    Trey Parker on Dice Tower, my mind is blown! That was terrific, Trey's choices were fun and well explained. It's gonna take me a while to process these two worlds colliding. Really enjoyed how comfortable and casual the video seemed. Didn't try to cater to Trey and his celebrity, which would have been easy to do. Trey was refreshing, just an average board gamer that enjoyed the chance to talk about them with like minded folks. "Butters is a real person, he's one of our gamers" is a sentence that is gonna rattle around my head for a long, long time. Best video ever!!
    I would like to hear Trey tell us what he imagines would be the favorite game or games of each of the boys on South Park. An episode of the boys playing a board game with a traitor element that either Cartman leans into insanely or we get surprised to find it is butter is the traitor and is absurdly sneaky. Obviously Trey and the SP crew would know exactly how to make that simple idea hilarious.
    Anything to keep two of my favorite interests interwoven will keep me smiling, thanks again for that vid. Did that really just happen??

  • @mcnamaraky
    @mcnamaraky 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Just absolute proof that TH-cam is the new place for "celebrities." The fact that Trey Parker is such a huge fan of all these guys just proves that. "Celebrities" aren't known by EVERYONE anymore (e.g. Will Smith, Warren Beatty), but, rather, are "celebrities" within the genre that they target. Examples include the guys from RedLetterMedia (who have become SO BIG that even Rian Johnson was tweeting about them before the release of The Last Jedi), Linus from LinusTechTips (who is so well known now and has done so well that he has tried creating a platform as an alternative to TH-cam, called Floatplane, in addition to being known by EVERY TECH COMPANY in existence), and more. These guys are what people call "internet celebrities," but to me, a more appropriate label would be "genre celebrity." For example: RedLetterMedia aren't really known outside the film community; Linus isn't really known outside the tech community; these guys here aren't really known outside the board games community.
    But these people are now SUCH BIG NAMES IN THEIR RESPECTIVE COMMUNITIES, that "real famous people" such as Trey Parker here, or Patton Oswald with RLM as well as Macaulay Culkin with RedLetterMedia/AVGNactually go onto THEIR SHOWS, and NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. Mike Stoklasa and Jay Bauman don't go on Patton's show, Patton' goes on THEIR show. These guys don't go on Trey's show, Trey goes on THEIR SHOW! Sure, Trey may have tossed a reference to these guys into his "Board Girls" episode, but it's not like they went on and did voice acting for the episode: instead, it's the other way around.
    So yeah, "GENRE CELEBRITIES" is what they should be called, not "INTERNET CELEBRITIES." The meaning is the same: that they aren't really known outside of their viewers. BUT, within their viewer-base, they are as big as they come: to get referenced on *South Park,* one of the biggest shows in history? Or, to get referenced by the people who MAKE *Star Wars,* in the case of Stoklasa/Bauman/Evans? Yeah, they're huge. They're just not huge to EVERYONE like "celebrities" used to be.
    No more are there Will Smiths, or Warren Beattys, who are popular with EVERYONE. Instead, now, we have celebrities that people follow because they ENJOY THE GENRE that these people represent.
    Individualism is prevailing. Just like private work contracts are becoming the new thing (e.g. Uber, Etsy, eBay, etc.) , so are smaller, yet more specific, celebrities becoming a thing.

      Honestly South Park is only offensive to people who want to be offended. Just about every episode has a message behind them but those kinds of people aren't going to sit down and take the time to understand what's being said. They just see a clip taken out of context and get angry even if it turns out the episode in question actually agrees with them. Even those with strong opinions about something like faith are capable of enjoying what South Park is about should they give it a chance to say what it wants to say.

    Any chance Trey is working on a SP board game with anyone? The video games are rpg, exploration types of games which seems like it could translate into a board game. A South Park sandbox board game playing as the boys with asymmetrical powers exploring the town in a point salad Western Legends kind of a way with the other towns people being similar to the bandits with events from episodes and unique to the game. Talked about Lord of the Rings and Rebellion feeling perfect, like the IPs but letting you make your own stories. If I had a game like those in the South Park world I would have a new favorite game.

      I understand Trey enjoying the idea of being Cowboys or Pirates. I want to be one of the boys in South Park creating chaos, Professor Chaos! Honestly I want to be Randy, love when he's featured in an episode. Having War of the Rings at 3 gives "The Big Fix" episode more context. That was best Dice Tower video ever!!!

  • @MemphiStig
    @MemphiStig 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Mike's right. The term "sandbox game" came from an actual box of sand that kids used to play in before fun was invented. On the plus side, it was open-ended (at the top usually), there were no dice, the rules were strictly home-brewed, and like the cave on Dagobah, it only contained what you brought with you. On the minus side, it was often criticized for its gritty resolution, its total lack of structure or design elements, and its tendency to work its way into the most inconvenient parts of your clothing, which led to discomfort, chafing, and fussy parents telling you not to drag sand all thru the house. While it was popular, it was considered a luxury item that not all families could afford, and in addition, a lot of kids much preferred just playing in the dirt. Also, it was easily ruined by strong rains.

Its one of those ones where you have to set aside a day for it and most of the time when we do a game day we would rather get two or three games on the table.
