Having already beat this on easy and medium, I killed the brain and began to rejoice, “I did it!! I finally-“ Brain pulls armor suit together and starts climbing after me (something that only happens on hard) “WHERES THE CONTROLLER!? PICK IT UP!!! I STILL NEED IT!!!”
This game is the quintessential definition of Nintendo Hard in all its glory. The game is hard enough in the lower difficulties, but in hard it really hands you your ass with enemies that fire ruthlessly with fast bullets giving you almost no time to dodge. And the 30 life code is not an option for you...it was taken out for the American release. To top it all off, you can't even get the best ending without beating hard. Earn your victory. Gotta love how they throw in that extra something where you have to kill the boss that one ...last...time. (I know my controller and hands were shaking like MAD when I saw this..."you gotta be SHITTING ME!!". What an experience that was.)
Great memories of beating this game. The ending was like a movie finish. The music was epic. Everyone cheering you when you land. Really made you feel like you made a great accomplishment
And honestly the ending when beating it on hard (which is shown in this video) is kind of sus anyway, even for the time. I mean, all you get is a few screenshots and a new ending theme, which hasn't been shown before.
I like how the dog is in the ending. The helicopter lands and everyone is cheering for you, but the dog that tried to kill you on level 1 is still there. I just beat the game on normal difficulty today, I really don't feel like playing through the game on hard just to see the ending, so I just watched it here.
Great ending music when on the chopper. A epic military styled fanfare, leadin in to a military styled drumming. Feels like you've saved the world. Much better than "hard corps" - wild rampant beat to the keyboardy screech noises going all over. Love the final boss music on this too.
The fact that Searle, or the brain, actually gives you a choice as to what form it's next attack should be does reflect on the possibility that Humanity, as a whole, is doomed to die from their own selfish decisions, regardless of alien intervention. Sounds pretty deep, doesn't it?
There's nothing like getting to the part at 3:23 and getting a game over at the end of it which happened to me, and I haven't touched the game in months due to the sheer piss off factor and no way to sit and get extra lives either. On the actual hardware too mind you!
There's an easy method of avoiding the snake; it never hits the lower-left corner on its first pass, and it never touches the ground in the same spot on two consecutive passes. Therefore, all you have to do is crouch in the lower left corner, and note the first place it touches after it passes over you; move there and crouch, and watch where it touches after passing over you that time; move there and watch where it touches the ground after passing over you that time; etc. until the attack ends.
Have you heard of Plok for the SNES? It's supposedly a kiddies' game because of the graphics, but it's harder than Contra III. I mean, I can't progress past a boss level ¼ into the game without using save states. And there aren't many continues. The bosses are actually 3 and attack you simultaneously, there isn't a strict pattern and even when you're lucky and hit them plenty of times, your health will run out in just 4 hits; the invincibility window after they hit you is like a second. I don't understand how people before the internet and emulators beat it.
@@WTFBOOMDOOMOMG I remember Plok! That game was super hard! I think I remember beating it when I was a kid tho, it was tough but idk… I think contra 3 on hard might be harder.. idk, I’d have to find and play plok again
That's not Red Falcon. That's actually Emperor Demon Gava (Jagger Froid in the US), which in it's second form is known as Brain Organism Searle. Red Falcon has no true form, but only an essence that will never truly die. You can kill it, but once it's body is destroyed, it will simply scurry away to find another host.
The 'glitch' with the stones isn't really a glitch...it has more to do with how your hitbox changes as you're lying down. When the character is lying on the ground his hitbox shrinks and a much smaller part of the sprite the only part vulnerable to hostile collision detection. Just so happens that this smaller space fits perfectly between the brain boss and the starting point of the gray stones. Or rather, the stones don't become 'hostile' until they make their first rotation, so...yeah. :)
Well, I learned that the official Japanese name of the alien that we all know as "Red Falcon" is "Emperor Demon Gyaba". The brain, on the other hand, is called "Brain Lifeform Sahl". And when Sahl gets that exoskeleton, it becomes "Crowd of 6 Ferometos"(which is a strange name, considering that the boss is just a single creature).
@dukepro95 It's a matter of timing your jumps over the "balls" or whatever they are. Some players will try to avoid getting that attack to begin with, but it is tricky to do so.
Wow man, that's really impressive. I remember beating this game on Hard when I was a teen... then I tried the Virtual Console. Normal Mode was cake, but I struggled to beat the FIRST stage on hard.
Not at all. If you're referring to the part where those balls roll over me without killing me, that's just taking advantage of an in-game hit-detection failure (I observed it in one other Contra 3 video on youtube and wanted to try it myself).
What do you mean, not a glitch? Why else wouldn't it kill me? As for the standard gun thing, I've not seen the entire fight done that way (though as you said it probably exists somewhere), but there's at least one fight I saw recently done mostly with that gun, but only because the player died and lost all the weapons.
This used to be ans still is a kick ass game. I bet many people that considers fps or any hd graphics like the best today's games, they couldn't finish this game. The only way to finish it today games is getting invincibility codes, infinite lives, all arms... Todays games are less challenging! period
He's not using a glitch. I didn't know about that position but you can tell it's no glitch. I've only beaten the boss after one continue using the weapons I got on the way =) Heh, beating him with only the standard gun? Someone's already done it, most likely. Now I need to do it as well. Sigh... thought I was done with the game =P
It's likely not a glitch. The boulders may seem to be touching you, but the programmers likely made that spot as a haven against the boulders; the player would find the spot too easily if it was where boulders did not fall. It's a hidden spot, not a glitch.
I play this with my uncle contra 3 with my uncle we've beaten easy mode and normal mode and now were' have hard mode the final boss rises up in that difficulty
Who the feck designed these games. This is friggin HARD! Glad I only rented this years ago. I'd have never finished this. (First few stages were fun though. Especially when playing with a friend.)
I dont think it should count if you use a glitc in the game... seems too cheap. Anyways, I've yet to see anyone beat him on hard, w/ not cheats/glitches, and only using the standard gun. That would be the hardest gaming challenge ever.
blues713317 Honestly, the music made it worth it to me, with the credits. It wasn't about the destination but the journey. Then again, I've been playing this game since I was 4.
Its not a glitvh!!! I have the game and if u lie in that position the balls will not hit u, maybe is a mistake of the game but he isnt using any cheat!!

Que tenga valor sentimental perfecto, pero que te lo hayas pasado en hard con 13 años, si claro sobre todo
Nice to see a comment section not filled to the rim with "DURRRR HARD CORPS IZ BETTER" the internet was a different beast altogether

Bill: Nah, I'm good down here dude. By the way, could you fire this missile up. so that I can get home early?

@@blackjaguar324 I can't believe I last played Contra 3 9 whole years ago. I was just thinking about the game today.
It implies that they were able to tame the mutated dogs (Or alien dogs...)

Dude, you just gave me a new strat, thanks.
I can’t tell how satisfying i felt when I beat hard mode at first I beat it with my brother but then I did it by myself and it’s just a great feeling
And people say "Dark Souls" was hard. Try beating this game on hard without any save states and you'll understand the meaning of "hard".

That spiky formation is my favorite, since by that point I will have lost my weapons/bombs and can use the refill.
4:04 cant stop crying ... good memories and feeling. :')
Best memories from my childhood
You make that so much easier than it actually is...
@wtgAVO Definitely no cheats. Just poor hit-box placement on the games part. This guy is good.
As I mentioned below, I did not cheat. I was simply exploiting an in-game hit detection failure.

HAHAHAHAHA look at the alien dog at the end LMFAO !
You got to shoot before it appears, so the reimaining crush effect will damage it while performing its attack/defense. Never forget to dodge.
to me, the snake ball is pretty easy to avoid. that's because i've learned the pattern. but the indestructible blue ball, HARD AS SHIT!
the most of konami games have a special ending in hard mode
No, they have an ACTUAL ending on hard mode. On normal mode it tells you to piss off and beat it on hard mode to get the real ending.
@dukepro95 It's a matter of timing your jumps over the "balls" or whatever they are. Some players will try to avoid getting that attack to begin with, but it is tricky to do so.
That attack moves like a snake around the room. Very hard to avoid. It almost assuredly would have killed me.

double clash is risky. I like to try and bring flame to the final boss. I think its one of the best weapons in contra 3.

The brain is a fortune teller
@SigmaXVirus What about the names of the other bosses? And where did you get your info, if you don't mind me asking?
It's one of the mutant dogs that appears as an enemy in the first stage.
Yes. It's easier to use an emulator's recording functions. I also live far away from my consoles, so I couldn't use them even if I wanted to.
Are you playing this on an emulator? The sounds are a bit clunky by comparison to the game on the console.
