    TH-cam recommended this vid to me today, GREAT JOB on the build! Thanks for the link in your description! Your method is probably the lowest cost way to do it (when you factor in the tools), I'm sure it will help a lot of people. Someone also said they used a good sticky tape instead of silicone sealant and that worked for them too.

    Cool thing. 🥳😎👌🏼
    Been building one since yesterday too. 😂👌🏼
    But I built an extra intermediate chamber for the air that is sucked in.
    A UV-C lamp (15 watts) was installed in the area for pre-filtration.

    If I had to do it again, I would use a bigger container. Alternatively, I would have placed the fan in the back, bottom corner and the HEPA filter to the left of the container instead of the middle. I notice that there is some overlap with the side of the filter and the fan chassis. In that region, airflow is reduced. Also, I use it upside-down because I notice that the overhang caused by the lid causes eddies of turbulent air. When I flip it, I can avoid that turbulence better. Also, I highly advise using DAP Ultra Clear instead of any kind if silicone, it's way easier to work with and bonds better to poly/plastics.

      How big of a container would you recommend? A 100qt perhaps? Fan in the back bottom right? Filter or both filters on the front left? Good ideas for sure

    That isn't actually going to get you true laminar flow, but it will suffice as an FFU.
    However, you have no prefilter to extend the life of the HEPA filter, and you have sealed the HEPA filter inside that box with no way to change it without removing all of that silicone. So in probably less than a year that thing is going to be blowing all kinds of contaminates everywhere.

    • @JSquared3214
      @JSquared3214  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I fully agree with you in all aspects. When I was putting it together I was thinking of a way to add a way to remove/replace the main HEPA filter. A little while later I was thinking of a way to add a pre-filter to the fan. I hope to have a professional setup sometime in the future, but I wanted to try this out. I cover up the main filter in between uses with the piece that was cut out from the bin.
      Used it a total of three or four times and have been extremely fortunate with no contam yet. I do agree though. Like you said, probably a little while later and I won't be having too good of a time. Especially if I leave it exposed to the environment.
      Thanks for your comment!

    • @DangerRussDayZ6533
      @DangerRussDayZ6533 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@JSquared3214 maybe you could make a little frame that the filter fits very snuggly inside of, and silicone the frame. Otherwise I'd say build the entire thing out of wood. I think you can spray those filters down with lysol periodically as well.. might extend it's life.

    • @svgs650r
      @svgs650r ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually… over time as the HEPA filter loads it becomes even more efficient/cleaner but the blower fan will struggle to maintain ample flow especially the type of fan shown in this video.
      A true HEPA filter will have a designated flow rate cfm/mps at a specific static pressure in in/hg or Pa… so a clever fella would put a pressure gauge in the plastic tub and dial in the desired static pressure spec’d for that particular HEPA with the rheostat and the cfm/volume will be in the filters sweet spot for velocity and cfm (laminar flow)

    • @DangerRussDayZ6533
      @DangerRussDayZ6533 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@svgs650r so you're saying that proper laminar flow hoods don't have to replace their HEPA filters ever?

    • @svgs650r
      @svgs650r ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DangerRussDayZ6533 ummmm… no I didn’t say anything of the kind.
      A filter on the low pre/intake side of the blower fan Ex. MERV-9/10 will greatly extend the life of the HEPA filter on the high pressure/discharge side of the blower fan.

      Inspired by or stolen? Different style filters, different style box, and different style fan. Seems like gordotek may have used 7suns poor man's flowhood design as a proof of concept, but to me its a pretty different (but similar) design🤷🏻 looking to build something similar this weekend, so thanks for mentioning the 7suns one, I hadn't seen his build before today. @@jeremykenward3082 Yes I had never even heard of 7suns build before, I just looked it up, uhh NO, my design is nothing like his haha other than the fact that they are both laminar flow boxes. He uses expensive filters and fans and a wooden box, and seems to be claiming its a great way to go if you can trash pick a fan? Hahah... smh no I would not recommend his design at all. Also he uses side walls / fins, this is NOT recommended, if you look up modern portable professional laminar flow units sold for the medical industry, you will see they do NOT use side walls/fins, that is obsolete thinking, they actually cause a vacuum to form which results in turbulent air (the opposite of what you want).
