Wife and I have found a house we like there in Athens,Tn. This video was much appreciated and welcoming as well. Can't wait to get over that way as were in Cookeville right now.
My wife and I have lived a little closer to Cleveland and Chattanooga the past eight years with no complaints to speak of however we are currently leaning towards looking for more land so Athens, Sweetwater and Loudon are all appealing so it is nice to see reviews on these areas.
I think Athens is okay if you like small, quite and not-much-going-on towns. To me it was way too boring, nothing to do, nowhere to go, not much walkability, poor architecture, except for few nice buildings in downtown. But generally downtown itself is not very well kept, in my opinion. If I had to choose back then, I would rather live in Cleveland or Maryville. It's nicer there. Additionally, there were constant theft in our neighborhood (it was not a bad part of town), so I don't think it's super safe there. Yes, you're in between Knoxville and Chattanooga, and in this video he says it's convenient, but I rather think it's equally far from everywhere and rather inconvenient. Of course, there were advantages about living there, too, but to me the disadvantages prevailed much more.
No it’s not in middle Tennessee and west where you see the tornado’s are more frequent. It is about 45 miles or so southwest of Knoxville just off I-75. You can have tornadoes anywhere but it is not a common occurrence.

Did you already buy a house in Athens?
