Yay! I’m inspired 😃💕
How do you play E minor
E minor on chord stick
@clairerichardson3283 3rd fret on the first string, 1st fret on middle, 2nd fret on bass. On that lesson I mentioned in my other text you will learn G C D E Em A Am Bm F F#m chords witch allows you to play in the keys of G A C D and E Em Am Bm!
So sorry, I was talking Dulcimer not chord stick! Em on chord stick I 2nd fret on first and last string!
How do you play a D on a dulcimer tuned to GDD to play with piano and guitar
@clairerichardson3283 first string 2nd fret, bass string 1st fret is one of your D chords. If you go to our cedar creek Dulcimer TH-cam page and select mountain Dulcimer Basics lesson #3 I will show you how to play in multiple keys on your dulcimer all without retuning or using a capo!
How are the frets labeled. Open is a G chord. Is the next fret G#
@@clairerichardson3283 you got it! Since it's chromatic, all the half steps are there as well.
This is similar to santoor
Is there anyway of purchasing a Troy built electric dulcimer from Cedar Creek? Have been trying to find one for years now...
@ValleyGoatsandSheep Thank you for watching and for your request! Our builder Chas has been battling leukemia for the past 4 years. Thankfully, he is finally feeling strong enough to start back in the shop. For about a month now he has been working slowly on his own building about 4 regular Dulcimers a week. He said after he begins to feel more familiar with everything ( the chemo made him forgetful and confused in the shop) he would be ready for me to come work with him and re show him how to make the electric bodies. (I will still be putting all the electronics in myself). So hopefully it won't be too much longer before we will have them again! I'll keep your text as a reminder for me to let you know. Thanks again! Troy
We are very pleased to hear he is feeling better! Please do keep us on your list!
Please play the right side. The bass. of mine has no way to tune. Trying to get reference. Love the hammer selections. How do they sneak a guitar pick in that one?
What strum pattern are you playing? I think I heard strum pick in parts of the song
@jerriedennis4137 Thanks for watching! Whenever I'm learning a new song, I always start by strumming in one direction, sort of like clapping your hands along with the song. Then, as I get more familiar with the tune, the back strums just seem to naturally come. So I'm not necessarily thinking of a specific pattern.(But that's just my process). If I were to break down my strum for this song, it would be: down down up, up down up (down being away from you, up being towards you). The picking at the bridge, for me, is kind of random as well. I start with picking the first string at each chord change, then just randomly pluck each of the other strings to fill the space. Basically, whatever sounds good to me at the time! Hope this makes sense to you and helps in some way. Thanks again! Troy
How do you play this is DAD?
I use traditional Ionian tuning. Most know it as DAA. However, that is just one of the many keys you can tune to. Here I am tuned to the key of G. So that makes my bass G , small strings DD. My two favorite keys are EBB (the key of E) and for more versatility, the key of G. I talk more about this on mountain Dulcimer Basics lesson #1 and the cord lesson mountain Dulcimer Basics lesson #3 on our TH-cam page. Go to Playlist and select instructional videos. Thanks again! Troy
I'm "with" those who would prefer a flipped dulcimer. They've conversed on other videos and I agree with those who say they'd like it flipped. I do say that it could be equated to learning three languages (like I speak myself) from left to right....... then attempting to take-on Arabic or Hebrew. It's just flat-out difficult on the brain. I've read that a flipped dulc exists but struggle to find any videos of it.
Yesss me 2 for my son, he likes to learn. Wherevis the link? 🙈 tis is a shorthy , he can not speed-down.
@ljbmv7305 Thanks for watching! If you touch where you see the >mountain Dulcimer Basics. That will take you to the first lesson. Or you can type in Cedar Creek dulcimers TH-cam page on your search bar. The first lesson is called:mountain Dulcimer Basics Lesson #1. Thanks again! Troy
my dulcimer doesnt have so many frets so it doesnt sound exactly the same as it gets past 5 frets-i wish there were more merlin strumstick resources!!
Great first lesson
Luv this. I’ll be subscribing. Thx.
Truly beautiful music to my ears.
Excellent sound
Never seen one sounds so good 😊😊
Love it! Singing right along.
Show
Wonderful
Fantastic!
That sounds really dope. Also what amp are you using?
@elnyoutube123 Thanks for watching! If you go to the "Smoke on the Water" tutorial on our TH-cam page, about 13 minutes in, you will find the demonstration on the effects I use for that song. The effects here are very similar, except I'm using about half the gain and a little more brightness on the tone knob. On this song, the "Pockrock" is all I'm using, and as I show on that tutorial, it has it own built-in amp effects. So that allows me to bypass another amp and simply plug right into my phone to record. So, the same sound could be made out of any speaker or PA system since the Pockrock is creating the effects. Thanks again! Troy 🎵🎵
Fantastic!
You need to come out with a song /instructional book for all these great songs! Love it boys!
Y'all are fantastic! I bought a dulcimer years ago from your company. It is beautiful! Your customer service has been great too! I gotta try some of these songs out.
Thanks for watching! Also Thank you for the Dulcimer purchase! At the end of the video (after the karoke version) there will be tabs and Chords for the song. In between the practice song and the karoke play along song will be some instructions on playing. If there are no instructions, that means everything we're doing was already shown on a previous song! Thanks again! Have fun! Troy
Aaaaaaaand kills the good bacteria in your septic system.
NICE 💯🇺🇸🙏🏽☝️THANK YOU GODBLESSESYOU
That one is sweet looking
I wish I had a dulcimer.
@Daniele-hh6gt Hey Daniele, thanks for watching! Give Matthew a call at the shop in Branson. He has many to choose from, including used and even cardboard Dulcimers!(417)334-1395 Thanks again! Troy
Awesome 👍
I love the sound of the dulcimer and have wanted one for ages but I was afraid to spend the money on it and find out I couldn't play it well. I am thinking on getting one now, they look like a lot of fun and I could probably be successful in learning to play.💙
@crystalheart9 Crystal, thanks for watching! I always say the Dulcimer is the instrument for the rest of us! We want to play something, but never had much success with anything else! If you're looking for a dulcimer, Matthew has a nice selection of beginner models to choose from. Everything from the cardboard dulcimer to a couple of used models to new hourglass models starting at $259.99. The Branson shop # is 417 334-1395. HE also has a lot of music for the traditional tuning like I use in all my videos. Thanks again! Troy
@@cedarcreekdulcimers5054 Thank you so much for your response. I clicked on the link for cedarcreekdulcimers and it said it couldn't find the page? Can you direct me to a working link so I can visit their website? 😍💙
nice playing❤
Fake
He's quite real
Sly, thanks for watching! Also, thanks for the "you're just too good to be true" comment! 😊 All kidding aside, if you would like to see how I can get so much sound out of this instrument, watch my "Smoke on the Water" tutorial on the Cedar Creek Dulcimers TH-cam Page. At the end of that video, I show how this works! (Even the thunder sound was live) I adjusted the sensitivity to go off when I gave it a hard strum over the middle pick up. Also, if you watch the full video of this song, you'll even hear another voice I get out of my dulcimer on the intro! Thanks again for watching! Troy
If you don't want to watch the whole video, the "Sound " tutorial starts at about 13 minutes in.
Wow... Troy, you seem like a natural teacher. This explained so much, and has kept that excitement to learn on my new-to-me dusty strings 12/11. You busted the mystery that I may be limited choosing the smaller version; so, huge thank-you for your video and knowledge! Im just waiting for a tuning key, and will be saving this as a staple learning tool
I hate that you're calling it a chord stick. I bet it's because of a certain someone that claims that he created the instrument when in fact it was created by people in the Appalachian Mountains many years ago
That one sounds good!
Wonderful, can we get sheet music to it anywhere?
Walter, thanks for the comment! At the very end of this video (after the Karoke version), there are pages with the words and tabs and words and lyrics. Take a screenshot to save on your device! Thanks again! Troy
Who makes the tuner that you use?
Where can I get the note strips?
Praise the lord Jesus thank you for your spirit Mr Troy . ❤
Thank you this is very interesting. Sounds beautiful 😊
❤
❤
Looks like you swiped my Violin design?
Great video, thank you!
But how do you know which wire to put on each
We like to put the strings on in a clockwise manner. Starting with your melody string on the left side tuner that is closest to you. Then string 2 is put on the left side tuner just above. Next the middle string is put on the top right tuner. Then finally the bass string goes on the right tuner closest to you. If you're using strings for the traditional tuning like we are (DAA) the first 3 strings are all the same, so it doesn't matter if you put them on tuner 1, 2, or 3. The last string (Bass) will be the thicker wound string in your pack.
Nice. Want to hear more. Need more lessons. Great idea. Great job!
Hey Kim thanks for the comment! If you are new to the traditional dulcimer tuning like I use in all my videos. Go to our cedar creek dulcimers TH-cam page and select instructional videos. Lesson #1 teaches how to play melodies and add rhythm. After you have half a dozen one line songs figured out, then move on to Lesson #2 to learn how to add harmonies to thoes songs. Then Lesson #3 will show you how to chord your dulcimer so you can play with other musicians or backup singers. My goal is to get you to the point where you are playing on your own as quickly as possible! If you would like to learn other techniques, start with song #1 in the Dulcimer Karoke series. If I am using a technique like a "hammer on" or a ("pull off ") I will have a tutorial in-between the practice song and the Karoke song. If I'm not using any new techniques then I've already shown on previous videos, I won't have any tutorials on those videos. Thanks again for watching! Keep having fun!
This instrument uses drumsticks for strings, if it is using drumsticks it is from the percussion family, a keyboard and string instrument does not use a simple drumstick like that, a heavy and strong technical detail. There is no reason or reason to want to play it as a keyboard or string instrument, it is completely distorting it. It's always just string percussion.
Beautiful! Blessings!
FYI, none of your links work. You may want to update them.
