@@briancunningham_21 5 years later I'm not very proud of that comment. In other news these things look like old relics now don't they? With all these fancy new electric cars coming out.
I believe that the manual transmission is now available in the Mazda 6 Touring, also. If you try to build a 6 Touring on Mazda's website, you can select the 6-speed manual as an option. Winding Road for Drivers on TH-cam has a driving video of a Mazda 6 Sport with the manual and the manual transmission sure looks like fun in this car.
i got my mazda 6 Touring on april 20th and im still in love with it. i test drove EVERYTHING and this was the one. when i sat in the drivers seat and i could extend my left leg COMPLETELY i fell in love. it drives like a sports car and feels like a sedan. no complaints AND im getting 32 mpg AVERAGE. and no turbo...just 4 cylinders. it is a tiny bit noisy but for the money you cannot go wrong. AND in nearly 2 months i have yet to see another one! i get lots of compliments too. Beauty
my 14 fusion se w/lux package and 18 inch wheels 2 liter vel engine has 170000 runs perfectly love the paddle shifters...34/35 on cruise on the highway..24 in the city.. did a few mods... bigger sway bars.. poly bushes on the bars.. adjustable spring and shocks on the car..love it
All I know us that my 2014 mazda 6 has 108k on it and has never needed a single repair. Even the brake rotors are original. Not sure a ford would be able to say that
NOFATCHICK1 The accord does look nice, I personally like the mazda 6 better in both the looks and driving feel department, even though I know someone will bring up the accord sport v6 and compare its quarter mile times to a v6 muscle car
I did my car comparisons online and looked at various models and trim levels. Hands down, the Mazda6 was the front runner for looks, features, quality and price. Everyone who has asked me price of my car have all been blown away. The 6 comes very well equipped, especially in the Grand Touring trim. I call it a quiet bargain.
Strange that they mention soft touch materials in the mazda 6 but the not the fusion. Almost everything in the fusion is soft touch and high quality. The materials are even carried over to the second row which is not always the case in this segment.
I'm glad to hear that and I hope it's true. I just made a new car purchase. I test drove a 2013 Fusion as it was high on my list but being American I wanted an American built car so I went with the Honda Accord Sport. It is made here except for the transmission which is from Japan. The engine is made in USA. Of course I didn't help out with Ford's legacy costs but Honda is building them up with American workers. 30 years now the Accord has been built here.
Could tell they were biased towards the ford from the start I like the Mazda 6 a lot! But if you think it has a world class interior you've got no taste at all.
Kevin Bowen says you I work at mazda and everything on that car is gorgeous but that tom tom dated screen has to go period. I would take the honda two screen before this.
I guess is you ignore the 2.0L eco-boost engine the mazda has more power. and the Economy of the Mazda comes at the expense of the transmission I would highly look at what people are experiencing with it.
As an owner of the '14 Mazda6 I can't give anything. but praise about the handling, comfort and styling of my car. About to hit the 5k mark and I'm very happy I picked this car! For a good 0-60 in the Mazda6, check out my video. It's rather fast for a "family sedan". And it has an available Injen intake, and two FULL aftermarket exhausts, custom-made.
I've had a Mazda6 sport automatic for 3 months now. Pros: I drive mostly highway and it'll give me 32mpg on average if I'm aggressive, and 36 average if I try to be efficient. It's the sexiest car in my work parking lot. It cost me 30k flat. Cons: The left armrest is seriously impossible to get comfortable on. The cabin gets hella noisy from the wind when you get above 60mph. The bluetooth texting is hilariously slow. Though that might be due to my galaxyS2 being dropped way too often.
One thing most reviews of the mid-size market don't mention is how quiet the inside of the vehicle is while driving on road. Listen to the video back and you will hear more road noise in the Mazda 6. The Fusion is heavier and one of the reasons is the excellent sound insulation. It would make a difference to me. Some will say turn up the radio, but that's really not an answer.
I am so glad you guys did a comparison here. I love the lines of the Mazda especially over the front wheels all the way to the back of the car. And the front is very nice. The Fusion has a nicer front end in my opinion. The base Fusion interior and wheel covers are so bad it's like they did it on purpose to make you buy an upgrade. The Mazda is cheaper over all and I think is the better car.
I saw three new Mazda 6s the other day in Sofia, one, in pearl white, was next to a new 3 series and made it look ugly. What a stunning car, they've really outdone themselves this time.
I don't speak good English, but Mazda really needs to advertise more! In an era which is filled with products, they really need to increase their popularity. Especially among parents and middle-aged people, the ones who decide, pay or give recommendations, because they only recognize the brands they knew when they were younger.
Alex, please read my comment again. You have a 2013 Fusion. I said that manufacturing of the Fusion has moved back to the U.S. in 6/2013 for 2014 U.S. Fusion models. The 2014 models that are produced later this year will be made in the U.S. If you purchase a Fusion outside the U.S. it will still be made in Mexico or another factory in other parts of the world. Ford stated that all of the cars they sell in U.S. will be built in the U.S. and they are on their way to reach that goal.
Gotta admit I was overlooking Mazda for some time since I last had a '02 626 myself. But I love what Mazda is doing now with their new flowing design philosophy. A red new 6 is sexy as hell! Loses a lot of that heat factor painted white. Becomes a bit too calm if you ask me. Dark Blue and Black will be a great middle ground(if I get one). For now I'll stick to my VW CC. Another lovely car! :D Honorable mention for looks goes to Chevy Impala and VW Passat 15. Passat is matured and professional like a guy in a grey suit. Impala is young, lively and still elegant enough like a uni grad with jeans and sport coat.
Nobody with a lisp should ever be hired for narration. Nothing wrong with speech impediments, but it's horrible trying to listen to 7 minutes of narration with a lisp.
As mentioned in the video, the old Ford Fusion and current Ford Edge (and Lincoln MKX, Mazda CX-9) was and is based on the old Mazda6 platform. The Duratec and EcoBoost engines are also based off of Mazda's engines.
Great comparison video guys. It's amazing how as soon as Mazda gets to make their own cars they shoot straight to the top of the class. The new Fusion is great, but Japan just makes better cars. Period.
Fair comparison. It's better if you can show us a split screen specification comparison for two vehicles (at least for a few seconds, so we can pause the video and compare the specifications).
The 2013 Ford Fusion is harshly criticized in this video. They dislike the touch screen and its "my ford touch" buttons. Then also criticize it for being more expensive. I bought a 2013 Ford Fusion for 24 and it has 4:18 "actual knobs" that are extremely user friendly. In addition, the sound in the cabin is actually very quit in my opinion, even on the turnpike/highway. Don't hate. Just my opinion on the Fussion: Solid car. Ford is coming back.
That's really odd that the touch is so slow, mine flies through menus without delay. Calibrating from a voice command address sometimes takes two or three seconds, but what is 2 or 3 seconds? It converts voice to address and looks it up pretty quick.
I tried to like the styling of the fusion but I think its trying a bit too hard and it gets pretty 'fat' around the rear. The Mazda is just jaw dropping in person. It looks really nice and elegant with every line tastefully done.
I've driven both cars and still can't make up my mind. The styling of the exterior and interior of both cars are great. I just can't make up my mind on which to buy.
Surprised to hear that they think the fusion is louder on the inside since most places say it's pretty quiet... I also took one out for a test drive and noticed it was also very quiet.
the 2014 mazda6 now comes with an available 6speed manual optional for the Touring model.. thank god :) i own a sport model with automatic.. i only wish that it had more options at the low end
I'm going to reply this this comment from over a month ago because I feel it is miss placed by being so far down the list. People need to know more about you and your brilliant uploading. I mean, 15 views on average for your videos is quite impressive. I guess the "dude with the lisp" getting 170,000 views really needs to take some lessons.
It depends on the country you go. I mostly circulate between Austria, Croatia, Italy and of course Slovenia (where I come frome). Toyota is one of the best selling brands here (especially in Italy), Hondas are quite popular too. Renault and VW are the most demanding brand. Ford too, but mostly because of Fiesta and Focus. But it is as much American as the Honda is Japanese. Almost all of it`s cars are assembled in Germany, therefore even have different engines and cars per se.
I've seen many reviews with the Ford Fusion and this is the only review I've seen where there is so much negative things said about the car. Wow!!! I wonder if the other reviews were lying...whatever it is hope this review is not a sales driven one.
Also, I've been in both of these vehicles... the Fusion is a HUGE step in the right direction for Ford, but, given their recent history, thats not a difficult achievement. Currently the Mazda is the better car. Looking forward to seeing all of Fords 2014 lineup however, I am hoping for great things.
Thanks for the nice comparison. I would personally have a hard time picking one out of the two. Can anyone tell me what song plays at 0:25? Thanks in advance.
funny you guys not getting your diesel for a few months. Here in Australia we got Diesel straight up and I have one and love it. Very powerful, I would not want any more power and great on fuel.
Good point. Ironically the previous Mazda6 was made in America on the same platform as Mustang but the new one is 100% Japanese and the Fusion is indeed Mexican. One correction though: Mexico is in North American not Central America.
Wow actually impressed of the Mazda 6 interior and digging the dual exhaust. If I had to chose though I'd get the Fusion for the aggressive exterior styling.

No, if there's any help going on, it's Mazda helping Ford. The 4 cylinder Ecoboost engines are based on the Mazda developed LF series, MZR series engines, and the Cyclone 3.5L Ecoboost is based on the Mazda MZI engine.
The only issue with this comparison is that with the ecoboost, just like a diesel, you have to break them in so the first 5,000-7,500 miles it wont have peak performance and fuel economy.
In the late 90's Ford for a number of years owned a majority share of stock in Mazda when Mazda was having financial troubles, which was controlling interest. In other words, The Buck stopped at Ford for those amount of years.
you can change the engine on the Fusion all you want. it's still a no brainer - an easy win for the Mazda. more aggressive exterior styling (although, Ford shouldn't feel bad for its exterior - pretty good looking in its own right), much more classy and high end interior; and, most importantly, a better driver's car.
I agree. The Fusion's fuel Economy is pretty bad. I have the 2.0L Ecoboost and I only get around 24 MPG around the city. Any acceleration passed 3K RPM just ruins it... I found the Toyota Camry to be the best one in terms of acceleration and fuel economy.
The Mazda is perfect, inside and out.
Agree. Same for the Mazda3.
so much fun to fling into corners for a family sedan it's ridiculous
It sure is! But so is the Ford
Mazda is one of the best car out there! That is why they are the Germans favorite Japanese car!
I think the mathda looks way better

I like how you guys said Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring instead of GS GX and GT trim. Which equivalent Canadian trim is your tester here?
The Fusion in Titanium Trim with the optional 19inch rims is probably the best looking midsize car. With the Mazda a very close second.
optima says hi
optima is crap compared to these two cars.
but the fusion with the 2.0 is as fast as the optima/sonata. The Mazda and Fusion are far better handling cars than that Korean crap.
The 2004 - 2009 Mazda 6 looked the best in my opinion. Although the newest model looks less like a family sedan and more like a luxury sedan.
what is the name of the song theme in the begining?

The 2014 (Third gen) will be built in Hofu, Japan.
The touring model IS available with a manual transmission, not just the base sport model.
WOW. Too bad I just bought one and have owned Mazdas for years. They are fantastic. Don't be weak minded.
Ive had my 05' M3 vert for 2 years now...
Pros: Sexiest car in any parking lot., 0-60 in about 5 secs, convertible. It cost me 20k flat.
Cons: Avg 15 MPG
There is a manual transmission available in the Mazda 6 Touring as well, not just in the Sport
The Mazda6 is nice, but so far as I can tell, not many people are buying it, at least not in my area; I usually see the new Fusion around here.

You can also get a manual trans in the Mazda 6 Touring trim as well.
I also did a mileage check on it, just under 32 mpg.
How much speed is the transmission?
Mazda's are fun/sporty/fuel efficient and reliable..no surprise here.
Coming from a Ford guy... The EcoBoost 1.6 belongs in a compact car, not a midsize. The 2.0 with 250 HP is the ways to go.
Are those 17" or 19" rims on Mazda?
Honestly I think the 2 leaders in the segment would be the Accord and the Mazda6, hands down!
