- In 2 years Oasis released 2 of the most iconic British albums ever Definitely Maybe and Morning Glory, broke a world record on Knebworth and basically became The Beatles of the 90s. This video essay is about how Liam and Noel Gallagher made that happen and their history. Enjoy! Also please don't put your life in the hands of a rock and roll band lol

The Beatles were influential, Oasis were influenced.
They can’t be both?
@@GregoryMcFalcon not in this case, no. Oasis didn't invent anything , they just rehashed rock.
@@corailgris when it comes to art, everyone is influenced by loads of other creators - you think the Beatles weren’t influenced by anyone else at all?
@@GregoryMcFalcon c'mon man you cannot be serious comparing Oasis to The Beatles. Oasis are talented while The Beatles are geniuses.
Yea basically

Was that your Masterplan
The Verve could use a spotlight, their music isn’t appreciated enough
Agreed, an analysis of Urban Hymns would be Awesome
Yes, I just want to cover some different eras too so I don't just get stuck on Britpop
They never did many great songs
The verve were always better.... Oasis really just isn't that good... Songwriting or otherwise
The verve however were amazing... Got into them when nobody heard of them... Then they came out with bittersweet love song.... Huge hit..
Funny story my wife at the time always thought it was an oasis song... I bought the CD for her and wrote Oasis on the front of it... She got a big laugh out of that.

Good on ya mate! Rome wasn't made in a day!
They sold 10 million records in the US. Morning Glory peaked at #4, Be Here Now at #2 & Dig Out Your Soul at #5 on The Billboard 200. First 3 albums went Platinum too. Definitely a decent enough impact.
Yea of course, they just weren't getting back to back number 1 albums like in the UK but that doesn't mean they weren't big
Oasis sold a shit load of records in the US. And if they had have played the game more (sucked more corporate dick) then they probably would have sold 10 times as much over there. Liam & Noel were absolute wild cards in the 90s, the US public just wouldn’t get it. Their loss 🤷🏻♂️
@@emmetlynch14I love Oasis and I’m from the US but your comment is kind of lame. It wasn’t about bowing to corporations…it’s the simple fact that from Be Here Now onward their albums declined in quality.
I hate this bullshit notion (mainly from the British press sadly) thag they didn't crack America when they cracked it open wide and what people don't realize is Morning Glory has sold more than any Coldplay album, yet Coldplay are apparently so successful in the States. I think Oasis have sold over 5 million copies in the US alone, and another 7 million copies ontop of this of their back catalogue. Some disaster that is 😂
@@darrenthomas7402 I'm American and Oasis is a non-entity in the US. They did not crack America "open wide." After the hype proved to be just hype, they couldn't give their records away here. Their music isn't played on American radio and they aren't discussed by anyone. The Brits pathetically keep trying to hype this mediocre guitar band as some second coming of the Beatles but they don't even come close. All of their songs are just a tuneless wall of guitar strumming over nasally, whiny singing.
I think the beatle of the 90s should be radiohead, i mean apart from their 1st album, the second(the bends) and the third(ok computer) are a hugh step up from their music production
Dude, this video was a masterpiece. Keep at it I'm keen to see what what videos you make next. 🤩
Thanks a lot man, I'm trying to improve on every video
I’ve been saying this for about 30 years! Here in the UK (& Ireland) they were literally the new Beatles, still to this day to many people in this part of the world they are bigger than The Beatles, Liam is selling out Knebworth on his own without Noel 🤟🇬🇧🎸🎵
I wanna go and see Liam live this summer if I can get enough money to go to UK
Definitely Maybe is the GOAT and Masterplan is the most epic B-sides album ever put together. I'm not sure an Oasis reunion would be the same, but I hope they can make up as brothers at least. Life's too short to hate. Don't look back in anger boys.
Amazing video and the midi versions of the songs are amazing as well
thank you thank you
Hi, great video, what was the gig at the end with Liam sitting down while Noel sings the outro from Slideaway ?
iTunes Festival 2009
awesome video, keep it up

Interesting that Oasis to this very day are still very popular in japan and are quite influential there as well.
Japan has some good taste
@@Krysiss not only that, japan has always greeted alternative music with open arms, bands like Ride and Cocteau Twins had shows that sold out there in minutes and maybe even a stadium there as well, unlike in america.
Yeah It's weird
They also style themselves like Our Generation and Culture and How We Grew Up
90s bands that could be good to cover here: Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots, Garbage.
Good work!
Owen Morris credited a lot of managing to capture their live sound in the mix to, also 'brickwalling,' a technique used to make the record come on the jukebox loud as f@¢k, but also to "turning Noel down in the mix, & turning Bonehead up."
And I gotta agree. The definitive live sound of Oasis - strictly for me, of course - is Earl's Court '95... And Bonehead can be heard, loud & proud, in the mix... With Guigsy even being turned up a bit.
thats cool af
hey man loved your blur and sopranos vid, you should do arctic monkeys at least talking about their early days before the album AM
It's definitely on the list, them and The Libertines too
I really enjoyed their final album, Dig Out Your Soul. Best album since Morning Glory
Oasis for me are the greatest band, they took 2 things, and made it into 1 excellent sound, they took passion for music, and a working class life, and made it into definitely maybe, if you don’t understand the lyrics, then it wasn’t written for you, the music to me is as relatable as it gets for the reason that it’s from the working class people of England to the working class people England
same, i love them

thank you!!
definitely maybe is also my favorite oasis album! i discovered it when i was 14 via tumblr and it introduced me to rock music, so it holds a special place in my heart. my favorite song by them is "listen up" though. i can't believe how it didn't make it in the album, it's so good!
Listen Up is sooo good
Great video mate 👍
Thanks 💪
I would like you to write about one of our Greatest British Rock and Pop Acts; XTC.
Also I think OMD ( Orchestral Movenuveres in the Dark) and James could do with a spotlight video made about them as well.
I'll look into them
Sorry for the spelling mistake.
Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark.
Oasis were def the biggest and most successful British guitar band since the Beatles, not just 90's. No rock band were ever on the front pages of the papers for so long as them, who broke all the records going including fastest selling debut album, fastest selling album EVER, biggest audience ever for a concert, 8 number 1 singles in the UK, number 1 records all over the world from Canada to Israel, to Japan to Australia, screaming fans at airports, huge influence on youth culture, mad tabloid frenzies.... i could go on
Definitely should cover The Stone Roses.
They're so underrated outside of UK
@@Krysiss i agree
@@Krysiss yeah 1000% definitely needs some coverage
@@KrysissYet they carved out such a strong legacy on the strength of one album.

'' Did your favorite bands have the peak of their careers before you were even born?''
Erm, NO ?
lol old man
Be Here Now favourite album, despite what anyone says it still sold over 6 million more than any band or artist would sell today.
Over 8m by the end of 1998
Krysis...how about some Ned's, Carter USM, and Dodgy?
I don't know who they are but I can look into them
@@Krysiss Right on. Keep up the good work.
Did You change The name of The vídeo?
yea, just testing stuff
I don't see them getting back together. The personalities are too strong, and they're both doing so well without each other. Noel has proven he doesn't need Liam, and Liam has proven he doesn't need Noel. Liam still seems like he would welcome a reunion, Noel doesn't seem interested at all. Whatever, the music lives on.
me neither tbh, or even if they do get back together they will never be as as they were in the 90s
Noel would let himself be a feast for maggots before sharing a stage with Liam again. They simply need to go back to being brothers.
when I was young I thought the song, Songbird- by oasis was a beatles song by John Lennon.
close enough
Krysis, how are u doing.
Do you think Oasis were greater than Nirvana in the 90's?
I don't want to sound like a politician but I hate comparing bands lmao, they were both great
Different genres. Different worlds.
Nirvana were definitely far more original in their songwriting, though … if that means anything to you.
@@kierenmoore3236 I am the alt generation and grew up in the UK
There can be a GREAT overlap
@@aotctd You have nothing to do with how music genres are defined. Cute of you to think so, tho’.
Heathen Chemistry got me into Oasis, so yeah, I'll join up the album defenders.
fair enough
Like most music groups, i think how they got signed is part mythical and part false. Im sure Johnny Marr tipped off Alan Mcghee, or one of his associates, to have a look at the band when they were performing in Scotland. The story is apparently Alan McGhee used to date one of the girls in the band they shared the bill with. But if tour ex boyfriend was a music executive wouldn't the girls at least mentioned it to Oasis and let them know they have industry contacts? I just find it hard to believe it was a completely random occurence. Im sure Johnny Marr had a bigger role in them being signed than people realise.
Maybe but that's the story the band tells and I can't really go back in time to prove them wrong lol
the us has the best taste of music though, also they weren’t the next beatles lol, love the video.
they maybe weren't the next beatles but the us definitely does not have the best taste in music
They were a Beatles tribute act, and also robbed T-Rex (Stand by Me).

thanksss
Noel looks younger off drugs @25;15.
the camera takes off 10 years
I really dont care if they reunite or not. I am not the least interested in seeing old versions of bands uniting and playing. It never does it for me. The energy and the vitality is gone
yea honestly, there's no way they'll be as good as they were in the 90s but at least they'd be getting that bag ig
jschlatt cameo was not expected lmao
he is the 9/11 man
DOYS is loved
How about doing one on Peter Hook versus New Order? All the bickering, Hooks statements to the British press, his autibiography and the legal messes.
That actually sounds interesting, how can I look more into that?
@@Krysiss I'd check out Peter Hook's book 'Substance- Inside New Order ' and 'Chapter And Verse- New Order, Joy Division And Me' by Benard Sumner. Both are very good books.
@@michaelwilson2340 Alright, thank you
They obviously love The Beatles but when they started the Sex Pistols, Stone Roses, Slade and Bowie were huge influences. Listen to Fade Away. Its Punk Rock all the way.
Yea I the punk influences are really obvious on Definitely Maybe but they got caught up on the whole Britpop thing
And Then Comes Green Day, The Beatles Of The 2000s (Atleast That's What I Think They Is), But Got Their Downfall And Rise And Downfall And Rise Again After Their Stupid Trilogy Album & Father Of All
Personally…….. Blur was better.
You are right though here in America, we just didn't care....
They are not the Beatles.. The Beatles were more than ticket sales... Or album sales
And to be honest, their songs just do not compare.... Never did
They were just some kind of Pop hype
Who cares what America thinks of OUR music. America isn’t the centre of the universe you know! 🤦🙄
everyone says oasis is overrated but they arent. ye defintely maybes way better than morning glory
they're amazing
Blur's better anyway

1990s music was a decade of its own
When 1990s was over oasis was over, i was surprised they lasted as long into the new century as they did. I personally did not hear a song of theres after 1998
The 1990s was a decade all of itself, and the music in that decade was the last real decade of music
Todays music is for druggies populations, and singers off there heads smoking rubbish, and making music for people who smoke rubbish.
There is no energy to music this century, what ever it was that music stars used to do, they simply do not do anymore.
Without nirvana all these bands would of not been mainstream
Reason oasis was over this century, was they were on 1990s wave of energy that nirvana created, and then it just went away, and no band ever had made that new energy wave again
Nirvana was last time a new energy came into music, and since then nothing.
This century music is just boring.
You think Nirvana and Oasis weren't druggies?
To date The Beatles have sold 2.3 billion units. Oasis have sold 65 million. Enough said.
Well nobody can compare to The Beatles
Heathen Chemistry is the best Oasis Album in The 2000`s
And Don`t Beleive The Truth is pure shite!
you're lying to yourself Maggi
Heathen Chemistry has great singles. The first half of that album is up there with their finest work. The rest of the tracks feel like B-sides though. The Truth is well rounded and consistent. Keep The Dream Alive is arguably their most under rated track.
nirvana is the beatles of the 90s
Nah
Ive never felt Oasis to be genuine, so the music as good as it probably is, with that thought in mind also sounds disingenuous. Unfortunately the conceited nature of the Gallagher's was all over the media so I never bothered listening to the music. Worst of all they put other bands down to elevate their own perceived position. I hoped by watching your presentation I'd find a bit of sympathy and maybe leverage to listen to their albums. But to date i see no redeemable qualities. Your work is good I look forward to more.
I do think them putting other bands down is immature and I disliked them at first too for that very reason, but to me Definitely Maybe and Noel's work in the 90s definitely feels like it came from his heart. I wish they did focus more on the music and less on the press but that's the 90s for you, everyone was trying to be a diva.
It’s not that deep. Just listen to the albums
@@Krysiss A definite bias that i have lumped the brothers together, I'll certainly listen as you advise, many thanks.

oasis was sucuessfull only bcs nel was bisexual thats how the things go
They became the Status Quo of the '90s. Neither Liam or Noel understand The Beatles.
