Saw it today. That... is a very good movie. The horror elements work, but what I'm really impressed by is the lead performances, and the cinematography, and how much information they manage to convey about the characters without beating the audience over the head with it. The early scene with the kangaroo has two characters disagreeing about what to do, and that disagreement conveys that they're *both* fundamentally decent human beings. I can't remember how long it's been since a disagreement in a movie suggested that.
I thought Mia's character was too unbelievable at times. there were some scenes where her character tried to be innocent and cute but her underlying personality failed it . I don't know her it was just a sense I got from her acting . I also found the libertarian mum and teen characters annoying and a Cherry on the top addition to the massive pile of multicultural and wokeness the movie gave off . For me it took away from the story . Call me a hater a bigot whatever I know what I'm not I'm just tired of every movie TV show ect giving off the same vibe because in reality it really isn't everywhere . just where it can be forced and the mother to me gave me the impression of someone who might present on the view cool about everything until it effects them . Boogeyman for me is still the best film I can remember watching in a long time no garbage just a movie being a movie. The end of this movie was great and wasted on most of the film that came before it.
@@batmanimal5993you’re making a mountain out of a molehill. i hate political pandering too and there was none of that in the film. its a story about drug abuse and if your concern was politics then you have some introspection to do.
I love it that more and more TH-camrs are getting the chance to make movies on the big screen. Between this, Chris Stuckman’s movie, and Markiplier’s Iron Lung movie, it gives me hope as someone who plans to one day make my own movie.
What do you have in common with them? TH-cam? I wonder why self proclaimed hopeful filmmakers always want to do horror? At least the obnoxious ones. You never hear the version where they want to make a biopic or a period piece or a thoughtful drama…its always horror. Its a rhetorical question. We all know the answer.
I have been watching you since 2013, Jeremy and you are hands down, my favorite reviewer on TH-cam and nothing will change that. Only because you gave this movie an Awesometacular rating. I went to watch this movie in the cinema, but I did not enjoy the movie as I thought I would. A few scenes were very cool. But I found the movie to be a bit boring. It's just my viewpoint and I still will continue to watch you and trust your reviews.
The best horror movie I seen since Hereditary and I can’t believe two wild TH-camrs who never directed anything before made such a good movie on their debut film
I’ve been saying this for quite a few years now. Indie is where most of the talent is going. The indie music, indie films, and indie games I’ve seen have been incredible.
Funny, I only trust YOUR reviews. Each time you've reviewed a movie, I've thought I'll go see it anyway to see what I think, and you're ALWAYS SPOT ON! If you recommend a movie....I see it. If you say it's a movie to avoid....I won't see it or even stream it. Well done. You've got a fan in me here sir 😊
Saw the movie yesterday. Thought it was absolutely fantastic! Not only was it scary and intriguing, but it was also surprisingly funny. And that ending is the most gasp-worthy of the year.
the moment the hand turned into the a24 logo in the trailer, i knew this movie wouldn’t disappoint also, just love how original this whole film felt. the disturbing imagery and unnerving atmosphere this film leaves you with is something i wish more horror films would go for. the jumpscare/kill count can be fun, but usually that’s all those films have to offer. a scare you in the moment it happens with no lingering feelings of dread or unease. appreciate how this film was able to really sink it’s teeth into you and hold you there until the end
the only the jumpscare that got me was at the with the dad, it’s so obvious too, but because there were fee jumpscares and the tension was up, I jumped tf outta my seat
It's super exciting to see these boys get a chance like this and get so much praise for it. I just really hope they continue to be given chances after this, if Freddie Wong taught us anything, it's that big studios don't really care about youtubers even after they prove themselves more than capable of helming something of this caliber.
What I appreciate is that the movie completely works on its surface level. There are metaphors that also work (and work well) about drugs and social media. However, even on the surface, as a cautionary tale about lying spirits, our own desire to be deceived, and playing with things our ancestors knew not to mess with, it is very effective.
Perfect Timing, as I have been waiting for your review on this film. And it is now 9:07 Saturday morning and 'm going to the 10:30 show. And I was hoping to catch your review before seeing it. And now after reading your review, I feel confident that I will be getting my monies worth.

Not totally scary but the story and overall theme was real good. Although some points were predictable it was properly executed. The only problem I saw about the film was that it’s quite short. I hope they also delve more on the hand’s origin. Overall, it was a good watch.
As a horror lover, i LOVED this. As a physicist, I HATED it lol. like all horrors, my brain has an extremely difficult time separating the scientist in me vs the guy on his couch, eating junk food that just wants to watch a scary movie. that being said, that's a "me" problem, if you don't think like me, then this movie is amazing!!
Yeah as someone in healthcare I had a hard time separating some of the kills or "injuries" too. But that's a me problem that others won't have. Still loved the film though

Definitely a good change of direction and pace as your typical horror movie
I honestly wasn't a fan. I felt no one in the film was likable. Despite knowing there was a time limit they just let terrible things continue happening without really doing much to stop it. There was a couple of moments when they tried to remove the victim's hands from the object but then seem like they forget all about trying to help. That kid was smashing his head off tables and desks and it took his sister running in from another room to finally stop him. And they just let the dude make out with the dog. Like I said, no one was likable.
"I love the fact that the object, could be any object, for this film, it's a hand, the handshake is a universal friendly greeting, for most folks. Nope, felt very wrong here." I think a tangent was lost here but what I think he was gonna say "I love the fact that the object, any object can become terrifying." and that's also NOT a new thing in horror-in _The Haunting of Hill House_ something as simple as a hat became terrifying, and in _Oculus_ a mirror, in _The Conjuring_ it isn't an object per say, but the time of day that freaks people out (if you know you know), and in _Sinister_ simple reels are the scary object. The key to making a THING in horror scary, like time, or a mirror, or a hat or a house isn't the object itself. It's everyone around it. When you fear for the people around the object, you fear the object itself. Because then you understand what's at stake. When you understand the goals, the stakes, the urgency the characters are facing, suddenly a smile can become sinister, a door can be dangerous, the time can be terrifying, and a handshake can feel horrifying.
I really liked how they played with touch and intimacy in general. It really added to that feeling of wanting and needing connection that permeated the whole thing.
I plan on seeing this next week, the trailers looked great! I'm really glad it got the awesometacular rating and that it seems truly original and an effective horror piece. Looking forward to seeing it!
I had to come back to this review because I genuinely wasn’t to moved by the film as I watched it last night. While I enjoyed the cast to an extent, nothing about this movie really triggered a reaction that I was hoping to get. The movie pacing was a TAD bit on the slow side and the movie only has one scene that really makes you go “oh shit.” Certain elements came across as after thoughts and I’m not sure what “gross” outs moments are being referred to? Aside from that ONE scene (where homie kisses the dresser) this movie didn’t carry a lot of powerful imagery. Idk, 6/10. Not my favorite and didn’t understand the hype. To each their own.

## Film Review: I had the privilege of attending the premiere in Los Angeles, an exciting event teeming with anticipation. The film opened with an impeccably crafted scene, setting the tone for what was to follow. On the whole, the film delivered an impressive performance, although it could have benefited from a more nuanced approach to the possession scenes. Rather than resorting to the somewhat clichéd use of contact lenses and eye makeup, it might have been more compelling to see the actors themselves evoke the horror, lending a more grounded and unsettling reality to these scenes. The initial third of the film was exceptional, demonstrating a strong narrative and engaging character development. However, as the story progressed, it seemed to lose its footing. This was largely due to some characters making illogical decisions that detracted from the overall believability, and dialogue that lost its impact over time, thus leading to a slight dip in the storytelling. Nevertheless, this film solidly marks its presence in the genre and the excitement for what these filmmakers might produce next is palpable. I eagerly look forward to their future projects.
Got tickets for tonight and I couldn’t be more excited. I’ve been waiting for this one with anticipation since I saw the first trailer. I’m glad to hear it getting such high praise from reviewers. A24 kills it with their movie’s especially their horror movies.
@@naniv I thought it was great. I definitely wasn’t disappointed. I’m really glad that it managed to live up to the hype. I’m looking forward to seeing what the directors do next.
This is the first time I have ever disagreed with Jeremy. I took my wife to see this and we were both bored. The last 30 minutes is the only part of the movie that didn't feel like a slog. It just starts so slowly. I get that it's more about the main characters journey but I wasn't invested in her at all. The ending was good but not well executed.
This was great! A24 never disappoints. I love it when the film's willingness to show violence and grotesque imagery effectively makes you dread what certain scenes are building up to.
I'm never trusting the Internet again.... this movie is highly overrated. Every character was annoying, every decision made was a stupid one, no plot, no background. Nothing scary actually happened. Why is this getting so much hype???
I decided to watch on a whim and it was the time well spent! Even though it uses old tropes, it stays clear of the standard fare horror schlock territory. Took its time to build tension, took its time with its characters and there was quite a bit of body horror. More than I expected, tbh, but it was well integrated and effective!

Thats what i love about this, A24 didnt fund this, they just bought it, this is all rackracka bby
I wish I could unsee it 😭
I’ve been a fan of RackaRacka for I don’t even know how long, so to see Danny and Michael get this type of success is so amazing. I’m so proud of them!
Crazy just watched them recently. Luved the Ronald stuff😂
Same and I was genuinely tearing up at the youtube video they made about this movie. It's incredible not just for the them but for the actors in it aswell.
The fact we got this movie and Evil dead rise in the same year is insane glad to see people still doing horror justice.
EDR was shot with a primarily Aussie/NZ cast & crew too!
Evil rise dead was good also!!!!! And spooky saw that in theatre
I said it in a comment on the Haunted Mansion review, but I’ll say it again here: I’ve been super into horror ever since I overcame my fear back in 2017, but no movie has ever been able to scare me in a theater. This movie (no I’m not kidding, this actually happened) caused my Apple Watch to go nuts and sent me an alert that my heart rate was too consistently high. I absolutely loved this and hope it gets lots of recognition this year
Damn. If a heart monitor consistently going off doesn’t make me wanna see a horror movie, I don’t know what will.
@@morganbrown392 I saw it today. I'd definitely recommend.
@@morganbrown392I… don’t see that being the case for everyone. For me, it started off strong, but by the end I just hated the lead and wished for their demise.
@@619jasso I think you’re supposed to. In doing so you know where the story is heading but it’s not a bad thing. It’s makes you anticipate the lore expansion.
Mia slapping herself in the face before she did the hand in her room was the only thing that got me
Saw it today. That... is a very good movie.
@@batmanimal5993What wokeness?
@@uloola6156 right yeah if I need to explain your missus is a bloke and you haven't worked it out yet

Good luck on your movies! You can do it!
Wow, a directorial debut of TH-camrs getting a great review, especially as a horror? Love to hear it. Can’t wait to check it out!
I'm here to tell you I heard you see it this weekend, I paused this video, went and saw it, and here I am back. That was awesome
The best horror movie I seen since Hereditary and I can’t believe two wild TH-camrs who never directed anything before made such a good movie on their debut film
This had big Hereditary vibes!
definitely Hereditary vibes, especially with Mia's house, looks very familiar to the party scene before the car scene in Hereditary
Liked this better than Hereditary. Not As telegraphed or predictable
@@darrenkey207 I do too now in retrospect. This film also has a way better ending than Hereditary
@@JakeFLM you know what I mean, stop being a know it all
I’ve been saying this for quite a few years now. Indie is where most of the talent is going. The indie music, indie films, and indie games I’ve seen have been incredible.
We are heading towards a new 90s with all Blockbusters flopping and Indie movies making bank
Indie projects have less creative input from studios and executives, letting them tell the stories they want to tell within a certain parameter
I couldn’t agree with you more on every point you made 👌👌
That's what I'm saying!!!!!!!! Indies are pulling it off more!!!!!!!
Yea but you saying anything is not a reflection of anything other than your limited perspective. Its meaningless.
Just saw this last night and there was literally an audible collective gasp from the audience at the end of this film. Loved it
The movie was trash
I wouldn't call it gasp worthy. Once you know she's dead, that's really the only logical conclusion.

@@Dunnwealthadvisorit was terrible… I’m curious on what horror films the comment section likes if they love this 🗑️
Bro. When that second Jeremy popped in….was low key shook for a bit lol
the moment the hand turned into the a24 logo in the trailer, i knew this movie wouldn’t disappoint
also, just love how original this whole film felt. the disturbing imagery and unnerving atmosphere this film leaves you with is something i wish more horror films would go for. the jumpscare/kill count can be fun, but usually that’s all those films have to offer. a scare you in the moment it happens with no lingering feelings of dread or unease. appreciate how this film was able to really sink it’s teeth into you and hold you there until the end
Original? It felt like It Follows
the only the jumpscare that got me was at the with the dad, it’s so obvious too, but because there were fee jumpscares and the tension was up, I jumped tf outta my seat
It's super exciting to see these boys get a chance like this and get so much praise for it.
I just really hope they continue to be given chances after this, if Freddie Wong taught us anything, it's that big studios don't really care about youtubers even after they prove themselves more than capable of helming something of this caliber.
They have been given Street Fighter for their next project.
So happy to see the RackaRacka boys living the dream!
Anybody who hasn’t seen their videos is majorly missing out
Been watching those guys since Ronald Mcdonald Chicken Shop Massacre. So proud to be out supporting their movie they've came a long way😄❤
Meet the McDonalds was probably their most batshit insane video I have ever seen😭😭
@@gspida25 ik man😂 I'm glad they're not so restricted anymore by it and can adapt their craziness to film🙂
I luv the one where Ronalds sister eats at BK😂
What I appreciate is that the movie completely works on its surface level. There are metaphors that also work (and work well) about drugs and social media. However, even on the surface, as a cautionary tale about lying spirits, our own desire to be deceived, and playing with things our ancestors knew not to mess with, it is very effective.
Perfect Timing, as I have been waiting for your review on this film. And it is now 9:07 Saturday morning and 'm going to the 10:30 show. And I was hoping to catch your review before seeing it. And now after reading your review, I feel confident that I will be getting my monies worth.
An Hollywood movie made by RackaRacka is something I’ve wanted for so long and I’m so happy they hit it out of the park!
To witness Jeremy label a Horror Movie Awesometacular is just... Wow! 🎉🎉🎉
3 days of Jeremys reviews AMAZING
It’s crazy to think how I watched RackaRacka when I was a kid and now their goddamn directors of a highly critically acclaimed horror film
Awesometacular it was indeed!! I absolutely loved this movie. So refreshing to know that films like this in the horror industry cans till be made!
Saw it the other day.Raved about it to my friends.Similar to It Follows in terms of the horror angle. The points Jeremy makes in his review are on the money. He picked up on Miranda Ottos ""mum"" moment that is genuinely funny and the ""gross out moments"" in the movie are along the lines of the head out the car window scene from Hereditary.Highly recommend
Wow, extremely high praise for a directorial debut. I'm going to see this.
Weird to see Jeremy give a horror movie this rating. That alone is reason enough to give this a shot lol.
The idea of summoning demons as a party trick was brilliant!
I hate that I’m saying this, but I would love to see a sequel to this one. There’s so much potential for new stories and so many directions they could go
I would too, but I would rather see these lads go on to bigger and better things (even though this movie is amazing). They deserve all the glory
@@jacklafferty6654 oh 100%. I wanna see what else they’ve got in store, but maybe other small directors can take over sequels if that ever happens

Watched this on Thursday opening night on a whim and really enjoyed it! Great acting from the main character, and the movie was scary and unsettling without using overplayed tropes or constant jump scares.
So glad to see you giving props to Indie directors and films. So many other critics don't have the grace to shine a light on others & just continue to shill for their corporate overlords. Keep up with the great balanced critiques. I'll definitely check this out.
Had a chance to see the pre-screening as an AAA24 member and it was incredible
Jeremy glad you liked it! I can't remember horror images freaking me out this much since the first Sinister movie 😮
I think this is the first Awesometacular horror movie since IT. Almost six years. Crazy.

When I saw the trailer it didn’t catch my attention but with all the good reviews and now everything you said I want to check it out, I hope it could give me the willies. No lie, Jeremy whispering in Jeremy’s ear was kinda eerie but I was also intrigued 🤔😂
Hadn't heard of this movie, but I did a mystery movie night at Regal that showed this and it floored me. Perfect situation to watch it, with absolutely no idea what was coming. Was very engrossed the whole time
Absolutely loved it and it made me squirm which is unfathomable since I've seen a many horror movies but this one was different. A must watch!

Rare for a horror movie to be deemed AWESOMETACULAR! Definitely gonna check this out! ❤
Not totally scary but the story and overall theme was real good. Although some points were predictable it was properly executed. The only problem I saw about the film was that it’s quite short. I hope they also delve more on the hand’s origin. Overall, it was a good watch.
So tired of pong movies, why should it be longer??
As a horror lover, i LOVED this. As a physicist, I HATED it lol. like all horrors, my brain has an extremely difficult time separating the scientist in me vs the guy on his couch, eating junk food that just wants to watch a scary movie.
that being said, that's a "me" problem, if you don't think like me, then this movie is amazing!!
Yeah as someone in healthcare I had a hard time separating some of the kills or "injuries" too. But that's a me problem that others won't have. Still loved the film though
You mean physician? Doubt you actually are if you can't even spell your "profession".
I was not a fan of this movie. Love Racka Racka and am proud of them for making a movie but that being said I'm not gonna support something I didn't like. Great idea bad execution, and the gore was disturbing imo.
I never realized that the directors are TH-camrs until you mentioned it here, and then it dawned upon me...I've actually seen their stuff before. Particulary the amazing Nerf battle video from almost a decade ago. I have completely forgotten about it and made me respect Talk to Me even more because they've truly come a long way
I’ve been looking forward to this review 👏🏽
Very rewarding review...always nice to hear about a fresh new take on an old genre. Inspires the jaded audience to venture out to see something new. The critique gave me just enough spark to be curious, but hopeful as well. Thanks for the overview....you always seem to have a very genuine slant on the movie industry's mood swings. Kudos!

Two questions: Is the imagery as scary as Hereditary or Midsommar? It took me a year to stop thinking about Hereditary and I lost my appetite watch Midsommar.

@@matthewrichardson8162there are a couple of scenes which are equal to the attic scene and midsommar cliff jump in terms of imagery imo
@@matthewrichardson8162id say it was very comparable to hereditary but more horror tropey and not as dark and cult like as hereditary. Definitely a good change of direction and pace as your typical horror movie
Seeing it next weekend. So happy you enjoyed it, youre the only critique I trust these days 😂
It’s insane to me this dude loved talk to me so much and not hereditary. Hereditary is worlds better in every way not even close.
Makes me happy seeing the racka boys elevating their creativity into a full on movie.
I've been subbed to RackaRacka for years. I knew it would only be a matter of time before they hit it big. So happy for those guys.
"I love the fact that the object, could be any object, for this film, it's a hand, the handshake is a universal friendly greeting, for most folks. Nope, felt very wrong here."
I think a tangent was lost here but what I think he was gonna say "I love the fact that the object, any object can become terrifying." and that's also NOT a new thing in horror-in _The Haunting of Hill House_ something as simple as a hat became terrifying, and in _Oculus_ a mirror, in _The Conjuring_ it isn't an object per say, but the time of day that freaks people out (if you know you know), and in _Sinister_ simple reels are the scary object.
Haunting of the Bad Dragon Dildo
I really liked how they played with touch and intimacy in general. It really added to that feeling of wanting and needing connection that permeated the whole thing.
I plan on seeing this next week, the trailers looked great! I'm really glad it got the awesometacular rating and that it seems truly original and an effective horror piece. Looking forward to seeing it!
I guess you could say this movie... single-handedly took over the box office. 😎
Two hands up
It’s so cool that TH-camrs created this movie
Just saw it this afternoon. Absolutely fantastic. Won’t be sleeping with my feet out of the covers again
Same here. Had to watch it at double speed to finish it
Genuinely brought me to tears when I found out Danny and Michael were making a feature. I grew up with these dudes and I always loved how they’re videos looked and were executed and I just know this movie is gonna kick ass. Love you RackaRacka!!
Wow! Rackracka's video about Red Bull was the first TH-cam video that gave me an asthma fit from laughing! Happy for them!😊
I hope A24 gets the respect they deserve after this. Their line of movies they've created/produced/distributed have been incredible movies. Especially from their horror genres.
Been watching Michael and Danny since I was what 11. Nearly 10 years now, they’ve come such a long way from just fucking around with a camera to now this. So proud of my Aussie boys
Been watching their channel since I was in elementary school, it’s been two years since I’ve graduated and I’ve too transitioned from YT into filmmaking, it’s mad inspiring seeing their journey
My mind is going a million miles an hour trying to comprehend the RACKARACKA twins making this amazing horror movie. Jordan Peele I can understand but RACKARACKA WHAT!?
## Film Review:
I had the privilege of attending the premiere in Los Angeles, an exciting event teeming with anticipation.
What did u think
@@naniv I thought it was great. I definitely wasn’t disappointed. I’m really glad that it managed to live up to the hype. I’m looking forward to seeing what the directors do next.
You actually look at your comments unlike other big movie TH-cam critics. Thanks for the review, movie is fantastic.
RackaRacka was one of the first youtubers i ever watched, and also gives me Aussie pride
This was great! A24 never disappoints. I love it when the film's willingness to show violence and grotesque imagery effectively makes you dread what certain scenes are building up to.
I’m going to eat xx this tomorrow and I can’t wait ! The trailer looks amazing! Super excited !
I'm never trusting the Internet again.... this movie is highly overrated. Every character was annoying, every decision made was a stupid one, no plot, no background. Nothing scary actually happened. Why is this getting so much hype???
God knows. The movie annoyed me. Where is the good parts in this? The dumbest set of teenagers ever in the movie. Totally unbelievable shit
That outro was crisp and nostalgic. freakin niceee!
I decided to watch on a whim and it was the time well spent! Even though it uses old tropes, it stays clear of the standard fare horror schlock territory. Took its time to build tension, took its time with its characters and there was quite a bit of body horror. More than I expected, tbh, but it was well integrated and effective!
I think this is the first horror movie Jeremy rated as Awesometacular 😱😱😱
