    It feels like when Sybil died the bridge that kept Edith and Mary connected broke, she was the peace keeper.

      They eventually form their own bridge, which is what they needed all along for it to be a stable one.

    If Pamuk hadn’t come along on the trip, Mary might have shown enough interest in Evelyn to receive a proposal. She hadn’t fallen in love with Matthew by this point.

    Pamuk nearly pushing Mary to the floor in the drawing room, later forcing himself into a her private chambers, then advancing towards Mary without her consent. In my opinion, this is harassment and assault. If I were Lady Mary, I would just say that I was attacked in my own bedroom by a man I barely knew. Nothing scandalous about that....

    • @angelicasmodel
      @angelicasmodel หลายเดือนก่อน +32

      You are absolutely right, but a lot of people still blame women for their own assault unforgettably. I can understand why Mary thinks she has no options.

      I may be an old codger, but to me there is a difference between seduction and assault, though the former may not be a particularly nice thing to do.

      Lady Mary would have still suffered substantial damage to her reputation and social standing. Look at how Anna hid that she was r4ped from even her dearest and closest for fear that she would suffer even more. Victim blaming has only recently been looked down on.

    I wish someone would do a video on the clocks of Downton Abbey! Every room has at least one clock, and the ticking in the background adds so much to the individual character of the room that it's in. Like a heartbeat -- the clock in Lady Mary's room has a frantic, high-pitched ticking that is so appropriate for the desperation of the scene just before they move Pamuk!

    Why does NOBODY knock before entering someone's room?? Why does NOBODY lock their doors?
    The only time I saw a door locked was in the A New Era movie. The actress locked her door.
    So we know the bedroom doors must have locks on them.

    What's interesting is this scenario is baded on Actual events. Jullian Fellowes talks about it in early interviews about the show. The exact details are sparred to protect bith the innocent and the guilty. What's worse is that this scandal haunts Mary throughout the entire series. (In some form or fashion.)

    At an era when Europeans found it difficult to marry somebody from a different sect of Christianity, the thought of a British woman consorting with a Muslim man was indeed bold, if not outrageous. This particular scene was aired around 2011, but if shown in present day, I doubt the British audience will find it as acceptable as they did in those days, especially after the nationwide anti-Muslim violence in UK this year.
