My mom was in rehab with Brolin in the 90s in Prescott, AZ - after Goonies but before Diane Lane & No Country. She said he didn’t seem to take things seriously at the time, but was funny & friendly. My mom’s been sober for 30yrs & is a professional counselor now, but I still think it’s crazy that they were going thru rehab together!
I think it's kinda shitty that your mom is telling stories about people she was in rehab with and that you're repeating them on the internet. You're saying your mom was a counsellor... that makes her indiscretion even more shocking.
@@Dublin90210 Brolin wasn’t her patient - she was in AA meetings with him 30yrs ago when she was in recovery. She never talks about her patients. She shared her personal experience with me, her daughter, long before she ever became a counselor. Now, I’m simply retelling that story cause it’s kind of crazy, & they’ve both grown so much since that time. Besides, it’s public knowledge that Brolin struggled with rehab & prison for a while - he was literally just talking about it in this video & even wrote a book about it. So honestly, I’m not sure why you’re so offended.
@@b-dub6865 You don't have to explain. Brolin has made it very clear that he was in rehab. He not only discusses it in public, but writes about it. He's never hidden his pecadillos. That’s wild. After watching the documentary on HBO about Tonia Haddix , the animal broker whose chimpanzee ripped her friend’s face off, I wouldn’t want to go anywhere near those wild beasts. Tonka was off the chain ripping police cars doors off like the incredible Hulk.
I lived in Santa Barbara briefly as as young would-be(later) punk in the early 80s, knew RKL was a local band but moved away and never got to see them. Very cool to see Josh mention them. Their early records rip and are and pretty underrated.
Let's face it he had to write a book! He was obviously a colorful fellow when he was younger. He does not need a ghost writer. He is a natural reconteur either when writing or telling😄
he was never in the band RKL. he grew up and jammed with those guys but he was never a member of the band. He never recorded with RKL, he never wrote any RKL songs. He never played or toured with RKL as a member of the band. He was there. part of the scene and friends with those guys. PERIOD.
love josh brolin movies, especially the Sacario one's, the guy has a great sense of humor and an open dialogue with his honesty and demeaner...good stuff, awesome stuffs/
Wow great seeing Josh Brolin on. I am getting the book. Also, thanks Jimmy for all the laughs showing how insane things are. I did send your message to every republican I know but it didn't help. Let's see what the future holds
Well, Josh has certainly lived a life! He is being a bit modest, RKL does indeed have real influence in the old school punk scene. But he is also underselling how... "tough" some parts of his childhood were. (from a previous interview) "The group of guys that I grew up with, 36 of them are dead. 12 are in jail. 4 are in jail and also dead. I keep careful count, all 36 dead guys. I'm from a tough environment, ya know?" I'm 3 years younger (and also born in Feb), I don't recall even knowing 52 "guys" in all of my youth - but I am fairly certain that the majority of the ones I did know are still around somewheres (at least a few years ago when I last checked). Despite being the son of a showbiz dad (Jan Smithers (formerly) and Barbara Striseand are his step - mothers as well) with the stardom of James Brolin, Josh seems so easy to get along with - like he would be/could be your friend, if he weren't "too cool" for many of us to approach.
I came to acid late, 17 years old. Came home late one night, I was trippin', and Mom was sitting in the kitchen waiting for me. Mom asked if I had been smoking Pot. I replied " No Mom" as the world swirled about me, good times1
Lol I started late as well .first time by accident, a friend gave me what i thouht was an upper , then realized i took a whole hit of acid. He looked in every club that night until he found me tripping in the band on the dance floor! Damn i stil can remember it well. Fast forward. 5 years later my hubby and i loved doing lsd acid n shrooms ! Then stopped once i hit around 33-34. Kids..they make u go straight. Lol
I had a curfew the first night I did mescaline. So I was just starting to roll when I got home. Tiny little rock band was playing on my dresser, but I knew I had to applaud very quietly so my parents didn't hear lol. Rly great little band. Not any songs I knew.
Wow, it's gotta feel SURREAL to be a guest on a famous show while your former cell-mate from prison is ALSO a guest that night! I served 10 years in maximum security prison (1st deg homicide. Took out my father with a metal bat when I was a 19 year old girl. Saved my mom in the moment, and then snapped after a lifetime of torture and extreme abuse, some of which left scars on my body to this day. All my siblings had been locked up before me, for attempting to take him out, so all that was enough mitigating factors for the judge to give me 10 rather than Life), and I met some of the best people of my life in there. People I genuinely consider family, and dear friends. But the amount of trauma-bonding you go through with people in prison is immense, and just coming home in and of itself is a feeling like no other (been home 15 months after serving the full 10). I can only imagine how eerie it must feel to be a late night guest with your cell-mate, though. Talk about a "woah, look at us now! We actually made it!" type moment... Very cool!
Josh Brolin is a great guest. I love watching him on the Colbert show. And Jimmy Kimmel is my favorite late night host. I felt the banter between them was a little testy.
I don’t care to watch Jimmy Kimmell, he just doesn’t entertain me. I heard about Brolins mom and the gorilla and I had to watch. Stories like that are awesome.

This dude deserves at least half an hour interview. He's podcast gigs lately were a delight.
Conan and Ted had the two best interviews I've heard with brolin
Two hours on Howard stern

half an hour for thanos?
The story about Mom and the silverback gorilla is excellent

Completely. His mom was a force and knew how to send a clear message any species would get!
I'd imagine somewhere in Matthew McConaughey's notes it said, 'All write, all write, all write.'

Yep. Brolin Book is Def on my Xmas list. ❤
Did you know Spotify includes 15 hours a month of listening to audiobooks with the subscription and Josh Brolin’s book is one that’s included.
He will always be the big bro in The Goonies
I could watch Brolin tell anecdotes from his life for hours 😎
probably the first time i've ever wanted to read a celebrities book.

Just saw them in SF
One of our Greatest Actors. What a run.
Man, get him on next week, and the week after, brilliant interviewee
His impression of Brando is hilarious 🤣🤣🤣
Of course Marlon Brando would refer to A Streetcar Named Desire as "that one movie I did with the cable car" 😂
I think that's Brando's weird sense of humor.
