    You are one of few people I know who applies management content into healthcare services! That's awesome! As a service manager it's hard to get healthcare professionals to apply it.

    One of my favorite videos Dr. Martin and thank you for sharing all these resources.This is precisely why I am proud to have a background in public health and health care management. I think many public health programs, medical schools, and other health care related programs should include a course in general management to get the ball rolling as you pointed out. Excellent video.
    Also, it would be wonderful if you can make a video about each strategy ( e.g., stakeholder mapping, change management, risk management, etc) In my opinion, it is not only important to become familiar with these tools, but to also understand what tools are available once a person has a senior role or simply has more responsibilities.

    Fantastic presentation Greg. Question: If a private company starts its budget with their income/revenues figures for the year; what would it be the first input for a health - HIV for instance - program based in your experience?

    • @gregmartin
      @gregmartin  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting question Juan. So a health programme would start with a budget (perhaps a grant from the government or from a funding body like the Gates Foundation) and then have a series of outputs that should translate into some kind of meaningful change in the community. That change might be measured as "lives saved" or "number of people on treatment". To my mind, those would be the equivalent of "revenue" (if that makes sense). Interesting question though. Thanks.

      Hi Claire - I'm happy to help in any way that I can. I understand the dilemma of not being able to get experience (mostly because you don't have experience). My advice at this point is to get involved with as many projects as you can (even if its not in the context of formal employment). Built up a resume of activities that you're been involved with over time.

    Dr. Martin, I like your short lectures and I really learn a lot from them. However, the example you used in this particular video was racist and demeaning to Africa. I know you WHite folks like associating Africa with kind of bad things but using Africa as an example of HIV/AIDS is unacceptable. You could have used one of your states or other diseases if you are implying that you don't have HIV in America. Let's respect ourselves in the process of getting our knowledge out there for people to benefit.

    Hi Dr. Martin, I am half way through my MPH at Usyd. I had Introductory Epidemiology, Introduction to Biostatistics, Introduction to Qualitative Research, Achievements & Challenges in Public Health & Health Promotion and Disease Promotion. I chose alot of biostatistics units for my next semester like Multiple Regression and Stats Computing, Survival Analysis and Categorical data analysis. I also chose a unit in Controlled Trials and Risk and Health Communication. We'd also have core units on introduction to public health ethics and Making decisions in public health which will focus on introductory health policy & economics. There will also be a research project component. My rationale behind choosing biostat electives was mainly because i want to explore public health research & having some practical knowledge might be handy. I would also like to get into organizations like WHO so I chose health communications unit. How useful would you say my choices are & do you think they were wise? Personally, I am interested in an MPhil or PhD or research assistant work. But I also want a backup plan. I would also like to ask you, if I want to pursue another Masters would be a good move to do Masters in Global Health or an MBA or Healthcare Management like you said in the video?
    Thanks so much. I am learning alot from your channel.

      Thanks for the question - I think that you've chosen an interesting and useful combination of subjects (that will stand you in good stead in years to come). It might be worth getting some work experience first and getting a better sense of where your career is going before deciding. Good luck though. You're on a good path. Keep it up!!
