    So here's a tip for drilling holes in plastic. Start the hole, but just let the center cut in. Then, switch the drill to REVERSE. Then drill the hole. The drill bit will create friction, and melt the hole to a perfect circle, and there won't be jagged edges, and there is less of a chance of the hole cracking from the drill.

      I also find that Blue Taping both sides of the hole help tremendously. I just drilled 2 4" holes in a tub with Blue tape on both sides without an issues. Of course I went slow. But it was an none issue.

    I'd recommend doing an open agar plate test to test the efficacy of this system rather than just relying on the pollutant meter you have. Would make a good follow up video.

    note that you cannot have the uv light on while working in the box or it will damage your eyes and microbes require at least 15 minutes exposure to kill them. "Long-term exposure to even small amounts of UV radiation can increase your risk of developing a cataract or macular degeneration. UV exposure adds up over time. Long-term UV exposure can also causes tissue elevations on the surface of your eye. These are called pingueculae and pterygia. Using sunglasses faithfully when outdoors may limit these." Also, I would recommend at least a triple layer MERV 16 material.

      Perhaps adding a metal reflector shield so the uv is never going directly into your eyes but only down towards your workspace? To be fair I'd actually be interested to see if one could find a smaller rectangular hepa filter that could be mounted in the "back" of the box to create positive pressure that could blow out the arm holes...

    Why not use a vacuum cleaner hepa filter, those are relatively cheap... also don't ever work with the UV light turned on, it will burn your skin and eyes! he should have explained that the uv should be only used to disinfect the area prior to using it, not while you are working.

      The plastic should be enough to block the UV-c rays. Granted you don't want to spend a lot of time with your hands in the box, but if you multiply time spent by 10, so 15 minutes times 10, assume 150 minutes of uv exposure. How many of you would think twice about being in sunlight for 150 minutes? Wear sunscreen if you're really worried. Or you know, long sleeves and rubber gloves. UV lights can be very dangerous if used improperly, but a few VERY simple steps make them just another tool.

    OK I have two points to help out all the people below having problems with 1. not enough pressure to push air through the filter and 2. the people who are concerned about air moving in the box.
    1. Its a bit of work, but if you disassemble the A/C infinity fan unit and turn the individual fans around inside the unit. the fan will now be sucking air through the filter instead of trying to blow it through. The air wont "bounce" off the filter.
    now install the fans INSIDE the box so its sucks air through the grill which is now outside the box and is sucking air through the filter into the box (still positive pressure in the box) It takes up a bit of space in the box, i know. but it works better.
    2. The reason we want STILL air in a SAB is because the air isn't filtered, Its full of particles. we want the particles to settle out of the air and on the surfaces of the box, so it does not land on our culture/spawn/agar.
    but once the air is filtered and there are longer any particles in the air. it can move around all it wants. because there are no longer any particles that can settle on our culture/spawn/agar.
    I hope this helps a little

    I've had sab boxes explode on me almost melted my gloves to my hands 😆 whenever I used bleach and or aerosol disinfectant instead of alcohol I'd have smaller deformed fruits. I don't know I'm liking the side mount design. Another guy just cuts a hole for a lam filter & epoxied it directly to a tote & strapped a variable fan to the side of the tote. I like this better because the box acts as a shield

  • @ryanpongracz8051

    I did this but way bigger, with a 20*20 box fan, and a much bigger tote, and used three filters, one pre 2200 HEPA 20*20*1, and two, 2800 HEPA 20*20*1 stacked and taped so the fan is enclosed by filters, no contams fam. Uvc in box, holes for outward air on right.

  • @ronaldtownsend5745
    @ronaldtownsend5745 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The fan should be mounted so as to create positive pressure within the SAB. In other words, the fan should be blowing air into the box. The filter should be a HEPA filter which will trap particulates down to 0.3 microns and keep them from entering the box. The positive pressure will keep particulates from entering the box from all the holes that have been drilled in it. I personally would not drill the small holes in the sides. The holes for your arms should be enough. If you are making a gloved box then you need the holes in the side.

    • @TOPskunkfisher
      @TOPskunkfisher 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you watch the video it is setup to produce positive pressure, this is a killer budget flow tote not a professional laminar flow hood, clearly not the same but definitely better than a still air box or nothing at all and it's a minimum investment

    Also your description of this being a negative air pressure system is false. This is positive because the intake flow is higher than the out take flow. In order for a flow to be negative there would have to be a seal to the environment to start, and the air intake would have to be lower than the outtake therefore making a suction effect in the intake flow and creates a slight vacuum to the room, thus making it negative pressure. This is definitely positive pressure.

    UVC light looks really cool? Really?
    Even tho most UVC lights cant penetrate clear materials, sticking your hands into a container with UVC light is such a stupid idea... and some of the UVC light will make it through the plastic container soo....
    Please learn about saefty precautions with UVC light...

    This is similar to the bag method. I like the UV idea. A little closet with uv lighting and this positive flow device can make a good budget lab.. I would flip on the UV and use the bag method by turning on one of the HEPA purifiers they use in that tek on a little table in a closet. Let it run with light on for 30 min the enter and it should be pretty clean, minus you lol

  • @ryanpongracz8051

    Why is the position of your filter catching the debris IN your box? Why not attach the filter to the outside and catch it in the filter before the air enters? That way when changing out it's also less likely to get anything in the box.

    • @ryanpongracz8051
      @ryanpongracz8051 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My solution was to put one pre filter on intake side, and two stacked on outtake side. Encased fan in filters to stop contams. Will kill fan faster than intended, but who cares, they are cheap and this works way better this way.

Mushrooms are so low on the DEA's Radar I don't think you need to be concerned. It's catching up close to how much weed is legal.

    I see Willy still complicating things as much as possible. Wow keep it simple man; start with the simplest set up and find that threshold before contamination happens.
    I’ve yet to use anything more than a simple still box after spraying it with Lysol; or even a Martha works awesome, just disinfect well and no need for all this other crap and expenses that not necessary at all.

    I think just a true "still" box is better. Why move air if you can just work in a well cleaned still air box? This seems to be a "worst of both worlds" sort of idea. I also do NOT want alot of stuff in my still box. Just more to clean. I've got a small plastic lidded box for my clean tools and an alcohol spray bottle. That's all that stays in there.
