Adjusting an aftermarket fender to get the hood gap right.

  • Here is quick trick to adjust your hood if there is no adjustment and the rear needs to come up a little. Aftermarket parts don't always fit perfect but with a little work, they can look like they did. #shorts

    That isnt an aftermarket fender, its a junkyard used fender.

    • @vehcor
      @vehcor  ปีที่แล้ว +48

      So, if I put an aftermarket fender on a car, it becomes used and is no longer aftermarket? That was the case with this one. Good to know in your world, aftermarket parts stop being aftermarket upon installation. I guess I can just claim all my parts are used then. LMAO

      @@vehcor actually, I spent my time in the body shop and im quite a fine painter. Aftermarket parts are new reproduction parts made for a particular vehicle but not made on the same jigs and stamping/forming tools the OEM parts were made from. Thus, ill fitting parts, misaligned and tampered door and hood gaps and the like. If you needed to bed the hinge or the area it bolts up to to make a part align to a fender, it isnt the fenders problem. That fender you got from a junk yard, its dented and rusted, id be pissed if it were sold to me as aftermarket.

    • @vehcor
      @vehcor  ปีที่แล้ว +19

      I am aware of what an aftermarket fender fits like. Hence why I had to adjust it to fit. Yes, it was used, it was an aftermarket replacement from the first time the junkyard truck was wrecked, not OEM. To say a used part cannot be aftermarket is just ignorance and nothing else. Had it been an OEM replacement or the original fender, it would have fit much better. Now that you have all the info, you should see why you are wrong. The cause of the bad fitment was not that it was used but that it was aftermarket. I hope you learned something.

    Long ago a boss ordered a Fairmont station wagon. The hatch didn't shut right and seemed to leak. He took it back to the dealer and the body guy came out to the parking lot carrying a 6 ft 2x4, opened the hatch put the 2x4 across the opening near the top and pulled the hatch down, saying "every damn one these need adjustment". 2 pulls all was well.

    The body shop I took my 06 Tahoe to tried to install an aftermarket fender (RF) that I provided. It hit the door and there was no way to adjust it that much. I then purchased an OEM fender and it went right on with great lines all around except for the hood sitting too high at the hinge area as before. BTW, it wasn't even a CAPA fender if that makes any difference. But, my hood sat too high on both sides even though the minor collision damage was down lower on the RF and the hood not affected. I ended up getting a new OEM hood, and again, it lined right up great all around.

It's off by may be a few millimeters ,,, closer on the left side then on the right side.. a Mazda six When I bought it wasn't like that.. I did add foam insulation to damp in the vibration of the stereo speakers but I think that made the difference it's from opening and closing it so much I do it maybe three or four times a day sometimes more

Nothing fit right. I finally just did everything OEM (RF fender, bumper, bumper brackets and hood) and everything fit great. So glad that part is over so I can enjoy driving it and fix up other things.
