Thanks Troy for this channel and your lessons. I’ve been playing around with my Dulcimer since I built it from your kit about 2 weeks ago. It’s been fun and these lessons are at just the right pace to add some dimension to just playing the melody line. That book that came with the kit is also nice and helped me transpose from some of the songs in my other books. Thanks again for making music simply nice! Love my kit Dulcimer and have received many compliments on it. I highly recommend your kit for anybody that is able to build one. You were very helpful with my phone call questions during the building process as well. I pray all the best for you and your team in 2022.
Hi Todd, I just bought three of these. And then I find this video. Thank you so much. I can't wait to learn this. Thanks for your hard work in making these video to learn by.
You are making it hard for me not to buy one of the dulcimers. I am probably going to go ahead and check out your site to see what you have for sale. I know the key to it all is - practice, practice, practice. Thanks for another great video.
Hey Esther thanks for the comments! I know you will have a lot of fun learning and playing the dulcimer! ( I know I sure have) If you have any questions feel free to call the shop (417) 334-1395 or email Jeremy at info@cedarcreekdulcimers.com Thanks again! Troy
This video explains a lot that I wanted to know. I've watched some of the real masters of this instrument on TH-cam, in particular Jessica Comeau and tried to get some ideas. What is going on just happens too fast. In this video you have given me a foundation for playing that I can expand an incredible amount. Now finally I can get some real enjoyment out of my mountain dulcimer. I am most grateful.
@@DrMerle-gw4wj you can also slow down any video on TH-cam by hitting the 3 dots in the upper right hand corner (technically, you can also speed up videos when you are ready for that as well).
I love these lessons. I have been trying to play and I can pick out many hymns with the melody string and it sound good but has been lacking something. Watching your lessons the songs have been missing the harmony. I do have to train my fingers. I have been playing my index and not my thumb. Also I like the tuning. Are there more lessons? Thank you for taking time to help us. Most lessons I see are the DAD. Thanks again
Hey Deanna thanks for watching! Yes not playing with the noter does allow you to use other fingers to add harmony. As far as sliding your fingers or picking them up as you play is up to you, what sound good to you for the song your playing.(Most of the time I have a tendency to do both during the song) and remember playing with the noter is traditional, so if you prefer playing with the noter that's just fine too!
I feel dumb I've watched a lot of different videos I've been playing messing with the dulcimer for a week. But I did not already know this harmonizing thing on the base or middle stream back one or two Frets that's quite good to know
Hi, I have two dulcimers. Possibly even one having been built by you but sticker removed. What strings do you recommend? Or perhaps you sell string sets?
Hey StopFear, this is Troy. Thanks for your inquiry! Yes I am still kicking! We have strings at our Branson shop and can mail them right to you. (417) 334-1395 or www.cedarcreekdulcimers.com However if you have a music store close by that sells individual strings you can use loop end banjo strings: "G".020 for your bass, "D".010 for your other 3 .--------- The first videos were recorded on DVD. But, back then the resolution wasn't that great! State of the art at the time, but nothing compared to what our phones can do now days! Hope you have fun getting into playing the dulcimer! Subscribe to our TH-cam page to catch all the latest videos.
Hi Troy - I missed lesson one but see now that you are tuned to E-B-B. I have been playing for a while, tuned to DAD. Is there any way you can play the way you teach the harmony in DAD tuning? Thank you in advance - Cornelia
Cornelia, Thank you for the Like! Unfortunately the harmonies in the Mixaloydan (DAD) tuning are not as simple as the Ionian tunning. One thing you can try is following 1 fret back on the middle string. This works in many places in your song. Also remember instead of the key of E B B like I prefer you can use the D A A Ionian tuning instead. That way you only have to retune the first 2 strings. Try it out, I think you will find yourself progressing very quickly! Troy
If you go to our TH-cam page( Cedar creek dulcimers TH-cam) in the play list select watch instructional videos. Lesson #1 is the first video. Thanks! Have fun!

So adding the harmony is why you don’t use a noter? But you still slide your fingers back and forth instead of picking them up?

The dulcimer that you are using in this video - what is the color of it, and is it the Cedar Creek, or is it the Classic model?
Hey Esther, the dulcimer in this video is a walnut classic with a walnut top as well.

These videos are fantastic! Thanks so much for posting these. Look forward to the next lesson. God bless.
@@heatherwatterson590 Thank you! We hope to have lesson 3 out in the Fall.
Love these sessions! One small correction though. In Ode to Joy the numbers shown on the screen should read 5568 8654 3345 433
Hey thanks for watching! Remember, between the 6th and 7th fret, there is a 61/2 fret that's not part of the scale.
