    I use 5 slices of bread with 2 eggs 1/4 cup Suger and about 1 cup of milk .
    Beat the eggs add Suger mix then milk fry in butter . My dad taught me how to make French toast but he used about a cup of sugar but remember this guy didn't gain weight .

    Hey there! It's called French Toast because the French ate a LOT of bread back in the day, yet there was no way to keep it fresh. It often hardened before they would eat again. They developed "French Toast" so they could utilize the bread before it turned into a rock. :)

      In French at least where I live, French Toast is called pain perdue (my spelling may be off, I apologize), which translates to lost bread. The reason is you lose the bread when you put it in the egg mixture.

    I add a very small amount of almond extract to the egg mix. I also beat the eggs before I add the milk to avoid splashing the milk out. This is the first time I ever heard of anyone adding salt to French toast, I'm gonna try it next time I make this. I have a couple pieces of MadeIn cookware, they are pretty good.

    I make the best French toast. For one person, me, I make one piece. I beat one egg in pan and add 1/8 cup half and half and 1 tsp vanilla flavoring. I soak bread thoroughly on both sides unto all egg mixture is soaked up. I cook in butter on lower heat until cooked through and a little crispy on the outside and puffed. I serve with real maple syrup also. My toast is the talk of the town. No one can believe how delicious it is, and everyone wants the recipe. It isn’t eggy. It’s amazing.

    This inspired me to surprise my wife with French Toast this morning. Big success. How do you manage the pan browning or burning the butter when making multiple batches? Scrape the pan in between or let it cool?

    • @homecookbasics
      @homecookbasics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      If your doing a lot of them you can sacrifice a piece of bread and kind of mop up some of the brown butter and start over. If you really burning butter just turn it down a bit.

    • @janc8199
      @janc8199 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Use Pam every time you put a new batch on the grill, and add the butter on top when it's done..Much easier.

    • @dainatebecis9042

      I use more butter, cook on a lower heat longer, to make sure all of the egg soaked in is cooked through. I also add a teaspoon sugar & a drop of vanilla. Another delicious addition is a little bit of flour. It really works. You can use also use brown sugar for a richer French flavour. They use Brioche bread.
      My son likes it thick, with crusts cut off, & batter soaked through. It takes much longer to cook through on a low heat, do there's no raw egg, but is more moist & luxurious. It needs more butter to fry rather than grill.

    After removing the toast, turn off the heat and pour the mixture into the pan. Push it around with a spatula and in about 30 seconds you have great scrambled eggs to go with the French toast.

    you have to crack each egg in a small bowl so you don't ruin the whole batch over that rare one bad egg 😉 you have to pick out a piece of egg shell with a bigger piece of egg shell, it doesn't run away from the other shell like it does your finger, but mainly i'm hoping for a review on that new big breville you got, how about some bread pudding or something that you can't make in just any big toaster oven. Thank you. 🌴

      they call it lost bread in france, you have to use stale bread, so you can soak it a bit ❤️

      He is getting shell fragments because he is cracking the eggs against the inside wall of the bowl. Cracking on the edge with the egg leaning inside would crack the shell more cleanly. A little wrist action springing back quickly upon impact also helps.

      @@KimSevern I prefer stale bread for dunking without falling apart. It is usually French Toast time when I reach the end of a loaf of bread. I sometimes even purposely dry out a few slices as if I am going to make stuffing but not quite as fully dry.
