Does the Qur'an tell us to not befriend Jews, Christians and people who don't share our faith? If so, why?

Also do not place them behind your back as background beauty!
And also advanced your last message from your videos: "...have you enjoyed*" "to have you reminded/learned*"

A few years after becoming Muslim, I went to a conference where a sheikh started telling at the audience to not have non-Muslim friends because of this ayah. It sent me down a long road of depression and anxiety. I think if I had seen this video then, it would have answered a lot of my questions. Alhamdulilah.

No , the Quran said don't leave your parent
      Quran chapter 31 verse ( 14 - 15 ) :
And We have commanded people to ˹honour˺ their parents. Their mothers bore them through hardship upon hardship, and their weaning takes two years. So be grateful to Me and your parents. To Me is the final return.(14) But if they pressure you to associate with Me what you have no knowledge of,1 do not obey them. Still keep their company in this world courteously, and follow the way of those who turn to Me ˹in devotion˺. Then to Me you will ˹all˺ return, and then I will inform you of what you used to do.(15)

So basically, what I understood from this Khutbah, We should be steering our own life. After all, we are the only one that are responsible for our deeds. In the day of judgement, I will be asked about only my deeds. No one else would be answerable for my deeds. So we should try to understand Quran and try to lead our life based on that, based on those values instead of following anyone else. We shouldn’t be so close to the non-believers that they can have a control or influence over our actions and our decisions. If that does not happen, then we are good to go.
Please correct me if you think I understood it wrong somehow. Because I believe that will only increase our knowledge. And also, English is my third language. So extremely sorry for bad English.

English: "O you who have believed, do not take My enemies and your enemies as allies."Surah Al-Maidah, Verse 5 (5:5):Arabic: وَطَعَامُ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ حِلٌّ لَّكُمْ وَطَعَامُكُمْ حِلٌّ لَّهُمْEnglish: "...the food of those who were given the Scripture is lawful for you and your food is lawful for them..."Surah Al-Maidah, Verse 5 (Continued):Arabic: وَالْمُحْصَنَاتُ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ وَالْمُحْصَنَاتُ مِنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْEnglish: "...And [lawful in marriage are] chaste women from among the believers and chaste women from among those who were given the Scripture before you."Surah At-Tawbah, Verse 23 (9:23):Arabic: يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَتَّخِذُوا آبَاءَكُمْ وَإِخْوَانَكُمْ أَوْلِيَاءَ إِنِ اسْتَحَبُّوا الْكُفْرَ عَلَى الْإِيمَانِEnglish: "O you who have believed, do not take your fathers or your brothers as allies if they have preferred disbelief over belief."
Imagine life as a complex garden you're tending. Each type of relationship is like a different plant-some are sturdy trees, others delicate flowers, and still others are herbs or shrubs. Each requires a specific type of care, and each contributes differently to the overall ecosystem of your garden.
    1. Surah Al-Mumtahinah can be likened to a hedge that borders your garden. This hedge provides a natural barrier that protects the inner sanctuary of your beliefs and core community. You don't let invasive species grow here that might choke out the native plants you're nurturing.
    2. Surah Al-Maidah is akin to companion planting, where certain plants benefit each other when grown together. Sharing food and even entering into marriages with People of the Book are like planting beans next to corn; they co-exist and can even enrich each other. Yet, like any gardener, you have to be discerning about which plants are compatible.
    3. The same Surah Al-Maidah also implies that some relationships can blossom into something deeper, like a seed turning into a beautiful flower. Marrying someone from People of the Book is akin to grafting a new plant onto an existing tree- it’s a deeper form of union that requires care, but can bear beautiful fruit if nurtured properly.
    4. Lastly, Surah At-Tawbah brings us back to the internal dynamics of our garden. Even the trees you've known since they were seedlings (representing fathers and brothers) must align with the overall well-being of your garden. If they become diseased or start to overshadow other plants, you may need to prune them back.
It tells you that relationships have varying needs and impacts. By tending to each plant carefully, understanding its specific needs, and knowing how it interacts with others, you can cultivate a garden that is both diverse and harmonious.
So, while these Quranic verses may seem to provide contradictory guidance, they actually offer a well-rounded, nuanced instruction manual for managing various kinds of relationships in your life. Being a good gardener, like being a good decision-maker, involves understanding these subtleties and acting accordingly, balancing both the immediate needs and the long-term health of your garden, or community.

“If the enemy is inclined towards peace, make peace with them. And put your trust in Allah. Indeed, He ˹alone˺ is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.”
      Surah Al-Ahzab verse 48,
“And obey not the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and harm them not. And put your trust in Allah, and sufficient is Allah as a Trustee.”
      Other version:
“And do not obey the disbelievers and the hypocrites but do not harm them, and rely upon Allah. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs.”

If you hv to choose between a good kufar and a bad muslim as your leader, the sunnah is to choose the bad muslim as your leader. The prophet pbuh has forseen this problem will happen in the future, and he told this to Abu Dzar, and advised Abu Dzar to stick to the muslim leader. Why? Bcoz, InsyaAllah, it will be easier to hold on to your faith.
However, we must also be aware that there are 2 types of muslim - the muslims, and the munafiks. Between these two, we must always choose, the muslim, even if he is a fasik (always sinning). A munafik is even worse than a kufar.

This is may be a bit political, but I can see as another pillar that can be explored, the following:
When it comes to Jews and Christians, as we see in the world today, it will be very unfair to brush all of them with the same brush. Let's start with Jews. There are 2 kinds:
1- Zionists, who are pretending to be Jews, but only use Judaism as an excuse or a shield to justify their political & geopolitical goals and ambitions.
2- Actual Jews, these are real Jews (imo) who realize that Zionists (led be Israel) have hijacked their religion for the reasons mentioned earlier.
Let's switch to Christians. Just like Judaism, I see 2 different Christians in the world today:
1- Hollywood Christians, these are Christians whose faith is so weak that whatever wind comes takes them with it. For example, if the current trend says to support LGBT nonsense, they do so.
2- Actual Christians, these are Christians who have strong beliefs, and cannot be swayed easily. If we take Russia as an example, they don't tolerate the LGBT ideology because it goes against their Christian beliefs.
Now, here's a couple more examples of where the 2 kinds further differ. Israel (Zionist entity) is constantly attacking and killing innocent Palestinians. On the other hand, there many actual Jews in Israel and the US who fully support the Palestinian cause. When Syria was invaded, and the US & Israel have tried (still trying) to destroy it, if it wasn't for the support of Russia, Syria would have ended up as another Libya.
I have tried to be very brief with my examples because this topic cannot be summed up in a couple of lines. When we consider today's ideologies and actions, we can clearly see how you can be allied with some Jews and Christians who remain true to their religion, but not with the other half who betrayed their faith, and only use it as a marketing tool.

I understand what you're saying about (not) classing religious and secular Jews and Christians together.
On the other hand, Judaism (in general) teaches that the faith belongs to a particular race or ethnicity and that the goyim (non-Jews) are not entitled to all of the truth.
Also Christians (in general, with exception of Jehovah's Witness) make the Prophet Jesus (alayhi salam) equal to Allah which is the greatest sin (unforgivable if they don't repent before death).
We don't know their true intentions for perceivable doing righteousness.
We just have to read, understand and strive to obey the Qur'an. If Allah says don't take them as allies (in the applicable context) then we shouldn't.
We might agree with some of their morality at first, then start "depending" on them to "save" us, instead of realizing that we are only really saved by Allah.

@@zrperro I don't disagree with anything you said. NAK talked about not being allied with them in everything (even in wrong deeds) as one pillar of this topic. I mentioned how there are 'Jews & Christians' who only use their religion to further their ambitions and goals (ie: saying with their mouths what they don't feel at heart), which makes them hypocrites, and I don't think anyone in their right minds would take a hypocrite as ally.
As for your point on what Jews and Christians believe in, my view on that is simple: I know that the Qur'an is the absolute truth, and if it comes to a conversation/debate I'm willing to present the Jews & Christians with what the Qur'an says about the things with differ in. But in the end, as it's mentioned in the Qur'an, Allah will judge between all of us on Judgment Day.

No , he wasn't a Muslim because the Prophet invited Abu Talib to Islam on his death bed, and he refused and died on Kufr. However he will be in the least of Hellfire according to Hadith.

Akhi, Many 'authentic' Hadith traditions talk abou stoning punishment, apostasy and blasphemy lawd, although it is not in Quran and Sunnah. Also, they talk about all Jews and Christians going to hell although Quran honors their worship in Synagogues, Monasteries and Churches despite disagreeing with their theological positions. Many Hadiths are just a reworked versions of Jewish Hadiths or 'Israeli'yat'. The 'Weak' Hadiths are all fabricated by definition, but even the 'Authentic' ones have loads and loads of fabrications. Muslims have to radically reform these 'infallible' Hadith books, which were written two to three centuries after the death of Prophet Muhammad and are a huge obstacle in way of Islamic reforms in Islamic World. Educated Muslims have to talk about problems in islamic tradition.

The Quran is non contradictory. That means one part in it will never contracict the other parts. This ayat is not talking about regular Jews and Christians. Why? Because other ayaat in the Quran praise the Jews and Christians. So who is this ayat talking about? Most modern muslim scholars lack basic critical thinking skills when it comes to other tradition. Ask a simple questionto yourself have Jews and Christians ever been allies???? THE ANSWER IS NO. NEVER. They have historically hated each other. Because the Christians call Isa (as) the Son of God and the Jews call him an illegitimate child (wa auoozu billah). How can they be allies of one another?? So those scholars who say that these 2 groups are allies lack common sense and knowledge of history. Then who are these Jews and Christians?
The miracle of the Quran is that it predicts that there will be a time when Jews and Christians will become allies. THIS HAPPENED IN THE 20TH CENTURY WHEN THE ZIONIST MOMENT WAS CREATED. For the first time in 2000 years jews and cheistians left their theological affiliantians behind and made an alliance to take over the Holy Land. We are being told do not be friends with such Zionists jews and Christians who are oppressive tyrants. These are located in the western civilization. Not all of them but most of their leadership are zionists. We have been banned from being friends with them.

I have unsubscribed from all Islamic channels like NAK, Mufti Menk, Yasir Qadhi and others.
Why? Because there is too much feed. Even if I reduce my Islamic YT to just one channel I still get too much feed. Not even big famous artists upload this much. The only channels who upload this huge amount of videos/shorts/posts are narcissistic related channels.
Think about that, please. Is it about Islam or have these Islamic channels more and more become focussed on the speaker? Is it about the religion or is it about being popular YT and gaining more subscribers? Let us not even talk about the other SM channels.
I love Islam. But I am getting sick of these channels. I think the Islamic speakers and their teams really need to re-evaulate what they are doing.
