the tape you're removing an additional 1/8" or so of material because of the blade with, also called Kerf. I love that Dave is using a Harbor Freight tape measure, just like us working class guys.
I love the welding videos, because they apply to everything. I could watch an hour of just welding tips and tricks honestly. 2 hours even. You've helped me so much on my non Chevy build.
Basically my options when buying a project truck were shortening it like this and changing out the rear window for the large one, or dealing with a truck that had those options and a little more rust. Smh, budgets. I chose to deal with some rust instead. lol Thanks for the video!
We always use a BROTHERS Conversion Kit when cutting the frame. We have many videos on that kit here on our channel and they have links directly to the product.
@@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV you say you want to save every truck ever made, but are showing how to cut up a perfectly good long wheel base pickup? I like the long wheel base trucks. My truck isn't a show piece, and I do handyman work all the time for the aging population of my small community. I like to be able to put plywood in the bed of my truck and close the tailgate. Looks like you ruined a perfectly good original bed panel to me.
I know I'm late to this party but , why did you cut out 20 inches (12 + 8 ) when there is only a 18 inch difference between long and short beds ? 8 ft. Vs 6 1/2 ft. Thanks .
Why does everyone make 2 cuts on factory beds the difference is between the axles Single cab 6'6" bed WB 120" Single cab 8' bed & extended cab 6'6" WB139 Ext cab 8'/Crew cab 6'6" bed WB158 5'6” bed half ton crew cab 145wb
Great video.
I'm still glad I have my 66 long bed.
Nothing wrong with a longbed!

Agree, but as long as you are cuttng on the same side of both pieces of tape the extra width of the blade/kerf makes a good gap for the panel clamps.

👍 Good Job . So David do you recommend 0.23 wire for just patch panel work repair like for example a outer rocker repair
.23 works fine for most sheetmetal repair.
My son has a 68 fleet shortbed & a 66 fleet long bed ! He doesnt want to shorten the bed on the 66 !..... OK 😁👍

Do you guys produce a 55-59 drop axle ?
Check out our current product line-up at www.brotherstrucks.com
Isn’t your width off because of the width of the cut off wheel?
Why isn’t Dave Welch on this channel anymore? I’m sure everyone is bummed he hasn’t made any videos recently.
