BTW.. MEGA problem. is the tunnel boom effect, ie contained aerodynamic drag. So these structures have that in mind. In Japan.. they just viaduct or tunnel the whole lot so grade seperated and everything

IIRC HS2 tunnel dimensions and "porous portal" have been designed to alleviate any tunnel boom.
