    • @daw162
      @daw162 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      It's like Steveson and Joseph said about Nickal in a conversation - 20% of the pins probably come from guys giving up on wrestling and trying to avoid it. But spencer is also like Nickal - the guys who wrestle head in and hard get pinned, too. And probably put in pain.
      Lee has an advantage - Nickal and Nolf tried to generate pins in a scramble, and had to bait guys in. Lee can get a guy in the tilt and control them and keep tilting and TF a match all from one takedown. The only power guy I can think of close was retherford (who could put a guy in a bow and arrow and turn, then let go, and then turn).
      Retherford is like Lee, too, in that everyone says he feels way too strong for a guy his size. Lee has (seems to me) more potential from his feet in international, but the shame of going away from folks style is these two guys are both hammers on the ground and few will get to see it after they're in college.

    I wish my parents encouraged me while growing up instead of criticizing my existence. I was told by my dad that I was stupid, undesirable and that I wouldn't amount to anything. One of his favorite jokes was that when God was handing out brains I thought He said rain so I said just a little.
    I lived a destructive life. I avoided relationships and I went out of my way to make a lot of people miserable. Looking back, I realize that I could have been incredibly successful. My dad was smart. He was a master mechanic with a photographic memory. He succeeded at whatever he set out to accomplish. My father passed away a couple of years ago and I can honestly say that I do love my dad. I don't understand why he couldn't encourage me and help me become successful in life. He never took responsibility for his actions and regretfully I promised myself that I would never have a family of my own or children because of the way he treated me. I didn't want him to be happy on my account.
    Dear fathers, Love your children. Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he grows older he will not abandon it. Proverbs 22:6

    I spent a morning working with Larry Lee filling and placing sand bags down in Czech Village his first week in town. An awesome guy and I know where Spencer gets his work ethic from. He told me he did not even tell Spencer he was taking the job at Coe College until he decided where he was going to wrestle in college.

    Remarkable wrestler and career!
    As a former Pennsylvania wrestler myself and Penn State fan...my only question for Spenser is WHY Iowa over Penn Sate!????? I mean...if you are choosing between the two schools based on the accomplishments of the head coach...uh...both coaches are phenomenal but I think an Olympic gold medal beats a bronze. But...if you can only choose between two schools (despite being able to go to any school you wanted)...those were definitely your best choices.
    And I don't think any coach could push you to be better...that is already part of who you are.

    I will be interested to see how his career wraps up. Gable, Brands, Sanderson - amazing wrestlers, now amazing coaches. This didn't focus much on his leadership on the Iowa team, other than the comments from Marinelli. I will be watching to see if someone so personally intense can bring other wrestlers to a higher level as a coach, or if he will simply be unable to relate to those who aren't as driven as him - which is pretty much everyone.

    I think when the curtain closes on his NCAA, he will have to be in the discussion of best college wrestler of all-time. I’ve watched Dake and Sanderson. They won when it mattered and could pull out squeakers. But Lee destroys everyone he faces. He tech falls the best in the nation and it just looks unfair when he is on the mat. He is that’s good.

    • @JLWyatt
      @JLWyatt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Here's another layer of context....
      It took the #4 ranked 126 high schooler in the country, a bad knee, and last second takedown to be "upset of the century "
      That's how dominant Lee was/is
