  • If the Fireman's Carry has ever been perfected by any wrestler, that wrestler would be Austin Desanto

    Coach love your videos. Hey you are missing one big thing in your studies of Desanto, his head position. He is a left leg lead with head position on the left shoulder of the opponent. 99.9% of wrestlers will place their head on the right shoulder area of an opponent. Aaron Pico wrestled in a similar fashion. This concept does two important things for a left leg lead; 1. Improves his defense because he only needs to defend one attack, a single leg. It makes other attacks like duck-unders and high-crotch really difficult for an opponent. DeSanto had the best single leg defense in the country if you go back and review film. 2. It allows him to be in better position to finish a fireman's carry because it takes the opponents head position out of the defensive equation, and of course inside control, hand position defense is eliminated also. As Ridge Lovett told me, made him feel awkward, especially with his foot work, having his head pushed to that side because he was not used to it.

      I guess it's swapping head side from the standard over/underhook tie with an opponent - generally the head is on the underhook side as you work that, but this is an interesting distinction. It makes sense since he's aggressively seeking to work the over tie to work this series. Thanks for highlighting it.

    Wow. Very convincing lessons. Isn't it strange and amazing that nobody has taught the value of the Fireman's Carry in the last 30 years? But, in Judo they started using it a few years back and it was so ridiculously effective that it changed the sport. Eventually, they had to change the rules to ban leg grabs using the hands altogether, much like Greco Roman.

    • @rhigel2269

      I used the fireman's carry in judo matches back in the early 70's. However, some judo judges disallowed it back then.

      The fireman's carry is one of the standard techniques of Judo.
      Of course it's been illegal since they banned leg grabs...

    • @rhigel2269
      @rhigel2269 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kanucks9 I never grabbed pants. I used the barrel roll style fireman's carry with my hand between the legs. The Japanese referee disallowed my throw on the top-seated person, because I didn't grasped the jacket tail in the back. When I complaint, this referee required me to get on my knees to apolozed. I lost the bout on a referee decision. In other tournaments the other American referees allowed my throws after I grabbed the jacket hanging down between the legs with my right hand. I am left-handed, so I grapped the opponent's right sleeve with my head tucked tightly into the opponent's right armpit. I struck quickly, to avoid chokes and being throw myself. One tall guy tossed me in my first tournament; and as he landed on me, knock the wind of of me. I learned from that loss to move quicker. Otherwise, these guys will toss your ass down on the match in a heartbeat.

    In HS I saw the fireman's used a TON but wrestling JUCO I would rarely see it used being that at the JUCO level the defensive iq of the opponent is much higher. The fact that Desanto was able to hit it on the best guys @ the D1 level is a testament to the technician he was. That and he actually used it as a part of a series of moves, which made it so effective. A+ Analysis/Breakdown. Subscribed and hit the 🔔

  • @kaffeephilosophy

    Something happened to him, junior or senior year, that made him unable to finish-even if he got to the legs.
    In his B10 match against RBY (2022), he got to his legs, and could’ve finished, but stopped.
    It might’ve been physical or mental problems.
    It sucks, knowing that if DeSanto had remained the beast he was or improved, he could’ve been the one to beat and end RBY’s tear in 2022.

    • @micahjosephson688

      @@micahjosephson688 Probably. But looking back at the 2022 B10 match, it seemed like DeSanto was getting the upper-hand. I would’ve loved to see DeSanto go against RBY in the NCAA final, rather than semifinal. Maybe DeSanto would’ve attained some epiphany then.
