Derek and the Dominos was “ In Concert “ has always been my favorite live album!! I never thought I’d be able to learn this dynamic song, but now I can sit down and really learn it!! Thank you so much for sharing this awesome tune and how to play it with all of us who love it!!!

I thought I was the only guy who appreciated that album. Sad to say, Mr. Clapton was at his best as a tortured heroin addict at aged 23-25.

Underrated Clapton song. Glad he's brought it back lately. HIs voice is even better now.

You're there in spirit - lots of muted up-stroke, down-stroke, hammering, vibrato and fluid melody - Clapton takes a new path every time.

One of the best performances of this is from an extra bonus DVD that was included with copies of Crossroads Festival 2007 sold at Best Buy. It's a 9:43 minute version that includes an extended bass solo by Willie Weeks. At first listen, that solo is a tad long but in the overall scheme of things, it morphs the song from a too-short riff based song to a long groove oriented song. You did a great job here pulling out all of the picking / accent subtleties that make the song pop.

You helped me out a lot on this song. Clapton rarely plays the a song the same way twice! There are 2 live Derek a and the Dominos live albums. "In concert" and Live at the Filmore. Both albums were recorded on the same 5 dates but most are recorded on different nights. " Why Dose Love Got to be So Sad are totally different! One song I would like you to teach is Roll It Over! Same on both albums. Some of his best wah wah !

Great lesson! It’s been years later, forgot just how it goes and to save time I hoped I’d find my OG source material. That was it. You killed it! One of the easiest & most fun Clapton songs to play + the first time I heard Clapton perform this it was life changing bc I could relate at the time. To know a legend like Eric experienced the same struggles and is doing amazing now is grounding. Thanks for your tutorial!

Also sounds great to play and sing on acoustic. Flattering as it was, although I did not agree, I’ve had friends say they liked my acoustic version better. Perhaps I should start posting vids on here. I’ll have to check out more of your lessons.
      Much Love!

Eric Clapton was/is a great rhythm player - that doesn’t get mentioned very often. This song was being recorded for Derek and The Dominos second album but wasn’t finished when Eric walked out of the sessions ... Bobby Whitlock added his keyboards and completed the vocals for the 40th Anniversary 2CD release of the Layla album. Great to see a lesson on this!

juste one detail to mention : after watching quite a bit of concert, the end of the main verse is first the chord widely used by Clapton D/F# - G- E and after for the ending he plays the D in barre chord to end the verse... that"s what i see. ;-)
The 3 first chords are the same in "change the word" acoustic part.

I should also thank Eric Clapton for coming up with a truly great song and awesome guitar piece! When he plays this tune at Royal Albert Hall with Doyle Bramhall playing rhythm is an awesome concert! Doyle playing upside down blows me away! If I were jamming with him, I don’ think I could look at him and keep playing on track. It would totally throw me off! Lol!

Correction ... Derek and the Dominos did record this in the studio. I've been listening to it since the 90's. The studio version is far more laid back and one of my favorites. It's on TH-cam if you do a little searching for it. Thanks :)

Rolf Bennewitz I think it has to do with copy right issues. I don't think tabs can be posted unless it's 'in the style of' or something like that. At any rate, if it's clear that it's connected to the site that includes paid member (which I've found to be totally worth it, btw)- then that should get around any copy right issues.
