It's May 2023 and Willie Nelson is 90 years old. Still playing his guitar and singing to all of us. This man is an American icon! God Bless You Willie!
Since 1969, Nelson has primarily played a Martin N-20 classical guitar with a Baldwin Prismatone pickup. It's as fancy as you'd expect a Martin to be. It isn't very highly decorated, but its top is Sitka spruce, its back and sides are Brazilian rosewood. Nelson met the nylon string Martin guitar in 1969 after a drunk destroyed his last guitar. Nelson bought it sight-unseen and gave it a name. “I named my guitar Trigger because it's kind of my horse,” he explains. “Roy Rogers had a horse called Trigger.” 2:13 [Range of Sounds; Rolling Stone; Stringjoy]
The guitar wielded by Willie Nelson, Trigger, is one of the most recognizable and well-known instruments in music history. He purchased the Martin N-20 nylon-string classical acoustic guitar for $750 in 1969. Trigger is currently valued at around $800k-900k dollars. It is assumed that this item was manufactured between 1969 and 1972. 3:13 [FuelRocks]
I'm an old man, 75 years. I play this on my guitar every day in hopes of rising up like Mister Nelson my hero. 6 years and still learning. Season's Greetings all you pickers
The song already has had its justice. Hahaha, Willie's version is great too, but honestly so many great musicians have performed this well to their distinct gifts.
Grew up in central Scotland listening to Willie nelson in the background through ma da, I'm 50 this year I'm still listening, an American legend, a brilliant guy
Willie Nelson was born April 29, 1933 in Abbott, Texas. He just turned 83 years old and he's still making great, classic music. Happy birthday Willie Nelson. I'm grateful that I've been fortunate to see him in concert a number of times since the 1980s.
Willie has always struck me as a man who's simply refused to stop learning. He has never stopped growing as a musician and his vocabulary expands year by precious year. Thank you, Willie! We love you!
The way he plays the guitar is masterful. It’s very simple, chord wise and note wise, elementary really, but he just drags the guitar, beautifully artistic, total control and pure expression, rich and colourful. His singing is the same. It’s as natural as walking and breathing to him.
My best friend died 19 years ago when she was 19. Her older brother, a hardcore punk, started listening to old country music about then. He grew out his hair just like Willie’s. Everyone has a way to cope with life. This song rings true for so many. Summertime and the living is easy…
@Willie Nelson official fan inbox I’ve been a fan of Willie a long time, listen to every form of music. Good is always good and the best are never forgotten.
I never thought of you singing this song Willie but your beautiful country voice can sing anything with such feeling and truth it touches me every time. Thank you from my heart 🤗😊
A true American Legend love you Willie my dad who has passed was your number one fan !!! I’m sure he is singing your songs from heaven …. God Bless you Mr Nelson .
Thanks, Willie, for showing us how to age so gracefully: Taking the changes that happen to our bodies and using them to bring new, even better resonance to our work. My goal is to emulate you as I keep goin’.
I was lucky enough to see you twice in St.Louis . Once with Leon Russell. So many years ago. All I have to hear is one note from your guitar and I know who it is . You are an American Treasure !
I want to thank God for Willie Nelson and for allowing him and I to both be Texans by the grace of God!!!!!! The Rio Grande Valley loves you Willie!!!!!!
Some people find JC like he himself was missing. Well, let's face it, he is a bit of a mystery. A friend shoved an LP in my hands when I was 17 and said with a stern face,- listen! I'm 60 now and still listening. Willie, you are one of a kind, the kind I like. Proud to say I've seen you perform live 5 times throughout my life. Summertime sure is easy when listening to Willie, but then again so is fall, winter and spring!
@Willie Nelson official fan inbox Oh, only about 40 years. I had to grow up a bit in order to appreciate both who you are and the music you make. Now, you’re a pillar in the structure of who I am. I’m just so grateful…
@Willie Nelson official fan inbox Unfortunately, no, I haven’t. Boy! I wish I had. I don’t do many concerts. One of yours would be so great. Ever come to central NC?
Oh, my dear Willie Nelson, how nice is to listen your singing! Fortunatto e are the ones that had and have the chance to hear your sweet voice. It goes till the bottom of our souls. Thanks, my dear and stay well!
Willy and Trigger, the greatest duo in music history. My ears will never hear this song again without hearing your soulful performance. Absolutely breathtaking.
Willie is proof no needs a fancy instrument, pyrotechnics, lazers, over powering drums to make music. Pure, raw, unadorned...providing music for the ages. Love you, Willie!!
+AGENTARMES How right you are! And so ironic that you say 80+. Because, when I first heard him was in the 1980's, and I fell in love with him and his music immediately. After waiting decades, I finally had the ultimate pleasure of seeing one of his live shows. I would love to once again have the opportunity to see him live and I would do so in a heartbeat! But, it was such a fantastic experience that, if I suddenly won "Front Row" tickets to one of his concerts (within my heart of hearts), I think I would be compelled to give those tickets away to somebody who has never, or would never, be able to afford to see him otherwise.
Willie, thanks. I’m now forty one times around. My folks positively have had your music playing my whole life. Along with one of my favorite uncles. The old engineer. So I can travel around through time and enjoy some of the simpler joys of life. In your songs. God bless.)
Well good evening. I hope you had a wonderful dinner. Different songs invoke different years and eras. “It’s not supposed to be that way has always been great. And “ Red Headed Stranger” along with “Pat Garret and Billy The Kid “ are essential in my library. But your albums with with all the duets are top notch too. Trying to be clever with something to say. But I digress. Simply and humbly thank you. I danced barefoot in the rain in the mud on my wedding day. To Amos lee. Or weather permitting the yard. We live a good life. Not one of many options but the use of lots of resources. Making costumes and tools to fix the days problems. Listening to our wee nerds who have now almost grown all up themselves bring their songs of new age to the mix . How wonderful is life. A whole circle, even when it’s bumpy.) My handle here on this devise for this purpose is one my beautiful little girl made years ago when she was spray paint girl. I discovered that profile on my phone so now I just keep it in play. Time to go check the smoker now and add some chips.
Happy holidays Willie! Thanksgiving is such a wonderful time to be together and enjoy the fruit of our labor as we eat and feast our friends and family. I have had time to think about my position, and I am in no clubs or anything of the sort, and not likely to . I show my support however I can when I can. Tend to live in the moment . And have the ability to enjoy where I am and what I am doing. Fully and completely. Then when it’s done, onto the the next thing. Always singing and laughing and crying. Remembering those in the past and praying for those that in the future. I’m a bit of an out cast in some regards. But in an effort to teach my children how to integrate in the crowd and be a part of the whole thing , we go forward and learn new things and how to work with all sorts of people. Hoping they play their music for a time. And a new dance too. I’m sad, my parents have forsaken me and we don’t get to be together on any holiday. For what reason I do not know. I am a good man doing what I need to for my wife and kids. All I have now is this old music of theirs which I will continue to play and share with the next generations. So when it’s their turn on the rocking chair patting the back of some new little life, maybe they will too smooth the child with the same songs we all heard. It’s Friday today but sure has a Sunday feeling to it. So time to burn one down now. Happy holidays to you and your family!

I absolutely love hearing Willie sing and strum Trigger. A definite highlight of my day!
There's no need to explain to him that, "in summertime trains run every ten minutes" 1:03
