@@hbk92701It's absolutely not worth it for the 600 bucks, wtf? The card is barely faster than the 3080. I don't upgrade until I can get like 2x the performance for similar money.
@@hbk92701 assuming he got the 10GB version, at 2k he would be mostly fine maybe turn few things down, save until next gen and get some more significant upgrade.
That's why they're calling it sidegrading in the video. Not really an upgrade, main reason would be to gain access to native Frame Generation. I have a 3080 but I'm waiting for 50 series or 60 series.
Don't spend your money on a slight bump when your GPU will work mostly fine, so long as you are willing to turn off or turn down settings or resolution. However, if you are going to do it, sell your current GPU to cut the bill down.
You gotta think as well though, his resale value on his 3080 is higher now than later down the line. After selling that he will only be paying a fraction to upgrade to a modern card so for a lot of people its worth it.
@@watchmejumpstart24 I’d get MAYBE $450 for my 3080 12gb strix card. Then I need to find a 4090 and will pay $1800 or whatever for it? It’s insane man. The price is too damn high.
Yeah I'm currently on 2070 and I start to feel like I need an upgrade because 8gb is just not enough for some games, but even then it's such a small amount of games that I could probably wait till 5070 of sorts. If I had 3080 I wouldn't even think about upgrading
I upgraded from GTX 970 to RTX 3080 12GB and the only thing that makes me to think about a better GPU is performance in VR games. I still play on 1080p@144Hz monitor (I have 3 of the same model, but play on one, multitask on other, used them for racing games, but moved to VR since). I play Cyberpunk with path tracing locked on 60 FPS with DLSS Quality, Ray Reconstruction and DLSS Sharpening 0.80 and it looks good (without Ray Reconstruction artifacts look terrible with that resolution, RR is like magic). Frame Gen mod also works pretty well, but even around 60 FPS is enough in that game for me. I'll move to 1440p when I get some RTX 5000 or 6000 GPU when I'll feel like my current card is not enough anymore, but other than VR games, I usually play less demanding indie titles which are way more creative and fun than current AAA titles, where 99% of them is just boring and more of the same I've already seen in other games (I play since the 90s).
@@Kondiqq I’m using the 3080 12gb strix OC with a 1440p 165hz VRR and I’m doing great. No feeling any upgrade pressure anywhere close to me atm. Prob easily make it to be 6000 Gen before I seriously consider an upgrade. Unless some amazing game comes out that demands it. Sadly that seems unlikely
Not considering the other options like lossless scaling that has frame gen for any game. I would say it is a very good option especially since they just updated it to better work with ui elements.
It works but at lower quality looking wash out, like the textures are radaring at much lower res is FSR + FG not DLSS with FG. Also has lots of visual bugs.
FSR3 FG is very choppy for me on my 3080, for some reason I can't get a stable image using FG it always looks like there's heavy stutters although the frame graph shows otherwise. Especially when RT is involved, it becomes a stutterfest. You have any tips to get it working better?
You have a god damn 3080! Your PC is better than like 85% of Gaming PCs out there currently. And the 85 is generous it's probably in the 90s. You don't upgrade, you enjoy your PC! You still have a few good years of gaming on it.
Yeah, but it's hard to just wait, and hope they are more reasonably priced. I want to upgrade my 6750. I will probably buy a 4080, but I'm pretty sure I will regret it.
Sure, let's blow $600 on a card that's 10% faster just for frame generation. Not even the 4080 Super would be a worthy upgrade from a 3080. Too little of an upgrade for the money spent.
I have a 4060 laptop and 3080ti desktop GPU. My 3080ti gets around 4K90 Ultra everything in Starfield and I recently just booted it up on my new laptop and get around 70 on the same settings. With Quality DLSS Framegen, I am getting a locked smooth 120hz capped with Rivatuner, on a laptop that is less than an inch thick and cannot even tell the difference because it's so well done. You have no idea what you are talking about.
if it's a 10gb 3080 then you could run into RAM issues at high resolution. But like that's NVIDIA being shitty / stingy with VRAM, a 3080 is more than strong enough power wise. They did this crappy planned obsolescence thing to force people to upgrade from cards that should be more than good enough.
Im still using a 1080ti and have no need to upgrade. The only reason I would upgrade is as part of my gamedev job when I need path tracing, but in Unreal Engine it's not realtime anyway yet.
I went from GTX 970 to GTX 1070 ti and it was a MASSIVE upgrade. Well over 2x the performance for only $150 CAD more. Nowadays the gains aren't as big, going from 3080 to 4080 is only about a 40%-50% increase for $600 CAD higher MSRP, in reality $700-$800 more.
I would definitely wait another gen so at least the current gen GPU prices drop a bit and this person would also have more options to choose from. Also gives them a chance to save up to really get a meaningful upgrade.
I upgrade every generation, specially now that Newegg has a GPU trade in program, if the 5090 where to come out at lets say $1800, Newegg offers $1500 for my 4090 which means I would only have to pay a $300 difference, holding out is also stupid since your GPU will be worth way less and you end up paying more for the new Gen GPU.
Wait for the 5000 series, friend. I have a 10gb 3080 ftw3 ultra and it is still rock solid at 1440p. I don't plan on upgrading until the 5000 series, at the absolute soonest, and more than likely at the 5000 series refresh in 2026, hell maybe even not until the 6000 series.
Same. Probably going to wait till 5080 super or 6080. And even that depends if there is going to be more reasonably priced 32"+ 4K high refreshrate displays available then. 3080 is going to be fine at 1440p for a while.
also running 3080 ftw3 ultra which to my way of thinking was the nicest 3080 of the gpu apocalypse. it doesn't matter but what brand will u choose next time? i''d prolly just get TUF but it's sad EVGA is no more
@@rupert3k yeahhh EVGA was the best, both in power and customer service quality. My orignal 3080 ftw3 ultra actually died on me randomly. I was outside of the 3 year warranty, but figured I had nothing to lose by hitting them up to ask for an RMA. To my surprise, EVGA honored the warranty, even tho I was past it, and replaced my 3080 for free. Seriously the best customer service I've ever had in my life. Saved me from spending $800+ right now on a 4000 series replacement lol. When I do eventually upgrade tho, yeah I'll probably just get the TUF model or maybe even FE
I am rocking my 3060Ti and I probably can hold onto it for like 3-4 years more. I can comfortably game at 1440p @ 60+ Fps most of the time and I won't shy away from lowering my resolution to 1080p if the games don't run properly. The only time I would be concerned is I have a game that I really really really want to play like a New Doom or From Software game...and I can't do 1440p @90+ fps (except fromsoft they have to do something about that 60hz cap) on optimized settings, man I am changing my card like I do my bedsheet.
It's true tbh, it's the minimum threshold for when I uprade a GPU, it's just too expensive. It's not a big deal because next gen the 5080 will be faster and cheaper than the 4090.
@@mattburg94 This sounds like someone who upgraded after 1 generation and is trying to justify to themselves. I've never upgraded after a single generation. The 4090 happens to be powerful enough but there is nothing wrong with not wanting to spend £1600 for that privilege of upgrading early. At least 5080 should be around 4080 super price. You're right 6070 will be even faster but I can't wait that long and they will be new stuff out then that is harder to run, I run 4k 120hz and care about high framerates and using ray tracing, 6070 isn't doing that on games in 2027.
im holding out on something that provides 4090 equivalent performance at 300w or less. My 3080 is undervolted to 300ish watts under load and idk if I want any more heat in my room than that. would ideally like to drop down to a 250w card but I wouldnt consider upgrading to a less than 2x perf card.
@leopoldbuttersstotch73 Yup. It's cool, but doesn't really add much to the enjoyment of a game. Same with ray tracing. The "standard" lighting in most new games is great
at the beginning of this month I swaped my trusty 1060 6GB for a 4060Ti 16GB and quickly noticed it is not a GPU fitting my 1440p 165Hz display. I changed it for a 4070Super and I am really happy with what I've got. 652€ was still pricy but it'll do more than fine until 50 series rolls around. I might not even need to purchase a new card.
Honestly i am more looking into this as i need to do a Platform Upgrade for my rig (AM4, 3900X). And considering i got my rig and cooler before AM5 came out, i have no AM5 adapting brackets for my cooler. So the final cost of going to a 7800X3D with a half-decent mobo (B650 with WiFi 6E) and a replacement/upgrade to my cooler (Liquid Freezer from Arctic so would upgrade from 2 to 3). Would be >700$> I can get a Prebuilt with a 7800X3D, 32GB of DDR5, presumably a B650 Board, and a 4070 Super for around 2K rn. Which is a jump. But i can rip out the parts of my old PC (mainly the Storage) and swap it with the one that comes with that PC and sell off my old rig wholesale for a good chunk of that value. (A 3900X+32GB+3080-12GB PC probably should sell for >1200$)
I’m running a Aorus Master 3080 and personally I have absolutely no need to upgrade as I can still play 98% of the games in 1440 P with incredible frame rates. Obviously that changes when I turn on RT effects. But as it stands, I am still more than happy with my 3080.
I would wait to have at least 2x the performance for a similar price to upgrade. Not even the 4090 is 2x the performance of a 3080 😅. Probably it needs 2 more GPU generations before worth the upgrade.
Bought the ASUS TUF Factory Overclocked 3080 Ti when it released (little embarrassed at what I paid for it tbh). Have no intention of upgrading any time soon, the frame gen stuff of the 4000 series sound great, but I played through and finished Cyberpunk 2077 for the first time after the 2.0 release, and it was fantastic on the 3080 Ti, looked awesome on my 1440p 140hz monitor, with ray tracing on. I had a GTX 1080 when Cyberpunk released in 2020, and given the state that game was in back then, it did not do so well. My Next PC upgrade will likely be a 40th birthday present to myself in 2026, ready for GTA 6, which seems probable that will be when it comes to PC.
Still juicing out the absolute latest bits with my GTX 1070 until RTX 5000 series in 2025 releases. FSR 3 mod really does do wonders in making this happen! Be happy or content with what you have and try to make the most of it! 😉
I think that's a decent time period for changing the card...skip three generations and get onboard with the latest and greatest. You will be blown away by DLSS and DLSS3, Frame Generation and whatever new that NVIDIA is about to bring. Those cards are going to last even longer. DLSS and FG are magic for your games.
I was in a pinch and upgraded from a 1060 6 to 2060S last year, even that was a significant difference to me... Even though it was on sale I wish I was able to get a 30 or 40 series card for that price because I have to stick with this for a long time
@@Zippy_Zolton This was not a bad move at all! I'm thinking of buying a used 2070. Not do you only gain a noticable enough performance bump, but you get a lot of RTX series features like hardware raytracing support, DLSS, Mesh Shaders, VRR over HDMI, DSC over DP, better AVC encoding and probably more.
This was a huge upgrade for me. Went from 3080 mobile laptop to the 4070 super ti. I thought mobile version is the same as 3080 but boy was i wrong. I got the 2x the performance. The change from laptop to desktop helped
I've long made it a rule to upgrade my gpu every other generation so I get a rally noticeable improvement. The only exception was to jump from a gtx 970 to a 1080ti because the 1080ti was a fluke, a jump in performance you'll never see again.
The way I look at it I've got a 3080 Asus strix and it plays ultra in 4k above 60fps no problem what is the point unless I see at least 50-60% increase what is the point
me upgrading from gt240 (512mb) to gtx 750ti (2GB) after 6 years. upgrading from gtx 750ti to rtx 3060 (12gb) after 9 years. i mean, the durability of card nowadays is much longer. if you already have 3080 why chasing another series? while your graphic card still can do the job? unless you wanna change your gaming experience like in 4k or something, there is no reason to.
the super comes with an msrp of 600$ and the soon to be released radeon 7900 gre is 550$. the 4070 super comes with 12 gb of vram while the amd one is 16, which seems to be the minimum with newer games. their performance is basically the same with the 7900 sometimes surpassing the 4070s but the nvidia will have an advantage in ray tracing. depending on your budget and whether you care about ray tracing or not i'd suggest to have the amd one in consideration too. personally i'd wait and see where the prices will settle for a bit and not rush to replace.
VRAM has been the main issue with the 3080, and RT performance in some games like Elden Ring and Cyberpunk is sub-par even with DLSS mods/frame-gen. I'll likely wait for what a 5090 tier class has to offer. I usually only upgrade once I see a flat 2x performance increase from upgrading.
I'm in the same boat and honestly there's no correct answer. What's your resolution? As pointed out: Is there any game that you're really into and your trusty old 3080 cannot handle? Let the games that you want to play & your needs decide for you. You'll know when is the right time to upgrade. For me, it's not. I'll stick with mine until there's a heavy hitter I cannot play properly or the release of the 5080. Whatever comes first :)
I think that it would be reasonable to make that transition especially considering the fact that more games are going to be built around modern graphical techniques such as ray tracing and path tracing.
Thanks to upscaling, im still on the 2060Super playing at 1440p on my 4ktv at 60fps. My experience has been more than decent even playing games such as Alan wake 2
Love my 3080ti. I have a 49" Samsung and game at 5120x1440 and am mostly happy with the performance I get. I wouldn't mind moving to a 4080 super, but it's not worth it yet. I'll wait until we get something on the 5000 series cards.
I have a 3rd hand 3060ti that is slowly moving to its death (crashes and screen artifacting, even after repasting), so I’m looking at moving up the stack to a 4070 super or 4080. If my card wasn’t dieing I would wait for the 50 series.
This is what I am thinking nowadays, a used 3080 or 3080ti or a new 4070 super given the power draw and cost of electricity for my new PC at 4k as I am building a one with r7 7800x3d and moving from q8200 and gtx 745 4gb.
I haven't upgraded from my 3080 because I'm still playing games at 4K 60+ frames on high settings. I'll wait until next gen because path-tracing and all those technologies are ''new'', they'll improve and we'll need another gen of cards to run it.
Lol the only difference I know aside from frame gen which is glitchy and the ray/path tracing is the chopped down specs for better power efficiency for the 4070 super, but if the 3080 works you can make some sacrifices in the settings and you wont have to upgrade. That's silly if you have to upgrade just for bells and whistles
I upgraded to the 4070 ti super that was definitely worthwhile for my use case (wanting to run everything with max RT at 1440p). There are also other bottlenecks where even in rasterization I'm seeing huge boosts in demanding games like Forza Horizon 5 (I see nearly double the minimum FPS when moving through foliage than I would with the 3080). With that said, the 3080 is still an overall powerful card that the vast majority of people would be more than happy with.
My 3080 just died 2 days ago after needing to take it out to get to the SATA port to switch to another for my HDD A lot of people are forgetting programs use tensor and RT it's not just about games these features upgrade with every new gen it's no logical reason to not upgrade if a person is using programs that use those features or upscaling as I do
Skyrim VR with too many texture mods will crash my 3080 10 Gb as it runs out of memory.. That was the first time I felt it might be time to upgrade. Still, I will hold on to my 3080 until 5080. The PC VR market is so stagnant anyway so might aswell wait. The 3080 is still very competent in the majority of games at my ultrawide 3440x1440.
So I upgraded my 3080 paired with 5900x to 4070 super with 7800x3d due to damage mobo which then affected my gpu and I saw a massive fps boost so I’m happy. But if I hadn’t damaged my pc then I would have waited til maybe 50 series since I think 3080 is still decent gpu.
I only have 2x 8pin 12v cables for only 1000w PSU option for propritetry fit DELL 8950. Same for their current 8960. Advised not to use splitters to piggyback 40series cards for their 12pin 12v only adapter! So i can only go upto 3090TI and 4070. That's all.
I'm still more then happy with my 3070. I don't get ppl wanting to always have the latest mentality. When I got my 3070 for example I upgraded from a gtx 1080 and I remember at the time my gtx 1080 could still run games but when I saw the lift on performance and how I would get a 2080ti type of performance out of a 3070 it was a no brainer to upgrade for me but upgrading now to a 4070 doesn't makes much sense for me. In short I will prob look to upgrade when the 50xx cards are out and see if it's actually worth doing since as of right now my 3070 still runs games at 1440p perfectly fine and for every1 who are on the same boat with a 3070/80 I say wait for the 50xx to come around since nvidia already locked down features from one gen to the other... imagine buying a 40xx card NOW and in a couple of months down the line nvidia announces the RTX 5080 with DLSS4, path tracing 2.0, and a bunch of new tech that can't be available on the previous gen because nvidia.
I have a friend who just scored a rig from his friend that has a 3070, 5900X and 32gb of ram for $800 and I told him that's still an absolute steal, even by today's gaming standards. He'll be set for at least a few years before needing to upgrade. I have a10gb 3080, myself, and I'll be waiting until the 5000 series or maybe even the 5000 series mid gen refresh
I have a 3080 Ti laptop. Almost everything I have on Steam plays pretty smooth with the exception of RE 4 Remake stutters when turning the camera. Someone mentioned my CPU may be throttling and maybe that's why. I wanted to upgrade to the 4000 generation for 3D creation but I decided to wait until 5000 series. Maybe get a desktop instead.
Being its a Laptop they can run into heat issues and they are prone to throttle more. Also Laptop / Mobile Gpu's are always slower than the Desktop Versions. A 3080 Ti Mobile GPU is about the same as a Desktop Version Rtx 2080 Super in relative performance.
I think anyone with a 30 series card (excluding the 3050) should wait until the 50 series gets unveiled. Frame gen is the only exciting new tech you get from 40 series but most 30 series cards will play all current games over 60 fps on high settings. I hope 50 series will actually be a large leap forwards.
I decided 5 years ago that I will upgrade from my 1080ti when I am playing games consistently in medium settings... Currently I am still playing most games in high and only the few most demanding games down to medium.
I'm in the same boat. For me, I told myself the only way I'd upgrade from my 3080 right now is if I can now get a now discontinued used 4080 non-super for $800 or less. Otherwise, I'm waiting. I could possibly justify the $1,000 price of the 4080 Super if it had at least 20GB of VRAM. Since it doesn't, I can't justify it.
Just bought a second hand 3080 to upgrade from a 2070 Super for 350€! It should be enough for 4K@120 at reasonable settings for the time being - specially when considering frame generation (FSR3, in this case). Given the current state of the market, it is quite hard to justify spending 700€ on a GPU.
It is. I was super lucky when EVGA was still around to jump up from a recently bought 2070 super to a 3080 through them. I’m waiting until the 6XXX series
I just built my first pc back in 2020 and still have a 2060 in my right right now. Is a 4070 super enough to handle 5120x1440 ultrawide at a solid 60fps at medium settings?
Black Myth Wukong is going to be a huge title but that is just one game. The framegen mod is now the important ingredient for the 3000 series and below.
I wouldn't go from a 3080 to a 4070 super but i did buy a 4080 super day one at msrp (gaming oc). Performance is double at 4K RT so it's worth it to me as DF got me into the whole world of 4K gaming with Xbox one X and an OLED hdmi 2.1 screen and then i went full bore into PC gaming. It's an expensive upgrade obviously but playing Avatar at 4K ultra at 120 fps is quite something. I did have to also upgrade the CPU to 7800x3D and the mobo and ram to DDR5 to achieve this performance though. Not cheap but this is my one luxury hobby.
As an older PC gamer, I find it hard to stay interested new products. I feel In the past you had to have the latest products to run a game to it's full potential and the day you bought it new games pushing it over the limit were just a month away on the horizon. Nowadays it feels like the developers aren't pushing the hardware as hard as they used to, making upgrades not that essential for me. On the one hand it saddens the enthusiast in me who misses the rapid evolution of graphics, on the other hand as a consumer I'm glad especially with the prices these days. As long as you don't upgrade your monitor to a higher resolution or want to get into ray tracing you are pretty good with a 2 generation old mid/high range card.
I don't see much reason to upgrade for less than a 3X improvement, specially that far away from the top tier available card. Unless you can sell it for a decent amount, just lower settings, use that DLSS
i got close to upgrading my 2080Ti to a 4080 super or 4070Ti super especially after seeing path tracing in cyberpunk and alan wake 2. but then the fsr frame gen mod came out and i could run frame gen on my 2080Ti, and i don't see any upcoming game that will need a gpu upgrade. will wait for 50 series from nvidia or 8000 series from AMD (if they improve fsr image quality and ray tracing performance)
I have a 3080 and he should just do the fsr 3 mod. It works amazingly and you can do path tracing and get 80+ FPS. I have no plans to upgrade till 50 series and maybe even the gen after that.
path tracing at native 120 fps and 4k is like 3-4 generations away at least, no use to upgrade before then, no worthwile difference will be noticeable then when you got enough vram.
I was going to upgrade my 16gb rx6800 but I'm waiting until Nvidia's/AMD's next cards to do so, and I think the 3080 owner would be better off doing so as well. The very next set of cards isn't worth it, but I think waiting and doing so maybe every second set you're getting a better jump if that makes sense.
I wouldn't recommend the upgrade/sidegrade, even more now with the FS3 mods coming to the RTX 20/30 series. At least wait for the RDNA4 cards, if the rumors from More Law is Dead and other sources are true, AMD may have a 4080 like card (not in ray tracing yet) for USD 500-600, and that may force NVDIA to drop prices on the 4080 Super.
Best rule of thumb is to always skip one generation and get the one after. Only then will you see the best performance gains over whatever you currently have. If you have a 3080 or 3090, skip the 40xx series and wait for the 50xx series. Personally I have a 3090 and it's still fine, no need to get the 40xx series. Frame Generation is a nice 'to have' but, logically looking forward in to the future towards the next batch of games, say CoD 2025, Battlefield 2025, GTA 6 etc - those games will be supported by the 50xx series which will release in 2025. If you have a 20xx series GPU or older, I'd look for something RTX 30xx based now or within the next few months.
im in this exact same situation. i got a 3080 on release date and love it. Getting a 40 series now just seems wasteful. isnt the 50 series a year away? im not dying for more frames in specific games. and im mostly cpu bound on the games i play (gw2) so im happy to wait for the next big thing
I have a 3080 I think it will be a while before I upgrade. I tend to play older titles anyway and I actually ended up spending the money I could have used on an upgrade on A Legion Go instead, allowing me to take reasonable gaming on the go...
Wow, what type of DISPLAY are most people here running that require the latest GPU tech? I'm sad to say that my BEST display is still limited to 1080p/60fps... So any performance above that will just be wasted until I first drop a few grand on a new 4K/VRR gaming screen!
I'm on a RTX 2060 Super and I'm not even thinking about upgrading at the moment. I'll only get a RTX 5000 series card if this one fails, so RTX 6000 series seems a more likely generation for me to upgrade to.
I also have a 3080. No way would I upgrade until at least the 50 series arrives... or maybe AMD will finally have something competitive (doesn't suck at ray tracing) with their 8000 series this year. Sure a 4090 would be a nice upgrade over my 3080, but not at a $2000 cost.
Trust me is not, the 4070 Super beats RTX 3090TI in games, and the modded FG is crap, full of visual bugs and looks wash out. Trust me i test it on my RTX 3080 before i got the RTX 4080 Super and seen the difference, is huge, night and day.
@@dennythescar80s8 nah, I`ve seen many reviews from reputable outlets like hardware unboxed, gamers nexus, digital foundry or purePC and in all of them 4070 super is basically an 3080 TI equivalent or within like 3% on average, especially since my 3080 ti is an top of the line model that easily does 1965MHz on core and 21 GT on vram. Only advantage of rtx 4000 is frame generation without modding.
@@dennythescar80s8I didn`t test fg yet so hard to say but digital foundry made video about it a month ago and it looked usable but had issues and wasn`t without bugs.
I can't imagine upgrading a RTX 3080 to a RTX 4070-Super being worth it. It's only a 15-percent improvement. Not worth the cost. Wait a few more generations. Throwing hundreds of dollars at video cards every few years is a waste of money. My GTX 1080 lasted for so long until I got my 4070, and to be honest, I could have still used that GTX 1080 for most games as it's only 13-percent weaker than an RTX 2070 Super, which is the same card most developers target to run on the consoles anyway. You really can wait 7+ years to upgrade. There is no good reason to buy a video card every 2-4 years. An upgrade is only worth it if you're literally doubling up in performance. It's really hard for me to imagine that a 3080 isn't getting at least 60 fps in basically everything.
I still have my 2080ti and I'm waiting for the 5000er series I just couldn't justify buying a new card right now when my 2080ti is still performing remarkably well on 4k
Rule of thumb when upgrading gpu, you either upgrade at the same tier skipping a generation, or upgrade within the same gen with at least 50% more improvement, going from 3080 to 4070s is just a waste of money...
I might upgrade from my 3070ti though since 1: 8gb vram is kind of a problem in some games at 1440p, and 2: It stared coil whining recently and its MADDENING, like nonstop tinnitus... and zotac cs wont do anything about it. Thing is, I dunno which Super to get. Def not the 4080 since no way in hell I'm dropping $1000 on a single part.
I’m still rocking a good old evga 3070 ftw3 and I play some newer games but still haven’t ran into any Vram issues being a 8gb card. Enshrouded only uses 4.3 gb of Vram on my setup. Rocking 70 fps ish with Gforce optimizer. Most games I’ve played recently still use und 5gb vram. Palworld doesn’t use a whole lot. Destiny uses hardly any. Granted I’m not playing all the AAA blockbusters on my pc but that what I have a ps5 for as well
The whole “Games use too much VRAM” mantra from the ill informed crowd isn’t holding up. Guess they got screwed buying high VRAM lack luster performance cards and keep using that to justify getting burned 😂
@@christophervanzetta I mean it really depends on what you play and also on resolution. Sure in these games 8gb is fine. But if you tried to play some of the more demanding new games especially at 4k (even upscaled) 8gb will give you problems in a lot of them. So while you can work around it VRAM matters and 8gb is too little in many situations these days.
Wait until upgrading to an affordable card overhauls your gaming experience and makes your whole library feel new again. That's when it's worth the upgrade. Look for a performance delta of a few hundred percent rather than tens.
Pointless, he should wait at least another generation before upgrading.
You would think so. Raster performance maybe. The real issue is the VRAM. Depending on game it might be worth it
@@hbk92701It's absolutely not worth it for the 600 bucks, wtf?
The card is barely faster than the 3080. I don't upgrade until I can get like 2x the performance for similar money.
@@hbk92701 assuming he got the 10GB version, at 2k he would be mostly fine maybe turn few things down, save until next gen and get some more significant upgrade.
That's why they're calling it sidegrading in the video. Not really an upgrade, main reason would be to gain access to native Frame Generation. I have a 3080 but I'm waiting for 50 series or 60 series.
ikr
Don't spend your money on a slight bump when your GPU will work mostly fine, so long as you are willing to turn off or turn down settings or resolution.
However, if you are going to do it, sell your current GPU to cut the bill down.
Or at least jump tiers. 4090 is a significant upgrade over the 3080, the cost of "skipping" a generation earlier
You gotta think as well though, his resale value on his 3080 is higher now than later down the line. After selling that he will only be paying a fraction to upgrade to a modern card so for a lot of people its worth it.
Just tell us you have no idea what you're talking about.

@@MadX8 AMEN
3080?! I upgraded to the 4070 super from a 980Ti! I couldn't imagine why you'd think you have to upgrade every generation. Mind-boggling.
Yeah I'm currently on 2070 and I start to feel like I need an upgrade because 8gb is just not enough for some games, but even then it's such a small amount of games that I could probably wait till 5070 of sorts. If I had 3080 I wouldn't even think about upgrading
I upgraded from gtx 980 to 3080 12gb. Massive perf uplift. Not gonna pay for 4090 and tbh… no game worth it atm anyway.
@@Kondiqq I’m guessing we are around the same age perhaps. Ever play Wing Commander? My first PC was a TRS-80. First ibm compatible was 386sx/16mhz
The DLSS3 to FSR mod basically gives you FG for the 3080, which also works for Cyberpunk and AW2!
Not considering the other options like lossless scaling that has frame gen for any game. I would say it is a very good option especially since they just updated it to better work with ui elements.
@@SethizFTW frame gen in every single game? I know nothing about this, care to elaborate?
it is not that good honestly and doesn't work everywhere.

Yes maybe slower but it will 1/4 of the size and only draws 60w
You have a god damn 3080! Your PC is better than like 85% of Gaming PCs out there currently. And the 85 is generous it's probably in the 90s. You don't upgrade, you enjoy your PC! You still have a few good years of gaming on it.
If I was the guy I would skip a gen before upgrading or 5 years 😅

Sure, let's blow $600 on a card that's 10% faster just for frame generation.
Not even the 4080 Super would be a worthy upgrade from a 3080. Too little of an upgrade for the money spent.
I have a 4060 laptop and 3080ti desktop GPU. My 3080ti gets around 4K90 Ultra everything in Starfield and I recently just booted it up on my new laptop and get around 70 on the same settings.
I know someone who did this upgrade and I'm willing to bet, when they receive it, they're going to tout getting so many frames with dlss3.

I went from 3060ti to 3080 pre owned for 300$ lol dont think 5060 will match that
I would definitely wait another gen so at least the current gen GPU prices drop a bit and this person would also have more options to choose from.

We really need to stop these urges to upgrade to the new thing so often. That's why pricing is where it is right now.

4090 is a beast
It's true tbh, it's the minimum threshold for when I uprade a GPU, it's just too expensive. It's not a big deal because next gen the 5080 will be faster and cheaper than the 4090.
@@mattburg94 This sounds like someone who upgraded after 1 generation and is trying to justify to themselves. I've never upgraded after a single generation. You're right 6070 will be even faster but I can't wait that long and they will be new stuff out then that is harder to run, I run 4k 120hz and care about high framerates and using ray tracing, 6070 isn't doing that on games in 2027.

at the beginning of this month I swaped my trusty 1060 6GB for a 4060Ti 16GB and quickly noticed it is not a GPU fitting my 1440p 165Hz display.
Would be >700$>
I can get a Prebuilt with a 7800X3D, 32GB of DDR5, presumably a B650 Board, and a 4070 Super for around 2K rn.
But as it stands, I am still more than happy with my 3080.

if you already have 3080 why chasing another series? while your graphic card still can do the job?
unless you wanna change your gaming experience like in 4k or something, there is no reason to.
the super comes with an msrp of 600$ and the soon to be released radeon 7900 gre is 550$. the 4070 super comes with 12 gb of vram while the amd one is 16, which seems to be the minimum with newer games. their performance is basically the same with the 7900 sometimes surpassing the 4070s but the nvidia will have an advantage in ray tracing. depending on your budget and whether you care about ray tracing or not i'd suggest to have the amd one in consideration too. personally i'd wait and see where the prices will settle for a bit and not rush to replace.
What if I have a 3070? Should I upgrade?
Probably gonna get a 5090 next year. New build, may as well make it good. Last PC was with a 3770K and two 670s in SLI.
I only upgrade when I can double my gpu power. Last upgrade was from the 3070 ti to a 4090. In this case it feels like 3 times faster
Considering the existence of the DLSSG to FSR3 mod, there really is no reason to upgrade from a 3080 unless you absolutely need the extra power.
No.
I've currently got a rtx 2070, for better 4k gaming should a purchase a pre-owned 3080 or a new 4070?

My 3080 just died 2 days ago after needing to take it out to get to the SATA port to switch to another for my HDD
A lot of people are forgetting programs use tensor and RT it's not just about games these features upgrade with every new gen it's no logical reason to not upgrade if a person is using programs that use those features or upscaling as I do
Skyrim VR with too many texture mods will crash my 3080 10 Gb as it runs out of memory..

Skip a gen at least in gpu upgrades. Id say skip 2 gens if your not into playing the latest games and waits for games to on sale.
I agree with a lot of these comments. I’m holding on to my RTX 3080 through this generation. For 1440p gaming it’s more than enough for my needs.
@@christophervanzetta oh no, I had forgotten that EVGA does not manufacture GPUs anymore :(
I just built my first pc back in 2020 and still have a 2060 in my right right now. Is a 4070 super enough to handle 5120x1440 ultrawide at a solid 60fps at medium settings?
More than enough. As in higher than medium settings.
50 series is close and that side grade for frame gen isn't worth it.
Black Myth Wukong is going to be a huge title but that is just one game. The framegen mod is now the important ingredient for the 3000 series and below.
It seems kind of silly with FSR mod being available. 3080 is a beast but maybe if you want to lower your power draw?
The current cards might be fine until the end of 2024 they are extremely powerful so we'll have to wait and see.
I have a 3080 I think it will be a while before I upgrade. I tend to play older titles anyway and I actually ended up spending the money I could have used on an upgrade on A Legion Go instead, allowing me to take reasonable gaming on the go...
This is exactly what Nvidia tries to achieve. At least skip a generation. Big waste of money.
Apple trying to convince people to buy a new iPhone every single year became comical.
Nvidia and every company out there, they release products faster than you can think about them.
I sold my FE 3080 and bought a Suprim X 4070 Ti. Didn’t need to upgrade, but I just wanted something different. Still have my 3080 though.
don't upgrade if you have 30 series guys. DLSS frame gen can be achieved with the fsr mod.
Not worth it, better holding off for the next gen cards.
I have an RTX 3080. Is it better than the GPU in the PS5 Pro?
If the PS5 Pro does have a modified 7800 XT as the numbers suggest that's basically a draw with the RTX 3080.
@@usul573 I also have a Ryzen 7 5700X3D processor, and 32GBS of RAM AT 3600Mhz. Would you say my rig is better than a PS5 Pro with that setup?
@@monsterhuntervideos4446 Absolutely miles better than ps5 pro
I have 3080 ti and it`s basically 4070 super now that frame generation has been modded in (my card has core OCed to 1965MHz and ram to 21 GTs) .
Trust me is not, the 4070 Super beats RTX 3090TI in games, and the modded FG is crap, full of visual bugs and looks wash out. Trust me i test it on my RTX 3080 before i got the RTX 4080 Super and seen the difference, is huge, night and day.
@dennythescar80s8 This obsession with AMD FG with 30 series people is hilarious. It's soo bad.
I have a 2060. Should I go with a 3070 or a 4070?
4070 but personally i'd hold for 5xxx. it's only 9m now. obey product cycles
Who tf would do such a stupid upgrade?? Wait till like 5070 or 6090
I still have my 2080ti and I'm waiting for the 5000er series
I just couldn't justify buying a new card right now when my 2080ti is still performing remarkably well on 4k
2080 Ti is an underrated card now. 3070 performance with 11gb of Vram is a really formidable combo.
@@theboostedbubba6432 exactly ^^
This card really keeps up :p
Just use the DLSS 3 mods and/or lossless scaling until the 5000 series is released.
I still have a 3080 and its fine - It still rocks todays games if you dont 'need' 4k... If you play @1440p or less a 3080 is still plenty...
Do not
I’m still rocking a good old evga 3070 ftw3 and I play some newer games but still haven’t ran into any Vram issues being a 8gb card.
I have a 3070ti, will wait and see what the 5th gen has to offer
Alan Wake 2 runs more than fine with all the tracing on the 3080 10GB already. No need to upgrade from there unless you really need the extra VRAM.
I've got a 3080-12gb and i'm very happy with it.
Wait until upgrading to an affordable card overhauls your gaming experience and makes your whole library feel new again. That's when it's worth the upgrade. Look for a performance delta of a few hundred percent rather than tens.
