    I love the way it's right next to the existing line. I live near Southam and 5 or 6 years in and not a metre of track laid from what I can see. It's ironic really that HS2 have constructed more miles of enabling roads than the total length of track to be laid.

      @@bobthegreat297 .. nope, because when motorways were built, they enabled people & trade to get from A to B in relatively quick times. Research shows that even if HS2 had been built in full, traffic on the M40 & M1 would reduce by less than 1% & it would have ZERO effect on domestic flights. The blatant corruption within HS2 Ltd that's recently been exposed, reveals that senior management used misleading projections & "facts" (commonly known as lies), to ensure that billions of pounds kept flowing into the project. It's nothing but fraud on a gigantic scale & will ultimately result in a public enquiry. They've been fooling the public & the government since day one of this massive white elephant & sadly, all the HS2 fanboys have fallen for their lies hook, line & sinker 😉

    This is one of the many locations where, under funding and over-spend pressures, HS2 and DfT deemed it less costly to pause works here (for the moment) than continue. Once a better grasp of costings are understood and approved, works will continue. There will be a reduction of parallel works, in favour of a more serial approach, reducing capital and manpower resources at any given time but at the expense of delivery dates. One of the problems with this pause is that 'temporary' local route closures and diversion will remain far longer than initially forecast.

    • @41istair
      @41istair 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The NAO - National Audit Office issued a report last month: Report - Value for money HS2: update following cancellation of Phase 2 Date: 23 Jul 2024 "In October 2023, the government announced significant changes to the HS2 programme, including the cancellation of Phase 2 of the railway from the West Midlands to Manchester, and a smaller HS2 station in London Euston. The government took these decisions due to increasing costs of Phase 1, repeated delays to the schedule and changing patterns of travel since the COVID-19 pandemic, which it considered to have weakened the case for HS2." [...] "As soon as government announced plans to cancel Phase 2, DfT and HS2 Ltd started work to understand and respond to immediate risks to value for money. They established what decisions were needed on the scope of Phase 1 to minimise unnecessary costs and established plans to decommission Phase 2 sites." [...] "The government’s decision to cancel Phase 2 created uncertainties in a range of complex areas, particularly as HS2 Ltd and other rail organisations had not been involved with the decision." [..] "After the announcement, DfT worked with HS2 Ltd and others to establish a critical path and identify options by the end of 2023 to allow for informed decision-making on different actions and trade-offs. DfT’s general principle is to stop work where it is no longer needed for Phase 1 unless it would cost more to stop or change plans. " [...] "HS2 Ltd has established a new role of Chief Railway Officer, with responsibility for integration and focusing programme decisions on how to best deliver the whole Phase 1 railway, rather than individual component projects. HS2 Ltd also needed to reestablish its senior leadership following the departure of its Chief Executive in September 2023 and the interim appointment of an Executive Chair." [...] "rior to the October 2023 decisions, HS2 Ltd estimated that the total costs of Phase 1 would be £49 billion to £57 billion, while DfT estimated a cost to complete of £45 billion to £54 billion. Both estimates are above the current funding envelope of £44.6 billion (all 2019 prices), and HS2 Ltd has since identified cost pressures which will increase their estimated range further." [..] "DfT and HS2 Ltd should agree on the final cost of Phase 1 before they agree with HM Treasury a revised funding envelope for the HS2 programme, as well as establish revised financial controls, including an approach to annual funding beyond 2024-25 and the programme’s overall contingency. " [...] "An important element of this plan is for HS2 Ltd to renegotiate its four main construction contracts to better incentivise cost control and achieve greater certainty on costs. However, DfT and HS2 Ltd acknowledge that successfully renegotiating major contracts that are already in progress will not be straightforward"

      @TrevorWilliams-fq8mg 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @41istair, That's a very interesting synopsis. But does it mean the entire project is going to suffer some sort of a cutback ? Coming from the construction industry (now retired) I can't see how the existing construction contracts can be renegotiated unless 80 to 90 % of the scope of works can be defined leaving the contractors to take a risk on the outstanding 10 to 20%. I'm not sure the project has reached that stage yet so it is likely things will continue as they are with no known end cost or date.

    All this to put two rail tracks down and one train every half hour with NO FREIGHT and ticket prices most could not afford to clip an hour off current journey times? And, the cost? Started at £36 BILLION and is now well over £150 BILLION and rising. When will it have its first train? Whenever it seems, no one seems to know exactly. The original timing was to be 2017 to 2026 with every modern piece of equipment to achieve this. The London to Birmingham Railway was built in the mid 1800's by 20,000 men, shovels, barrows, mostly mules and horse drawn wagons, took just 5years to build. It cost £5.5 MILLION raised by PRIVATE ENTERPRISE FINANCE and took passengers and freight. This HS2 is a flagrant waste of TAXPAYER's money.

    Wow when I first glanced at this video I initially thought wow at last someone has finally laid some track for HS2, but then realised I was mistaken as it was a new bridge over a victorian railway, how amiss I am to think that HS2 is supposed to be a new railway but someone has forgotten to lay any track. This whole thing is some civil engineering fiasco where they are more interested in destroying the landscape with haul roads and work sites than of laying down the railway that all this money is meant for.

At around 2:15 the drone follows the route over the last of the viaduct piers, Truggist Lane and onto the Beechwood Embankment. 2:55 we can see where the embankment will rise up to the Carol Green Rail Underbridge, there is a retaining wall built here as well. 3:05 we can under the retaining wall the Lanscombe culvert 3:45 the Beechwood Embankment continues to the southeast of the Carol Green Rail Underbridge with another retaining wall. This shows the B4113 Stoneleigh Road Green Overbridge near Stoneleigh (Business) Park. The green bridge is wider than the road that will go over it so it will probably have some landscaping and allow humans and animals to cross the HS2 tracks without having to be too close to the road traffic on the bridge. According to the plans available on the gov.uk website there's also going to be a new roundabout south of the bridge with an exit into the business park.
