Great Video... She sounds the Bollox.. Yeah, keep tinkering.. After all this work she deserves to be all singing and dancing at 150-160bhp at the expense of some pistons,,, I am certain you will enjoy the rewards and be given a huge smile factor for your efforts.. Keep up the good work chaps. Great Channel.
Never seen anyone do a dyno video this informative and interesting. Great video and series in general. Keep it up guys, the subscribers will multiply in no time!
Lovely Escort! in the 70s my dad had a special Mk. 1 Escort Mexico that was specially prepared by FOrd RS(fitted with a factory Roll cage, and some other bits). My Dad had at one point in time fitted the Tecalemit Jackson Mechanical Fuel Injection Kit on it! I wish he still had that car today!
back in 70 s 80s 1600 used to get 125 - 130 bhp and doing tappets almost all cars was rule of 9 ie 1 down do 8 2 down do 7 except hillman avenger tiger loving the videos boys
Ha ha that white board section at the beginning was friggin hilarious I was belly laughing 😂 , glad that engine has come together dudes thank goodness for that and so exciting to see it being driven and tuned it’s been a fabulous journey this car and what a beautiful specimen it now is well done to you both ….I’m still respectfully jealous in a nice way of course 😜👏👏
No mate you dont talk too much the way you talk is calm and exactly how it works /how to fix please dont ever think that im sure many off your followers would agree that you are spot on i could easliy be sat in a classroom and understand👍👍👍👍
Cool to see .never seen such. and didn't know how much went in to getting it right. I must off wasted lots of horses no setting it right lol Hope to see yous soon 👍👍👍😜🏴🦕🦄😁🤞✌
You have made an absolutely fabulous job of the old girl, the sound of the Webers reminded me of the Escort Twin Cam I used to own years ago. Really enjoyed the Dyno session - Great Job all round 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👏🏻
Another great video Paul & Keith, great explanation about the rolling road process, at 15.30……..it’s like watching a loved one have open heart surgery 😬 remember it well with one of my Escorts many years ago. 😂
When you look at the garage, you don't believe that such a great job can be done. You can really see that the man knows what he is doing with dedication and love. It needs more of such good people. 160 hp are guaranteed to feel better in the light "small" Escort than 500 in a new GT3 ;-)
If you think that was loud, go and listen to a bike on a dyno screaming at 15k, great video, nice to see you got the head sorted, can't wait for the next challenge
Great video gents. 👍 I agree with the other comments, best dyno video shown thus far. Yeah, like you said 9.7 something is way to low, almost suitable for some forced induction. I but need not tell you guys that. I would stick a set of 1300 or 1100 pistons in there. Top men.👌 From S.A
Great job on sorting out the engine leaks. thanks for explaining to us what's going on whilst at the tuning shop. Pity it did not end up with the required boost. Thanks again.👍
Another quality video guys. Really enjoyed. Car looking and sounding amazing. Loved the dyno runs. Top bloke. Here's to extracting more power. Keep up the good work. Thank you both. Brilliant.
well, the seats stayed in... when i was a lad, mk2 escorts used the rule-of-nine for their tappets [kent], + fiesta [valencia] used the on-the rock . tappets were set 4 thou loose for their first startup, + after half hour running, [stationary, with frequent gentle rev-ups], heads re-torqued, tappets set properly, then gentle run out. it wasnt till stretch head bolts came out that retorquing was put away [cvh] that car does look nice...
So chuffed for you guys! Great to see it running right. I was amazed the first time I had carbs set up on a rolling road. I used to take my Mini to Sam Griffiths (very sadly RIP) who was just down the road from you guys in Suckley; he got +15-20bhp out of something that had already been set up by a very decent mechanic with a gas analyser. Cheers for another great video
Fantastic!! first time ive ever seen a full explanation of how a dyno run works and what is needed to improve numbers, thanks for the lesson fella's , I'm sure there are 15 more horses to go after, engine sounded sweet. Cheers
Good vid', got a soft spot for the old FORDs, even though I'm a Chevette chap. minor correction, it's (swept volume + unswept)/unswept, so the swept would be 8.75 times the combustion chamber volume with a 9.75 : 1 compression ratio. It gets confusing with the Heron/bowl in piston design, and even worse if you do the milled LOTUS piston conversion where the piston top is flat and the "combustion chamber" is formed by having the piston deck clearance much higher than normal, but the equation is still the same. I don't know if this is still done as, while it gives excellent breathing for power, the lack of quench means the fuel-air mixing is terrible at part throttle and/or lower rpm. Least ways, with carbies is is, with the improved atomisation of injection, it may be less of an issue. For the engine spec', that's a very good output - reminds me of the old thing with every 'modified' Kend having "135 hp".
Hello both, I had a very similar set up back in 1974 using an eight valve cross flow head but with only a twin-choke down draft Weber and a fast road “yellow” Piper Cam. (I think we only got about 95bhp at the flywheel back then but it was still fun to drive on the road!) I’ve really enjoyed this Mk1 Escort build, many thanks and well done lads!👍
Sound the absolute Mutts Nuts. Hope to see more videos as you improve on the cars performance. Been a brilliant series on this car from Rust bucket to total Gem. Well done on the work so far.
That was really interesting that Dave fella sure knows his stuff well done..in much better place than last week .. cheers lads look forward to t the mk2 getting finished…….yo both got a be pleased with the result 🏴👍🔩😎
Loved watching the build of this car and would be great to see another Escort done, where could I get those custom Bonnet hinges from? Thanks guys, take care.
Another great video and all the information about what was found and what was done about it is really educational. The car is a credit to you both. Good to see you rubbing one out on the whiteboard, too.
It’s perfect love it more than the RS2000 badge I put on my 1100 oh yeah l had too pull away slowly it was mint in Daytona yellow & gave the £15 badge away when I sold the car
Great video, very informative seeing the rolling road set up process. Great inspiration for me as I had literally just pulled the 1.3 out my 73 4 door ready to drop in a 1.6. 👌
Keep the rear diff. It'll be a right giggle up to about 90 and then you'll run out of steam :) Oh, and find a spare gearbox or two. I went through quite a few in my time, the 4 speed is not the strongest. I hope you have great fun with your Escort, they're a great little car :)
Even before the tune you can see the rear brake caliper changing position under load because the torque load through the axle is twisting the leaf springs, more power will mean you'll need to tune the suspension too.
The dogs.
Thumbs up.
What a thing of beauty
that is a real beauty. I want it.
Excellent.
Great vid lads, car is stunning
Excellent video and great info 👍
Came out nice mate
Thanks buddy 👍

I had a 1974 celica with the t2 engine, bored to 1750 with high comp pistons , cam and head work. On bike carbs. Made 130 bhp. I was well pleased
Nothing sounds better than a set of webber's or dellorto's when they come on song

Even before the tune you can see the rear brake caliper changing position under load because the torque load through the axle is twisting the leaf springs, more power will mean you'll need to tune the suspension too.
Tarmac escorts had single leaves so the axle would roll under power to help eliminate wheelspin :) Clever boffins at Ford back in the day :)
Been waiting for this. I did have a checky vid off dad that I kept to myself aha so happy for you now its all running mate 😃💙

Worth every penny to get it set up right - the engine will last much longer set up correctly. That was a nice torque curve on that, enjoy the car!!
I couldn’t believe that the difference between 120 jets and 130’s is about 0.2mm wider hole. Amazing the difference it gives.
