Lets hope the Russian audience felt her southern passion singing Summertime....only Ms. Fleming can do those high pitch notes with the emotion that George Gershwin wrote in his music and words.....Simply Beautiful!!....
Dommage que des impolis applaudissent quand le morceau est déjà commencé ; de même ils ne savent pas attendre que l' orchestre et la cantatrice aient fini. Quel manque de respect pour les autres. Jean Delarue
I absolutely HATE the way she sings this. The tessitura of this song is very high and thus very hard to sing well, but she futzes around with it far too much and destroys the elegant simplicity and dreamy quality of the song. It is really a sort of lullaby...a mother singing to her baby...not the crude song of a brothel. Renee Fleming might be a star, but this performance was a massive fail!
If you see her at live performance, you won't say it. I used to see her many time at Metropolitan Opera. I barely knew her name at that time and I instantly fell in love her voice and performance. That's is why she was one of top main singers in Metropolitan Opera for long time. In addition, I heard only few top classical singers have power to choose conductor at their concerts not only in US, but worldwide. She was the one of them!!
@@janetflier6192 This is Fleming at her most ‘Fleming,’ which is to say that her mannerisms are completely unrestrained here. They have always been controversial. One either loves them or hates them.
Brilliantly sung and authentic in style. I heard that Fleming began as a jazz singer, and you can hear the inflections here.
Leontyne, for me, is the standard bearer of this aria. And, Ms. Fleming is a worthy successor. Yes, she is fully impassioned and sining well.

GREAT!!! Renée has the best voice and the best smile!!
So good. Mrs. Fleming gave to the known piece her contribution and it really improved.

Her voice is decent, but it's difficult to understand the words she is singing.
I don’t have that problem!!
Do you even know what opera is? What did you expect, a Broadway musical?
she choose a high tessitura, and you can see it is very hard for her to sing there.

If you don’t like it, DON’T LISTEN TO IT!!!
Wow. Whatever did she do to you?
Given that gershwin had such a jazz influence i think this was appropriate as it was sung as a piece alone.
I somehow agree but I’ll analyse the reasons and come back
Couldn't agree more! There are very few performances that do "justice" to this piece. This one is lightyears wide from them.
Horrible
Andre Suston how? It’s beautiful!

What in the world is “horrible” about it??? I think it’s wonderful!!
