Ages ago before ASMR was a term I used to watch this video every night! I love that someone also found this video and that I get to revisit it once again! Love it
I'm just baffled by how effortless they make it look. They don't even make a rough sketch first, they just draw this amazing action pose accurately right of the bat and get the framing perfectly too. And damn, I wish I could ink that well that fast. You can truly tell these people have spent a lifetime mastering this art. I want to be this good one day.
It's like manga artists or animators. The most surprising thing is how many perfect renders they throw away in animation. Because according to them it doesn't cut it
The thing about Romita or the mangaka guys or anybody with this level of experience is that they've drawn literally tens of thousands of figures - and that's just the stuff that's seen print. It's almost inconceivable how much experience they have.
The natural consequence of doing the same kind of work thousands of times. You'll also notice that each artist has developed their own kind of shorthand, meaning they do the same kind of things over and over. For instance, when it comes to shading and identifying shadow areas, each individual artist will handle that in nearly the same way time and time again. The same goes for how they render muscle groups, faces, and everything. It's similar to the individual musical quirks that enable listeners to distinguish an Eric Clapton solo from a Stevie Ray Vaughn solo or a Jimi Hendrix solo, even if they've never heard the song before.

I just love all their different styles between the different artists! Like the first man, drawing spider-man with confident fast strokes, yet in the Captain America sketch, you can see the precision and carefulness of his lines.

That Elektra drawing was wild it made me laugh how imaginative that artist was to use that paint for her hair and the shading which made her facial expression come to life especially in black and white, just beautiful. Great talented classic legendary artists they are.

Excellent. 46 here, and my old college art teacher is about the same age as these masters. Anywho, he too draws like this. Also the no music, and no fancy Nancy. Love it. Like watching my old art teacher. Just sheer confidence. Being able to see it on paper already.

I've been a huge fan of his art since the 80's when he was doing The New Mutants (his covers for that series were groundbreaking) and Elektra: Assassin #1-8 in 86/87. That's actually Elektra he is drawing in the video. Sienkiewicz was an innovative and prolific cover artist throughout the mid-to-late 80's, responsible for what many believe to be the best comic covers of that period. Along with Frank Miller, Sienkiewicz turned the world of superhero comics on its head, breathing new life into what had, by the early-to-mid 80's, become a very stale industry. In 1988 Sienkiewicz wrote and painted a very dark, four-part miniseries called "Stray Toasters" for the indie publisher Epic in 1988 that blew me away. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes his work, the graphic novel is easy to find.

I draw like that as a matter of fact anyone can draw if you concentrate on shapes and believe in yourself. I've drawn characters and superheroes for 35 years been hired to paint walls of characters, even taught my middle school and high school class while I was a student.

I'm still in-awe how the last artist, Travis Charest, is the same guy who designed PEPSIMAN (yes, THE one and only Pepsiman!) And seeing his style improved so greatly over the years is so inspiring, just like the previous masters featured here too. Skill does ripen with age. I'll always remember that.

That Elektra drawing was wild it made me laugh how imaginative that artist was to use that paint for her hair and the shading which made her facial expression come to life especially in black and white, just beautiful. Great talented classic legendary artists they are.

I got to watch Joe Kubert draw live at NYCC over a decade ago and it was a privilege to watch a master at work.

I always had a feeling that Joe Kubert did not have time for a detailed underdrawing in his art, from how fast and sketchy his ink lines were. Yet he was always so precise no matter what he drew - humans, apes, jaguars, vehicles... You name it, he could draw it!

Sienkiewicz is the fucking master. I've been a huge fan of his art since the 80's when he was doing The New Mutants (his covers for that series were groundbreaking) and Elektra: Assassin #1-8 in 86/87. That's actually Elektra he is drawing in the video. Sienkiewicz was an innovative and prolific cover artist throughout the mid-to-late 80's, responsible for what many believe to be the best comic covers of that period. Along with Frank Miller, Sienkiewicz turned the world of superhero comics on its head, breathing new life into what had, by the early-to-mid 80's, become a very stale industry. In 1988 Sienkiewicz wrote and painted a very dark, four-part miniseries called "Stray Toasters" for the indie publisher Epic in 1988 that blew me away. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes his work, the graphic novel is easy to find.

I draw like that as a matter of fact anyone can draw if you concentrate on shapes and believe in yourself. I've drawn characters and superheroes for 35 years been hired to paint walls of characters, even taught my middle school and high school class while I was a student.
